Bridging the Communication Gap
Between Employees and Management
While not an insurmountable barrier, the
division between management and
employee does have clear-cut boundaries.
Lines that won't be crossed unless it's by
email or inter-departmental memos.
The gap exists to:
• maintain the structure of an organization
• keep the workplace functioning at the top
Where critical decisions are made at
management level, all the way down to the
bottom, where the bulk of the labor force
exists.
Establishing meaningful communications in
such an environment can be a bit
intimidating to say the least…
perhaps even overwhelming to the point
where employees make the conscious
decision to keep their heads down and do as
little as possible to be noticed.
This scenario does work, keeping staff
ticking along, but it's a tad impersonal
and faceless.
Some management types could literally
work for years without ever getting to know
the guy in the office at the end of the hall.
As for the working chasm between upper-
management and ground floor employees,
they may never cross paths during the
entire length of their careers.
Depending on perspective, this type of
professional relationship may just be the
NORM
…the way things are in the business world,
even in smaller companies. However, some
executives judge the matter a little differently.
They dearly want to minimize the division
between employee and boss, opening more
informal avenues of communication.
One solution is to assign magnetic
