- A New Era in Midrange Storage (Title slide) Thanks very much, Josh. Very insightful. As you can see, a solid Storage Efficiency project not only invests in multiple technologies, but invests in people and processes, as well. As you can see, the benefits are more than worthwhile. As Josh said, one of the ways Sprint helped manage rapid growth was to take better advantage of Tier 2 and Tier 3 storage. Midrange storage systems can deliver excellent reliability and performance for many applications, at a fraction of Tier 1 storage costs. As Sprint has done, we’re seeing a cross-industry trend of large organizations deploying Tier 2 storage at a faster rate than Tier 1, for the first time. If you support a mid-sized organization, you may not have the option of running the types of storage systems companies like Sprint consider “Tier 1”. Instead, midrange storage systems have to provide all your storage tiers. So, for mid-sized organizations, the question becomes, “Can anyone solve all my storage problems at an affordable total cost?”

Rapid data growth brings with it increased service level requirements and, often, more sophisticated data protection requirements. We need to change the efficiency of our storage infrastructures significantly, or risk falling behind on service level agreements and business continuity objectives.
