because the video shows the lengths that women have to go to in order to fit
in. It is societies take on beauty and how it doesn’t always bring you
happiness.
Lyrics/Meaning Implied The meaning of the lyrics is based around the word “pretty hurts” which
means that there is a big pressure for girls and women to look a certain way.
Genre The genre of this song is soul.
Tempo The tempo of the music video is quite slow, although it has a strong and loud
beat which makes it appear powerful.
Camera Techniques The camera techniques which are used are close ups to show the emotion in
Beyonce’s face as well as the other characters within the music video. There
are also medium shots used to show the theme of the video which is
pageants. There are also tracking shots, quick shots, extreme close ups,
panning shots and birds eye view shots.
Editing The music video doesn’t use much editing techniques although it has been
edited to have it moving from shot to shot quickly.
