Plagiarism Tutorial Summary
Plagiarism is a serious academic offence in schools. Some colleges dismiss
students who plagiarize immediately after getting caught. Intentional or unintentional
plagiarism undermines the integrity and credibility of a student. Avoiding unintentional
plagiarism is not difficult with the right knowledge. The proper citation of sources
prevents plagiarism.
Citing sources is not difficult. Before creating a project, one should document all
sources for future reference. Common knowledge does not need to be cited. One should
inspect their citations to ensure that the citation is in the correct format. Misconceptions
should be clarified with a professor or librarian. There is a distinct difference between
quotes and paraphrases. Understanding the difference between quotes and paraphrases is
important. Citing quotes and paraphrases are just as important. It is very easy to avoid
plagiarism if you: start research early, use quotes and paraphrases, give credit where it is
due, and learn to use different citation styles like MLA or APA.
