2nd Annual Bali Institute
Thought-Leaders Gathering
WHAT'S BALI GOT TO DO WITH IT:
Transformative Education and Cultural
Immersion Learning for the Whole World!
January 2-9, 2011*
8 Days/7 Nights
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia
We believe the future of transformative education includes immersion experiences into
non-western cultures. We also know that the “power of place”** can allow shifts in our
ability to learn – opening new channels of innovation and deepening dialogue that
weren’t previously available. For more than 7 years Bali Institute has witnessed the
enormous creativity, fresh thinking and new actions that have emerged from participants
in our programs in Bali. Now we want to weave together some of the tools of our
offerings -- cultural immersion, dialogue, indigenous wisdom, experiential learning and
place -- to explore new kinds of curriculum opportunities.
2. WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
1. Educators focused on global studies
2. University professors and high school teachers
3. Administrators
4. Workshop facilitators
5. Leadership developers and coaching trainers
6. Academics and others interested in transformative
work
7. Program facilitators focused on becoming a global
citizen
We will be joined by an extraordinary group of Balinese experts – village leaders, royal
family members, visionaries, architects, government, youth activists, academic leaders,
community / health care experts, others - to help explore the development of new
learning capacities.
This program is by invitation only and number of participants will be limited to allow for
more cultural intimacy.
YOUR 5-DAY PROGRAM
Not a typical workshop, we’ve designed this Thought-Leaders Gathering to enhance our
understanding of cultural learning, engage your innovative thinking, and explore our own
cultural immersion experiences to generate action-oriented conversations and outcomes.
Each day will be designed to broaden and deepen our ability to bring collaborative
intelligence into our inquiry on transformative education. The natural world and
indigenous culture of Bali will play as equal a role as the verbal, more linear scope of our
innovative discussions; we will immerse ourselves into new ways of viewing our very
ability to learn. We will explore curriculum design from an indigenous culture point of
view, with a fascinating opportunity to “live into” the design by personally experiencing
these new learning methodologies in real time.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
Our venue for dialogue will be different each day – a magnificent Balinese palace,
a water–garden surrounded by nature, a bamboo-built open space in a remote
mountainous village, and some surprise locations. Evenings will include special
performances, private receptions and dinners hosted at local Balinese compounds. Your
time with us will feel like a lifetime of knowing Bali. Everything about our curriculum is
designed to enhance your senses, stimulate your mind and engage your own creative
juices.
You’ll leave with an abundance of new thinking and new educational ideas. Most
important, you will discover pathways for charting new directions for your own
programs.
