WHAT IS AN OPEN BADGE

• Visual representation – digital image and
integrated meta-data
• It is free and open technical standard –any
user can earn, manage and display these
badges all across the web
• Aims to build shared ecosystem using the
same infrustructre across different platforms

• Whether they’re issued by one organization or
many, badges can build upon each other,
joining together to tell the full story of skills
and other learning achievements.
• Users have an easy way to collect their
badges in a single backpack, and display their
learning achievements on social networking
profiles, job sites, their websites and more.

- Specific quests or tasks person had to complete
- How will you know if the person completed the

BUILD YOUR BADGE SYSTEM

Define your key objectives
• What challenges badge system should solve?
• What should it help to achieve?
• What kind of behaviour should it promote in
learners?

Develop draft Skills Tree

• Start with a Skills Tree
• Define one competence in details: what are the
skills, knowledge, attitudes, which will be
developed throughout the project
• Draw skills tree for that one competence:
• What is the sequence?
• How different skills/ attitudes are interlinked?
• Will you come back to the same skill?
• What about levels?
