4. Fasting is called Saum in Arabic.
The word Saum which means to stop or to avoid.
A fast is to abstain from eating, drinking &
avoiding all kinds of sins.
Saum is an Act of Worship.
It is a time for inner reflection, devotion toAllah
and self-control.

7. It was bestowed on Muslims in 2nd Hijri.
Fasting is Wajib for every Muslim in the month of
Ramadhan.
In this month is the night of Qadar, which is better
than a 1000 months.

8. “The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the
Quran, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the
guidance and the criterion(between right and
wrong)”(Al-Baqarah,verse:185)

O those who believe, the fasts have been enjoined

Fasting is obligatory on every adult Muslim who is
Sane
Healthy
Not travelling.

12. Children’s fast
Fasting is not compulsory on a child till he reaches
the age of puberty(around 12 years of age).
The fasting of a traveller
When a person qualifies as a travelling person, he
has the option of keeping the fast or postponing the
fast and make up for it on his return after Ramadan.

13. A sick person's fast:
If a person becomes too ill during the month of
Ramadan and finds it difficult to keep the fast due
to his illness, he is allowed to miss the fast.
He must make up the missed fasts after the end of
Ramadan.

14. The fast of the elderly
If a person is really old and weak and unable to fast at
any time of the year and there are no prospects of him
getting better then it is permissible for him not to fast
and just pay the ransom.
Holy prophet ﷺsaid that:
“when it is the first night of the month of Ramadan the
evil devils are chained.thegate of fire are locked-not a
single gate is opened,andthe gate of paradise are opend–
not a single gate is locked,anda caller calls out: O seeker
of good come forward and o seeker of evil withhold,and
there are many whom Allah free from fire-and that is every
night”.

15. Hazrat Abu Huraira (ra) reports that the Blessed
Prophet ﷺ said:“All the good deeds of believers are
increased from ten to seven hundred times except for
fasting”.
Allah says; fasting is for Me and I alone will give
reward for it as I wish, since the person has given up
his food and passions for My pleasure.
There are two joys for the fasting person: a joy at
time of breaking the fast and a second joy at the time
of meeting his Lord on the day of Judgement.
Virtues of Fasting
16. Abu Huraira (R.A.)reports that Holy Prophetﷺ
said:
"Whoever misses a single fast of Ramadan without an
excuse or illness will never be able to make up for it
even if he fasted for eternity.”

It is blessed night ,the mighty Quran was sentdown
In the light of Quran:
“verily! We have sent it (the Quran) down in Lailatul
Qadr(the Night of Decree) .and what will make you
know the Night of Decree is? The night of decree is
better than a thousand months”(Al-Qadr,verses:1-3)
LAILAT UL QADR:
18. After Ramadan there is a gift of Eid And before going
for Namaz of Eid we have to pay the Fitrana.
