Narrative Essay For College
Gowing up to spend the past 18 years of my life on the Chicago Westside has been an interesting
journey. I currently live in the Austin community, where there is a population of 98,514 in 2010
and 85.1% is Black, 8.58% is Hispanic, and 4.43% is White. Growing up in an area of complete
violence and poverty felt like a game. Making sure you stay on your side of the block, making
sure you're home before dark, and even making sure you never walk alone. Never. A lot of people
get scared when they hear about a life like this, but it's reality for me, and I honestly feel pretty
comfortable with the people surrounding me. They look like me, talk like me, and even dress
like me. We all watch out for each other. It's a family beyond blood that was built in my
community. I live on a block where it is 95% Black. Besides my family, there is only one other
Hispanic family. I never really left my community or the type of people I surround myself with
either. I honestly didn't feel comfortable leaving and going into a "White" community. But my
comfort level was really tested when I left for the summer to the...show more content...
This program takes place over the course of two summers for a whole month. Although this
amazing opportunity was given to me, for free, I was very hesitant to make the commitment. I
wasn't so confident in myself, especially to be surrounded by the biggest white community in
Illinois, DuPage County. I had very little interest in attending Wheaton College for two summers. I
knew I wouldn't feel comfortable in that community. I wouldn't have my mom's delicious home
cooked meals every night, or to see my little brother and watch him play outside. I wouldn't have
that comfortability of being at home. I wouldn't be surrounded by my friends and family who
constantly look out for me. I was going to be in an unknown territory looking after myself. I was
scared of

My Life As a College Student
Making the Transition
When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one student to dissolve the bonds
which have held him to his high school life, he can get fairly intimidated. Making the transition
from high school to college can be a tough one. I remember my experience in such a transition
vividly, as it was only a short time ago.
Growing up in a family in which both my parents had master's degrees, it was naturally expected
that I would go to college, and for both my own benefit as well as pleasing my parents, I chose to
pursue so–called "higher education". Stepping up to this "higher" plateau is no small matter, however.
You Can Pick Your Friends

(It may be a bit of a stretch here to call myself a man yet.) The hardest part was getting settled into
my new place. Fortunately, my campus has apartments in lieu of dormitories. I went to the lease
office and paid what, at the time, seemed like a fortune, and ran up and down two flights of stairs
for hours in an attempt to move in my belongings. My roommates seemed nice, and one of them had
yet to move in, so the room next to mine remained vacant for a while.
Boxed Noodles and Other Delicacies
The Darwinian theory of survival of the fittest translates well to the college world. While living on
my own, many of my long–dormant, carnivorous instincts kicked in. A trip to the local superstore
meant that my pantry was well stocked, but replenishing it was another matter. I soon found myself
planted firmly in a regimen of boxed noodles, frozen pizza, and TV dinners. While not the healthiest
of diets, they did allow me enough carbohydrates to make it through twelve hours of classes.
CB vs. CBW
After the initial stumbling block more commonly known as residential life, I faced the towering
challenge of settling into classes. Once I had registered (which was itself something of a dilemma),
I had in my hand a sheet of abbreviations that rivaled a military briefing or a computer manual. My
first class, on a Thursday morning, was located in a building called CBW, which stood for
Classroom Building West. Surely the

Personal Narrative: My College Writing Process
Earning a B in my first college writing course was the first time felt like a successful writer. English
in general has always been one of my stronger subjects, but I struggle with writing the most. I tend to
get overwhelmed by the writing process. Seeing my grade was evidence that I could communicate
effectively through writing. I have not only expanded my knowledge for writing from College
Writing, but I also gained confidence as a writer. My process as a writer starts with a blank page on
Microsoft Word. To get creative juices flowing, I free write ideas down as they are generated,
whether they be fragments or sentences. After getting all the ideas out, I form them into more
complete sentences if needed. Next I sort sentences groups based

My community college experience has been rigorous but highly rewarding. As an international
student, it was like stepping from a hill to a mountain looking out at the horizon. The sheer breadth
and depth of the world are mesmerizing. I have entered into a leadership role like Phi Theta Kappa
and Student Government Association (SGA), that has helped me grow as a person.
Advocating for others can often mean teaching them how to advocate for themselves. Only 38% of
the 18–25–year–olds voted in the 2012 Presidential election. We challenged students to let their
voice be heard in the Presidential election last Fall to help solve the broader problem of the low
turnout of young voters. We collaborated with faculty, urging them to teach their classes the history
of voting and explain why voting matters. We reached more than 2000 students and recorded more
than 300 new voters.

Taking this role was a challenging task because I had never led a team before. I knew that this
role would help me to come out of my comfort zone and make me learn more about
communication, motivation, and delegation. When I saw most of our officers being busy this
semester, I had to ask myself what I can do to motivate my officers to act. I took help from PTK
regional officers and PTK live webinar, to join the community to get ideas on how to be creative on
getting a team together. As I was interested in applying to scholarships, We initiated Scholarship
Gathering program, a program where students get together to finish their college and schoflarship
application, so that students who are having difficulty financing the education can apply to

Personal Narrative: My First Semester Of College
Let me start off with a small story because I am not sure where to begin.
Started my first semester of college in January 2006, taking automotive courses. Only completed one
semester because of the economy in Michigan.
Several years later found myself taking classes at an unaccredited bible college. Met my wife at this
college while she was in her second year (She graduated.), –I only completed one year with
intentions of returning after eloping. Two kids later and many random life events, plus living 85
miles from said college has left me feeling incomplete. This was 2008/2009.
My grandfather passed away in 2012 and decided to use some money from a trust to attend Liberty
University Spring 2013. My mother who was in control made lots of promises which I believed, but
I broke off the contract and decided to foot the bill...show more content...
At first the accident did not seem alarming and she was taken to our local hospital. While there they
neglected to scan her, even though she was complaining of severe back pain, headache and knee
pain. They quickly rushed her out of the E.R., but not before I argued with staff to give her some
crutches.
The next day.
My wife went to her spine doctor for a follow up concerning her physical therapy. While there she
explained the accident and how her knee was throbbing. This resulted in her doctor taking an x–ray
and noticed her knee was broken. Not–only–this, but the x–ray of her back showed severe spinal
damage in her lower back. This is when we learned she would need a spinal fusion at age 25.
During all these appointments my grades began to slip. Just couldn't keep up with college, kids, and
my wife's medical needs. This resulted me having to medically drop several classes with means
rather than graduating this semester –it will be May 2017 because my classes got offset and only
certain classes are offered in spring or

Personal Narrative: What I Get To College
Ever since I could remember, science was the subject I enjoyed most in school. When I got into
high school and people started asking, "what do you want to do when you get to college?" I never
had an answer. Up until the beginning of my junior year, I always planned on studying biology and
figuring out what I liked later on. College always scared me because in my group of friends I was the
only one who did not have a plan after high school. I always felt like a deer in the headlights, not
knowing where I am headed, until now.
During my junior year of high school I took the class anatomy and physiology and loved it. I went
to class every day excited and ready to learn. I started to research jobs that dealt with anatomy and
got the idea of physical

Personal Narrative: My College Career
When I began college, I had no direction. I started my college career enrolling as "undecided,"
taking liberal arts courses to fulfill base requirements while considering a number of majors. Writing
has always been a strength, science an interest, and other subject success varied with my personal
interest in the content. I truly believe that my limitations in those early days were functions of my
own interest and self–discipline, and my A or F transcript is good evidence of this.
I declared a chemistry major, and quickly realized that I did not see myself spending my days in
an office calculating the amount of material in vat A to mix with material in vat B, that I needed
something more dynamic that could not be guaranteed with that degree. (I will note that perhaps the
right guidance could have sparked my imagination to stick with the hard sciences, but I did not seek
out a mentor or make myself available for such advice). I was successful in all of my computer
classes, having started programming with BASIC in middle school, but generally floundered, having
no clear goal in mind, no outcome that seemed exciting to me. I stopped attending college, other than
the occasional class here or there....show more content...
I saved enough to buy a new PC and began teaching myself all there was to learn. I quickly
mastered the DOS / Windows operating system relationship, and began to teach myself HTML and
any other data exchange technology that would feed this new fascination. The fuse was lit, and I
was off. Eventually, more and more people started buying computers, struggling with them, and I
saw the opportunity to begin a home business. That business led to a position in IT with the
Virginia's Community College, and my personal belief in learning and success was

Personal Narrative: College
My life has been like a dark maze. I have absolutely no idea what's around the next corner. Each
path I've taken has lead me to one of two things. Something fantastic that I'll enjoy and remember
or something I wished never happened that I can forget. That's why I'm scared to take the next
step because I don't know what will happen to me. However a few years ago I learned to give to give
each step a chance, no matter how far back that step will take me. Being a senior this year a
cartoon word has been shoved in my face a hundred times a week. That word is college. Just
getting into college is a challenge. Thinking about all my test scores, GPA, applications is enough
to give me a migraine. If just getting into a good college is this hard, I

Personal Narrative: My Essay For College
During my searches for colleges to attend following my senior year of high school, WLC had come
as a high recommendation from my older sister, Lauren, a current undergrad student at WLC. At the
time, I was looking to go into Digital Media as my major, though things have now changed. At the
time of my initial visit and admissions process I was quite impressed with the school and found it to
be in my top 3. I've been in the Lutheran church my whole life (WELS while in New York and
LCMS after moving to Wisconsin) as well as attending private Lutheran school from grade school
through high school, so it seemed like a natural continuation. I loved the campus, small class size,
and the general vibe I got from the visit. However, at the time wanting to go into Media, I felt less
enthusiastic about the...show more content...
This led me to attend Olivet Nazarene University this past year, as per influence from my high
school youth leaders. Not majoring in anything related to religious studies, I didn't find myself too
bothered in my disagreements in the belief system taught there. The first fall semester went mostly
well, but it was this current spring semester when my life decided to take a turn. Opening up about
my personal life, I have struggled with issues of anxiety and depression, which on occasion have
affected my academic performance in the past, as I would fail to actively seek out counseling
opportunities. Two and a half months in, I saw myself reach an all–time low in my studies. I was
failing to apply effective studying techniques, and attend class on a regular basis. By my failing
to actively seek to solve personal issues, they had severely affected my academic performance. I
often feel hesitant bringing these problems up, as I fear it can come off as insincere or an excuse.
This forced me to seek new counseling services at the school, and re–evaluate God's plan for my life.
I began to doubt my decision to major in multimedia studies, and whether there was some

Personal Narrative: My Journey Back To College
I have decided to go back to school to finish my degree. The first time I went back to school was
from 1999–2002. I went to Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. I almost completed my
degree before I had to move back to Tennessee. I then joined the Tennessee Army National Guard
and became a full time National Guardsman. My family had told me several times that I need to
complete my degree, but I never gave it much thought and never seemed to have time due to
deployments. Time has flown by and I realize that I don't want to allow the college credits that I
earned to go to waste without a degree. My ultimate goal for using this degree along with almost
twenty years experience in human resources is to start my second career working

Personal Narrative: Going To College
Going to college has been a dream of mine ever since I entered High School. I have worked
rigorously throughout high school with the hopes that my grades would get me into a good college
/university. However, I did not realize that getting into a college was not going to be the only
obstacle, affording it was going to be the biggest.
As I anxiously awaited to hear back from my dream school, St. Lawrence University, I also worried
what would my financial packet would look like. I got into my dream school with a scholarship, but
this scholarship was still not enough to cover for everything.
I am more than eager to commence the next journey of my life in college, but I am also afraid of the
burden it will put on my shoulder. I want to go to college

Personal Narrative: My Life In College
Believe it or not, I began my life in college. My mother moved me to Austin when I was just six
months old. She was only nineteen, studying as a full time student at the University of Texas. She
was also raised in a small town with a strong family. However, conceiving a child at such a young
age in college only added another obstacle of becoming a single mother while being a student. After
years of dedication and hard work, she graduated with a 4.0 GPA in nursing. Shortly after, she
became what she aspired to be; a registered nurse, through the support of her family and drive to
overcome adversity. Watching my mother push through hardships has taught me to set even higher
goals for myself. As I grew older, these family traits and values became

College Entry Essay-Personal Narrative
The sudden roar on the engine starting gives me goose bumps. Putting on my fire suit and
strapping on my helmet gives me a feeling of protection. Yes, I'm getting ready to bring my iron
gladiator to battle. My uncle and I spent a long while working on building the machines of mass
destruction. The welding of two metals together forms a bond so strong it can never be broken.
We spent countless nights just doing this. My uncle throws something across the shop at me and
yells "u getting that thing done?" I would respond with "I thought you were going to build it for
me" nights like these where an everyday thing but grew farther apart as the summer drew to an
end. When I receive the scholarship for a two year collage I will pursue a career in

Example Of Personal Narrative Essay For College
Many parents and peers would say it is a gift that he has–– intense concentration and endurance, but
he likes to call it "strength under control." The truth is, under each attempt to gain control, is a
wavering risk taker who is humbled by each unlikely victory that would always bring him to tears.
That person is me. I like to thinking innovatively and calculate at least seven moves deep into the
most risky and daring variations. At the 2013 National Championships, first table, I was paired
against my close friend and arch–rival Austin Yang, the Taiwan chess champion. Everyone knew
Austin was a machine, he had destroyed his previous opponents and had barely lost any game that
year. To have a winning chance, I had to play the unconventional––the...show more content...
Then in third grade I was introduced to chess, and my mind was forever rewired. I remember the
first time I picked up a wooden chess piece, I was fascinated by its infinite combinations and
variations. Every piece worked harmoniously together. In my first national championship in fifth
grade, I distinctly recall that at one critical match there was a suffocating crowd of attention from
parents, and with a few seconds on my clock, I defeated my opponent. The pistons in my mind
were pumping so quickly that I was unconscious of its exact calculation process. To this day, I still
do not know how I won that match. Chess was never an old man's leisure game, to me it was war.
My coach would say that during each match my eyes became keen and piercing, as if I had turned
into a tamed beast maneuvering sculpted pieces around a checkerboard. My friends noticed these
same formidable features each time I entered the chemistry lab, delivered an electrifying debate
speech, or won an intense election

Personal Narrative: Applying For College Essay
I am passionate about trying my best. Throughout my high school years, I've tried to be as
successful as I can. Whether it's classwork, homework, or tests, I try to prepare myself as much as
possible and persevere, even if it is difficult. I usually take my time to do work and make sure that
whatever I'm submitting accurately portrays my knowledge and persistence. Though I'm concerned
about my success, I am not self–absorbed. I always help others when they're in need, even if it may
seem like a hassle. Helping others motivates me, I cannot let others fail when I know that I'm in a
position to help them. Even when I'm asked to help others in an area that I'm not proficient in, I try
to assist in the best way I can, whether it means applying

How I Was Prepared For College I was born on August 12th in Olympia Fields, Illinois to a family
who already knew my path before I did. This family that I was born into is one that most would
consider a very intelligent family. They were no strangers to getting good grades and multiple
degrees and knew that I would go on to do the same, if not more. Even though I was born to teenage
parents, my dad worked his hardest to finish high school and work to provide for me and my older
sister and it did not stop my mom to go on to obtain her master's degree. When the question is
asked, "Did you feel prepared for college?" The answer is yes. I felt like I was prepared for college
since I am a 4th generation college student...show more content...
My mom never had to really patrol on me or my older sister to do our homework because we
never had a problem taking care of our then responsibilities. The most she would have to do is
check over it and make sure it was right and with time, she wouldn't even have to do that because
we started checking over our own homework. By the fifth grade, my homework was one–hundred
percent only in my hands. By the end of eighth grade, I knew I would have no problem transitioning
into being even more self–sufficient in high school. With newfound independence came newfound
responsibilities, and I was more than ready for it. I rarely ever slacked on my homework and
even developed my own personal study habits. My mom's policy with school was that if you
failed but she saw that you were at least trying your hardest, all would be forgiven. I learned this
in my freshman year of high school when I failed my algebra class. I studied often and tried to
have my sister help me but when I got into class, what the teacher was saying and what I had
learned just didn't add up and I wound up failing the class. My mom wasn't mad at me but instead
helped make me feel better by telling me about when she failed her AP Calculus class when she was
in high school, paid for my summer class, and let me continue to manage my own

Personal Narrative: Coming To College
Coming to college is hard. You have to keep your grades up through 13 years of public education.
You also should obtain a car to get from point A to point B. This also requires having a job to
keep the car fueled and money in your pocket to live off of. Motivation is also a tricky thing to pin
down. It seems to appear when you don't need it, and then just vanish when you need it the most.
And organizational skills, what are those? These are some of the challenges I faced when deciding
to go to college. One of the first things I needed before starting college was a car. If you can't get to
school, not much learning is going to happen. I got lucky my grandparents had an older car they
didn't use. So, this became my trusty steed. But what is a steed without fuel? To keep it gassed and
ready to go, I had to have employment. But with my employment, came the need to balance my
schedule with school. My employer agreed with me that my education was more important, and we
made it work. The challenge then was to stay as motivated in my learning as I was at my job....show

I have never failed any classes, but have never been a good student. Most of this was due to my
lack of motivation when it mattered. If I was interested in the subject, I generally did well in it,
because I was motivated. If I wasn't, I skimmed by in the class. One thing I have realized is that
you can't do that in college. You either get your work done or you don't, it's that simple. Keeping
myself motivated to do assignments is probably the single most challenging thing about coming to
college. But when I get work done, I also have to make sure not to lose

College Narrative Essay

  • 1. Narrative Essay For College Gowing up to spend the past 18 years of my life on the Chicago Westside has been an interesting journey. I currently live in the Austin community, where there is a population of 98,514 in 2010 and 85.1% is Black, 8.58% is Hispanic, and 4.43% is White. Growing up in an area of complete violence and poverty felt like a game. Making sure you stay on your side of the block, making sure you're home before dark, and even making sure you never walk alone. Never. A lot of people get scared when they hear about a life like this, but it's reality for me, and I honestly feel pretty comfortable with the people surrounding me. They look like me, talk like me, and even dress like me. We all watch out for each other. It's a family beyond blood that was built in my community. I live on a block where it is 95% Black. Besides my family, there is only one other Hispanic family. I never really left my community or the type of people I surround myself with either. I honestly didn't feel comfortable leaving and going into a "White" community. But my comfort level was really tested when I left for the summer to the...show more content... This program takes place over the course of two summers for a whole month. Although this amazing opportunity was given to me, for free, I was very hesitant to make the commitment. I wasn't so confident in myself, especially to be surrounded by the biggest white community in Illinois, DuPage County. I had very little interest in attending Wheaton College for two summers. I knew I wouldn't feel comfortable in that community. I wouldn't have my mom's delicious home cooked meals every night, or to see my little brother and watch him play outside. I wouldn't have that comfortability of being at home. I wouldn't be surrounded by my friends and family who constantly look out for me. I was going to be in an unknown territory looking after myself. • 2. My Life As a College Student Making the Transition When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one student to dissolve the bonds which have held him to his high school life, he can get fairly intimidated. Making the transition from high school to college can be a tough one. I remember my experience in such a transition vividly, as it was only a short time ago. Growing up in a family in which both my parents had master's degrees, it was naturally expected that I would go to college, and for both my own benefit as well as pleasing my parents, I chose to pursue so–called "higher education". Stepping up to this "higher" plateau is no small matter, however. You Can Pick Your Friends A typical junior or senior in high...show more content... (It may be a bit of a stretch here to call myself a man yet.) The hardest part was getting settled into my new place. Fortunately, my campus has apartments in lieu of dormitories. I went to the lease office and paid what, at the time, seemed like a fortune, and ran up and down two flights of stairs for hours in an attempt to move in my belongings. My roommates seemed nice, and one of them had yet to move in, so the room next to mine remained vacant for a while. Boxed Noodles and Other Delicacies The Darwinian theory of survival of the fittest translates well to the college world. While living on my own, many of my long–dormant, carnivorous instincts kicked in. A trip to the local superstore meant that my pantry was well stocked, but replenishing it was another matter. I soon found myself planted firmly in a regimen of boxed noodles, frozen pizza, and TV dinners. While not the healthiest of diets, they did allow me enough carbohydrates to make it through twelve hours of classes. CB vs. CBW After the initial stumbling block more commonly known as residential life, I faced the towering challenge of settling into classes. Once I had registered (which was itself something of a dilemma), I had in my hand a sheet of abbreviations that rivaled a military briefing or a computer manual. My first class, on a Thursday morning, was located in a building called CBW, which stood for Classroom Building West. Surely the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Personal Narrative: My College Writing Process Earning a B in my first college writing course was the first time felt like a successful writer. English in general has always been one of my stronger subjects, but I struggle with writing the most. I tend to get overwhelmed by the writing process. Seeing my grade was evidence that I could communicate effectively through writing. I have not only expanded my knowledge for writing from College Writing, but I also gained confidence as a writer. My process as a writer starts with a blank page on Microsoft Word. To get creative juices flowing, I free write ideas down as they are generated, whether they be fragments or sentences. After getting all the ideas out, I form them into more complete sentences if needed. Next I sort sentences groups based Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. My community college experience has been rigorous but highly rewarding. As an international student, it was like stepping from a hill to a mountain looking out at the horizon. The sheer breadth and depth of the world are mesmerizing. I have entered into a leadership role like Phi Theta Kappa and Student Government Association (SGA), that has helped me grow as a person. Advocating for others can often mean teaching them how to advocate for themselves. Only 38% of the 18–25–year–olds voted in the 2012 Presidential election. We challenged students to let their voice be heard in the Presidential election last Fall to help solve the broader problem of the low turnout of young voters. We collaborated with faculty, urging them to teach their classes the history of voting and explain why voting matters. We reached more than 2000 students and recorded more than 300 new voters. I became the...show more content... Taking this role was a challenging task because I had never led a team before. I knew that this role would help me to come out of my comfort zone and make me learn more about communication, motivation, and delegation. When I saw most of our officers being busy this semester, I had to ask myself what I can do to motivate my officers to act. I took help from PTK regional officers and PTK live webinar, to join the community to get ideas on how to be creative on getting a team together. As I was interested in applying to scholarships, We initiated Scholarship Gathering program, a program where students get together to finish their college and schoflarship application, so that students who are having difficulty financing the education can apply to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Personal Narrative: My First Semester Of College Let me start off with a small story because I am not sure where to begin. Started my first semester of college in January 2006, taking automotive courses. Only completed one semester because of the economy in Michigan. Several years later found myself taking classes at an unaccredited bible college. Met my wife at this college while she was in her second year (She graduated.), –I only completed one year with intentions of returning after eloping. Two kids later and many random life events, plus living 85 miles from said college has left me feeling incomplete. This was 2008/2009. My grandfather passed away in 2012 and decided to use some money from a trust to attend Liberty University Spring 2013. My mother who was in control made lots of promises which I believed, but I broke off the contract and decided to foot the bill...show more content... At first the accident did not seem alarming and she was taken to our local hospital. While there they neglected to scan her, even though she was complaining of severe back pain, headache and knee pain. They quickly rushed her out of the E.R., but not before I argued with staff to give her some crutches. The next day. My wife went to her spine doctor for a follow up concerning her physical therapy. While there she explained the accident and how her knee was throbbing. This resulted in her doctor taking an x–ray and noticed her knee was broken. Not–only–this, but the x–ray of her back showed severe spinal damage in her lower back. This is when we learned she would need a spinal fusion at age 25. During all these appointments my grades began to slip. Just couldn't keep up with college, kids, and my wife's medical needs. This resulted me having to medically drop several classes with means rather than graduating this semester –it will be May 2017 because my classes got offset and only certain classes are offered in spring or Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Personal Narrative: What I Get To College Ever since I could remember, science was the subject I enjoyed most in school. When I got into high school and people started asking, "what do you want to do when you get to college?" I never had an answer. Up until the beginning of my junior year, I always planned on studying biology and figuring out what I liked later on. College always scared me because in my group of friends I was the only one who did not have a plan after high school. I always felt like a deer in the headlights, not knowing where I am headed, until now. During my junior year of high school I took the class anatomy and physiology and loved it. I went to class every day excited and ready to learn. I started to research jobs that dealt with anatomy and got the idea of physical Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Personal Narrative: My College Career When I began college, I had no direction. I started my college career enrolling as "undecided," taking liberal arts courses to fulfill base requirements while considering a number of majors. Writing has always been a strength, science an interest, and other subject success varied with my personal interest in the content. I truly believe that my limitations in those early days were functions of my own interest and self–discipline, and my A or F transcript is good evidence of this. I declared a chemistry major, and quickly realized that I did not see myself spending my days in an office calculating the amount of material in vat A to mix with material in vat B, that I needed something more dynamic that could not be guaranteed with that degree. (I will note that perhaps the right guidance could have sparked my imagination to stick with the hard sciences, but I did not seek out a mentor or make myself available for such advice). I was successful in all of my computer classes, having started programming with BASIC in middle school, but generally floundered, having no clear goal in mind, no outcome that seemed exciting to me. I stopped attending college, other than the occasional class here or there....show more content... I saved enough to buy a new PC and began teaching myself all there was to learn. I quickly mastered the DOS / Windows operating system relationship, and began to teach myself HTML and any other data exchange technology that would feed this new fascination. That business led to a position in IT with the Virginia's Community College, and my personal belief in learning and success was Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Personal Narrative: College My life has been like a dark maze. I have absolutely no idea what's around the next corner. Each path I've taken has lead me to one of two things. Something fantastic that I'll enjoy and remember or something I wished never happened that I can forget. That's why I'm scared to take the next step because I don't know what will happen to me. However a few years ago I learned to give to give each step a chance, no matter how far back that step will take me. Being a senior this year a cartoon word has been shoved in my face a hundred times a week. That word is college. Just getting into college is a challenge. Thinking about all my test scores, GPA, applications is enough to give me a migraine. If just getting into a good college is this hard, I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Personal Narrative: My Essay For College During my searches for colleges to attend following my senior year of high school, WLC had come as a high recommendation from my older sister, Lauren, a current undergrad student at WLC. At the time, I was looking to go into Digital Media as my major, though things have now changed. At the time of my initial visit and admissions process I was quite impressed with the school and found it to be in my top 3. I've been in the Lutheran church my whole life (WELS while in New York and LCMS after moving to Wisconsin) as well as attending private Lutheran school from grade school through high school, so it seemed like a natural continuation. I loved the campus, small class size, and the general vibe I got from the visit. However, at the time wanting to go into Media, I felt less enthusiastic about the...show more content... This led me to attend Olivet Nazarene University this past year, as per influence from my high school youth leaders. Not majoring in anything related to religious studies, I didn't find myself too bothered in my disagreements in the belief system taught there. The first fall semester went mostly well, but it was this current spring semester when my life decided to take a turn. Opening up about my personal life, I have struggled with issues of anxiety and depression, which on occasion have affected my academic performance in the past, as I would fail to actively seek out counseling opportunities. Two and a half months in, I saw myself reach an all–time low in my studies. I was failing to apply effective studying techniques, and attend class on a regular basis. By my failing to actively seek to solve personal issues, they had severely affected my academic performance. I often feel hesitant bringing these problems up, as I fear it can come off as insincere or an excuse. This forced me to seek new counseling services at the school, and re–evaluate God's plan for my life. I began to doubt my decision to major in multimedia studies, and whether there was some Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Personal Narrative: My Journey Back To College I have decided to go back to school to finish my degree. The first time I went back to school was from 1999–2002. I went to Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. I almost completed my degree before I had to move back to Tennessee. I then joined the Tennessee Army National Guard and became a full time National Guardsman. My family had told me several times that I need to complete my degree, but I never gave it much thought and never seemed to have time due to deployments. Time has flown by and I realize that I don't want to allow the college credits that I earned to go to waste without a degree. My ultimate goal for using this degree along with almost twenty years experience in human resources is to start my second career working Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I have worked rigorously throughout high school with the hopes that my grades would get me into a good college /university. However, I did not realize that getting into a college was not going to be the only obstacle, affording it was going to be the biggest. As I anxiously awaited to hear back from my dream school, St. Lawrence University, I also worried what would my financial packet would look like. I got into my dream school with a scholarship, but this scholarship was still not enough to cover for everything. I am more than eager to commence the next journey of my life in college, but I am also afraid of the burden it will put on my shoulder. I want to go to college Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Personal Narrative: My Life In College Believe it or not, I began my life in college. My mother moved me to Austin when I was just six months old. She was only nineteen, studying as a full time student at the University of Texas. She was also raised in a small town with a strong family. However, conceiving a child at such a young age in college only added another obstacle of becoming a single mother while being a student. After years of dedication and hard work, she graduated with a 4.0 GPA in nursing. Shortly after, she became what she aspired to be; a registered nurse, through the support of her family and drive to overcome adversity. Watching my mother push through hardships has taught me to set even higher goals for myself. As I grew older, these family traits and values became Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Yes, I'm getting ready to bring my iron gladiator to battle. My uncle and I spent a long while working on building the machines of mass destruction. The welding of two metals together forms a bond so strong it can never be broken. We spent countless nights just doing this. My uncle throws something across the shop at me and yells "u getting that thing done?" • 14. Example Of Personal Narrative Essay For College Many parents and peers would say it is a gift that he has–– intense concentration and endurance, but he likes to call it "strength under control." The truth is, under each attempt to gain control, is a wavering risk taker who is humbled by each unlikely victory that would always bring him to tears. That person is me. I like to thinking innovatively and calculate at least seven moves deep into the most risky and daring variations. At the 2013 National Championships, first table, I was paired against my close friend and arch–rival Austin Yang, the Taiwan chess champion. Everyone knew Austin was a machine, he had destroyed his previous opponents and had barely lost any game that year. To have a winning chance, I had to play the unconventional––the...show more content... Then in third grade I was introduced to chess, and my mind was forever rewired. I remember the first time I picked up a wooden chess piece, I was fascinated by its infinite combinations and variations. Every piece worked harmoniously together. In my first national championship in fifth grade, I distinctly recall that at one critical match there was a suffocating crowd of attention from parents, and with a few seconds on my clock, I defeated my opponent. The pistons in my mind were pumping so quickly that I was unconscious of its exact calculation process. To this day, I still do not know how I won that match. Chess was never an old man's leisure game, to me it was war. My coach would say that during each match my eyes became keen and piercing, as if I had turned into a tamed beast maneuvering sculpted pieces around a checkerboard. My friends noticed these same formidable features each time I entered the chemistry lab, delivered an electrifying debate speech, or won an intense election Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Whether it's classwork, homework, or tests, I try to prepare myself as much as possible and persevere, even if it is difficult. I usually take my time to do work and make sure that whatever I'm submitting accurately portrays my knowledge and persistence. Though I'm concerned about my success, I am not self–absorbed. I always help others when they're in need, even if it may seem like a hassle. Helping others motivates me, I cannot let others fail when I know that I'm in a position to help them. I believe that If I go to college I would have my options to do the things I never could do and have a better life and be well informed about many things. I would also make my parents proud and my entire family including myself because I have high expectations for myself to do good in school, but at times I have problems with my classes and I get confused and I have trouble talking to the teacher for help because i'm nervous or I can't raise my hand for help because I'm shy that got a question wrong. • 17. Line 1 Line 2 Line 3 Line 4 How I Was Prepared For College I was born on August 12th in Olympia Fields, Illinois to a family who already knew my path before I did. This family that I was born into is one that most would consider a very intelligent family. They were no strangers to getting good grades and multiple degrees and knew that I would go on to do the same, if not more. Even though I was born to teenage parents, my dad worked his hardest to finish high school and work to provide for me and my older sister and it did not stop my mom to go on to obtain her master's degree. When the question is asked, "Did you feel prepared for college?" The answer is yes. I felt like I was prepared for college since I am a 4th generation college student...show more content... My mom never had to really patrol on me or my older sister to do our homework because we never had a problem taking care of our then responsibilities. The most she would have to do is check over it and make sure it was right and with time, she wouldn't even have to do that because we started checking over our own homework. By the fifth grade, my homework was one–hundred percent only in my hands. By the end of eighth grade, I knew I would have no problem transitioning into being even more self–sufficient in high school. With newfound independence came newfound responsibilities, and I was more than ready for it. I rarely ever slacked on my homework and even developed my own personal study habits. My mom's policy with school was that if you failed but she saw that you were at least trying your hardest, all would be forgiven. I learned this in my freshman year of high school when I failed my algebra class. I studied often and tried to have my sister help me but when I got into class, what the teacher was saying and what I had learned just didn't add up and I wound up failing the class. My mom wasn't mad at me but instead helped make me feel better by telling me about when she failed her AP Calculus class when she was in high school, paid for my summer class, and let me continue to manage my own Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 20. Personal Narrative: Coming To College Coming to college is hard. You have to keep your grades up through 13 years of public education. You also should obtain a car to get from point A to point B. This also requires having a job to keep the car fueled and money in your pocket to live off of. Motivation is also a tricky thing to pin down. It seems to appear when you don't need it, and then just vanish when you need it the most. And organizational skills, what are those? These are some of the challenges I faced when deciding to go to college. One of the first things I needed before starting college was a car. If you can't get to school, not much learning is going to happen. I got lucky my grandparents had an older car they didn't use. So, this became my trusty steed. But what is a steed without fuel? To keep it gassed and ready to go, I had to have employment. But with my employment, came the need to balance my schedule with school. My employer agreed with me that my education was more important, and we made it work. The challenge then was to stay as motivated in my learning as I was at my job....show more content... If I was interested in the subject, I generally did well in it, because I was motivated. If I wasn't, I skimmed by in the class. One thing I have realized is that you can't do that in college. You either get your work done or you don't, it's that simple. Keeping myself motivated to do assignments is probably the single most challenging thing about coming to college.
