2. Front Cover
• I attracted my target audience of teens/young adult females, by using a
similar aged ‘music artist’ as the cover image. The cover image is likely
to represent my target audience as a whole, and is again likely to be
someone that young females would look up to, or relate to.
• I also used bold and striking headings to appeal to my young target
audience; as I’ve made them modern and youthful-looking, as well as
eye catching, with bright/bold colours.
• My cover lines include young ‘pop’ artists, such as One Direction, who
are likely to appeal to my young target audience, as well as keeping my
magazine within it’s pop genre.
• My cover line ‘1D Unwrapped for Christmas’, gives my magazine another
element of youth, as is what my target audience is likely to have an
interest in. ‘New Year Playlist of 2013’ also gives my magazine a young
vibe, appealing to the age of people likely to be partying at new years
etc., who would be interested in a ‘New Years Playlist’.
• I’ve also added the word ‘Exclusive’, made bold, to emphasise the
exclusiveness to this magazine, which my target audience are likely to
appeal to, as are often interested in knowing/reading something first.
3. Contents Page
• On my contents page, I’ve placed a relatively large photo of another
famous artist, who is very likely to appeal to my target audience. I have
added the caption ‘I would love to be a judge on The X-Factor!’, a music
programme that is very popular among young people, especially females.
• I have added clear sections/headings to organise the content within my
magazine, which is useful for my target audience to easily navigate the
magazine; who are likely to want this for easier navigation.
• I have added an ‘editors note’ at the bottom of the page, which would
appeal to young females, giving a more personal/relatable quality to the
magazine. The signature of ‘Abigail (editor) x’ also adds to the personal
touch of the magazine.
• I have purposely made the contents page relatively neutral in colour, to
again stay away from the very young, immature theme, and lean towards a
more mature colour scheme, as will appeal more to current teenagers.
• I have also included pages (under the headings), which are heavily based
around music, rather than celebrity gossip, as is what I discovered from my
research that my target audience would prefer; as have a genuine interest
in music.
4. Double Page Spread
• Most of my article revolves around music, with questions such as ‘who
would you compare yourself to in the music industry?’. Doing this appeals
to my target audience who would prefer to read about music, rather than
celebrity gossip. I have also expanded on this and included other
questions, also based around her music career.
• The colour scheme of grey, blue/green and light pink appeals to my mainly
female audience, although in a more subtle, mature way. The colour
scheme still appeals to females, although in a less obvious/garish way,
and is likely to appeal to an older female audience.
• The large image on the right page appeals to my target audience (the
same artist as the front cover), is someone who young females would look
up to and aspire to be like. The image itself is also very eye-catching and
would straight away attract the target audience into reading the article.
• Within the article, I also added some ‘deeper’ topics, such as her hard
school life, although did not add too much information about this as a
young target audience would not necessarily want to know the negative
aspects about someone's life. I think I balanced this out well, meaning the
content will still appeal well to my target audience.
5. Conclusion
In conclusion, I feel that my magazine attracted/appealed
to my teenage, female target audience successfully, in a
way deemed to be more mature, rather than typical pop
magazines on the market currently; who rely on using
overly young/immature themes. I feel that the
content/images etc., that I have used throughout my
magazine represent my target audience as a whole, which
will therefore appeal to them, as is easily relatable. The
topics/content that I included was based mainly around
music, which is what I wanted to achieve, by appealing to
an audience who like pop artists such as ‘One Direction’
but do not want to be perceived as immature; I feel I
achieved this successfully.
