Your Family is not obese yet
1. Your Family Is Not
Obese…Yet
Preventative measures for lowering Obesity Rates
ALLISON SCHWARZ, ALICIA WILLIAMS, KATHRYN LUO, TOM KENNEDY
2. Who is our audience?
-Parents and Kids 5-12yrs: we want them to be educated
so that they can prevent obesity in their children and for
kids to actively prevent obesity in themselves and in
future generations
- When children begin entering adolescence, they start
to have some sense of autonomy and need to know info
pertaining to their diet and exercise.
3. (Major factor(s) - causes, consequences,
symptoms, why?)
At Risk Groups:
-Low Socioeconomic status: Food deserts, lack of play space.
-Race: Hispanic and African American are more likely to become Obese than other
ethnicities
Consequences of Obesity:
- Higher mortality rate
- Higher risk of other diseases (heart disease)
- Overall, lower quality of life
4. (Now - what to do differently
today?)
-“Get it up and go” Exercise kids (focusing
on parents)
-Immediate preventative measures-
Parents need to be aware of healthier
diets for their children
5. (Future: Next steps?)
-Implementing policies and educating for future parents to be
(kids too).
-Policies to help lower-income areas have more access to healthier
foods (reduce fast food/convenience stores, increase
supermarkets)
-Educate children in elementary schools about healthy diets
(require a health class?)
