The Department of Labor has gone high tech - there's a new iPhone App that lets employees log their hours worked and calculate the wages they are due. The Agency stated that "this new technology is significant because, instead of relying on their employers' records, workers can now keep their own records. This information could prove invaluable during a Wage and Hour Division investigation when an employer has failed to maintain accurate employment records." There's also a new high-tech enforcement database that contains information from EBSA, MSHA, OFCCP, OSHA and the Wage and Hour Division. The database is searchable by company name, violation, penalty amount, and year. Additionally, all enforcement data is available for download. In this installment of The Proactive Employer, we talk about these two high-tech tools and how they fit in to the Department of Labor's overall enforcement strategy.
