Inequality is not
difference. Saying
that people are
unequal is saying
that some are
disadvantaged
relative to others;
inequality is
disadvantage in a
social context. The
main inequalities in
society are class,
gender, race and
inequalities in income
and wealth.
Discrimination is a
sin.
All Humans are Human and not one is
more important than the other…
Why??? Why???
Discrimination…
“Poverty is hunger. Poverty is lack of
shelter. Poverty is being sick and not
being able to see a doctor. Poverty is
not having access to school and not
knowing how to read. Poverty is not
having a job, is fear for the future,
living one day at a time.
Poverty has many faces,
changing from place to place and
across time, and has been described
in many ways. Most often, poverty
is a situation people want to escape.
So poverty is a call to action -- for
the poor and the wealthy alike -- a
call to change the world so that
many more may have enough to eat,
adequate shelter, access to
education and health, protection
from violence, and a voice in what
happens in their communities.”
“Poverty is the parent of revolution and crime.”
WHAT IS POVERTY LINE?
The poverty threshold, or poverty line, is
the minimum level of income deemed
adequate in a given country. In practice,
like the definition of poverty, the official or
common understanding of the poverty line
is significantly higher in developed
countries than in developing countries.
Determining the poverty line is usually
done by finding the total cost of all the
essential resources that an average human
adult consumes in one year.
POVERTY is easy to spot but hard to
define. Half of the people are below poverty
line. Below Poverty Line is an economic
benchmark and poverty threshold used by
the government of India to indicate
economic disadvantage and to identify
individuals and households in need of
government assistance and aid. It is
determined using various parameters which
vary from state to state and within states.
Going into a survey due for a decade,
India's central government is undecided on
criteria to identify families below poverty
“Hungry for love, He looks at you. Thirsty for kindness, He begs of
you. Naked for loyalty, He hopes in you. Homeless for shelter in
your heart, He asks of you. Will you be that one to Him?”
1. Rapidly Rising Population:
The population during the last 45 years has
increased at the rate of 2.2% per annum. On
average 17 million people are added every year
to its population which raises the demand for
consumption goods considerably.
2. Low Productivity in Agriculture:
The level of productivity in agriculture is
low due to subdivided and fragmented
holdings, lack of capital, use of traditional
methods of cultivation, illiteracy etc. This is
the main cause of poverty in the country.
3. Under Utilized Resources:
The existence of under employment and
disguised unemployment of human
resources and under utilization of resources
has resulted in low production in
agricultural sector. This brought a down fall
in their standard of living.
4. Low Rate of Economic Development:
The rate of economic development in India has been
below the required level. Therefore, there persists a
gap between level of availability and requirements
of goods and services. The net result is poverty.
5. Price Rise:
The continuous and steep price rise has
added to the miseries of poor. It has
benefited a few people in the society and
the persons in lower income group find it
difficult to get their minimum needs.
6. Unemployment:
The continuously expanding army of
unemployed is another cause of poverty. The
job seeker is increasing in number at a higher
rate than the expansion in employment
opportunities.
7. Shortage of Capital and Able
Entrepreneurship:
Capital and able entrepreneurship have
important role in accelerating the growth. But
these are in short supply making it difficult to
increase production significantly.
8. Social Factors:
The social set up is still backward and is not
conducive to faster development. Laws of
inheritance, caste system, traditions and
customs are putting hindrances in the way of
faster development and have aggravate" the
problem of poverty.
9.Political Factors:
The Britishers started lopsided development in
India and reduced Indian economy to a
colonial state. They exploited the natural
resources to suit their interests and weaken the
industrial base of Indian economy.
Graphs Showing Poverty in India…
How Can We Contribute To eradicate Poverty???
Despite being the fourth largest economy in the world, a large percentage of India’s
population lives in absolute poverty, earning a meager $1 a day. People around the
country are involved in multiple occupations, ranging from textiles and agriculture
to handicrafts and information technology. While there is certainly no lack of skilled
labor in India, there is a lack of literacy amongst the nation’s poor resulting from the
financial inability to acquire a proper education. This creates a vicious cycle, where
generation upon generation of underprivileged individuals is unable to obtain the
education they require to become successful in the rapidly expanding India of today.
India’s economic boom is fuelled by a generation of bright, English- speaking
workers and professionals. This combination of skill and English language
proficiency allows them to work remotely for foreign companies in call centers and
customer service departments, and pursue careers ranging from IT domain to
business environments in India as well as abroad. There is a chance for dissolving
poverty in India, but unless the younger generation like us understand the need to
work for our motherland, it will prove difficult to accomplish this task even in
three decades
YES, WE CAN!
People will change themselves if they believe that they can. If they believe
that someone in their position has already achieved great feats. So we should
teach the poor and make them believe in themselves and realize their
strength to make a difference and raise their standard of living.
Give the poor people heroes they can look up to. And they will model after
these heroes and change their lives! As we should tell them rags-to riches
stories. And they will surprise you by rising out of poverty in record time!
WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR?
We, the youth of this country, have enormous power to change this situation.
Initiatives like forming groups and spreading awareness in rural areas, educating
the illiterate in one's own localities, creating charitable programmes for poverty
etc, can be the measures which we can take against poverty. So, what are we
waiting for?
Poverty, like a deadly disease, is constantly spreading its wings in Indian society.
Today, more than 25 per cent of the Indian population lives below the poverty line
and are not able to meet their basic needs - food, clothing and shelter.
EVERYTHING THAT IS REWARD GROWS:
Eradicating poverty from the world is a good goal to have. But Cutting cheques and
providing special favors’ to the poorest people of the society doesn't work in eradicating
poverty at all! In fact, all it'll do is make people find ways in making sure they don't get too
rich - so that they can take advantage of the free welfare cheques and free education!
Because everything that is rewarded grows ... if you reward poverty, how can you expect it
to wither away?
Hunger and malnutrition were the worst manifestations of poverty.
The chronically hungry cannot grow out of poverty.
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for
a lifetime."
-Chinese Proverb
Our job is to teach a man how to fish only when he is willing to learn. And
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for
a lifetime."
Our job is to teach a man how to fish only when he is willing to learn.
EDUCATION IS THE KEY TO DEVELOPMENT
Quality basic education, as well as secondary and higher education, vocational
training, and skill acquisition throughout life are indispensable tools to eradicate
poverty. Education and awareness of citizen's rights are two major gateways for
eradication of poverty. In order to combat the poverty, We, the youth, by spreading
awareness among the weaker
sections about their rights should work for creating more means of livelihood, opt
for handmade things and use less machine-aided services and ensure that
elementary and vocational education is available to all.
LET’S WORK TOGETHER:
Social services must be developed with more social investments by governments
and less military expenditures, if poverty is to be defeated. As students we
should take active participation in NCC and NSS camps and activities. A global
alliance must be forged by the entire international community, with
governments, United Nations, International financial institutions, regional
organizations, civil society and private sector joining hands to make poverty
eradication a central goal of humanity.
T.E.A.M
TOGETHER EVERYONE ACHIEVES MORE
“ We are not rich by what we possess but by what we can do without.”
“Some people think luxury is the opposite of poverty. It is not. It is the opposite of vulgarity.”
“Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty.”
“The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who
have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.”
quotes on poverty…
“The comfort of the rich depends upon an abundant supply of the poor”
“One day our grandchildren will go to museums to see what poverty was
like”
The Indian society is longing for change. Every day we get up to see the same things
around us - the news of increasing crime rate, caste wars over trivial matters and
ignorant politicians. Our reaction to all this is merely contempt, which more or less says
that nothing will change in our country. Instead of waiting for someone else to bring
about a change, we, as younger generations of India, should wake and unite to change
the way everything works. And all this can happen only when Indians change their
mindsets. With this change, India will not only develop economically but also socially,
politically and culturally. So let us come together and awaken ourselves to a new world,
a world where all can walk with their heads held high and say with pride that
We are Indians!
Conclusion…
WHO IS HAPPY?????
THOSE WHO HAVE
EVERYTHING BUT STILL
THEY ARE NOT SATISFIED
OR THOSE WHO HAVE
NOTHING BUT STILL THEY
HAVE A REASON TO
SMILE…..
SO ACTUALLY THEY ARE RICH … NOT RICH FROM MONEY BUT RICH
FROM HEART……
Stop making fun of people cause we never know
when u yourself become the biggest joke all
over…….
Let’s unite and make the dream come
true….

Poverty...

  • 5. is the parent of revolution and crime.  is a weapon of mass destruction
  • 6. Inequality is not difference. Saying that people are unequal is saying that some are disadvantaged relative to others; inequality is disadvantage in a social context. The main inequalities in society are class, gender, race and inequalities in income and wealth. Discrimination is a sin. All Humans are Human and not one is more important than the other… Why??? Why??? Discrimination…
  • 7. “Poverty is hunger. Poverty is lack of shelter. Poverty is being sick and not being able to see a doctor. Poverty is not having access to school and not knowing how to read. Poverty is not having a job, is fear for the future, living one day at a time. Poverty has many faces, changing from place to place and across time, and has been described in many ways. Most often, poverty is a situation people want to escape. So poverty is a call to action -- for the poor and the wealthy alike -- a call to change the world so that many more may have enough to eat, adequate shelter, access to education and health, protection from violence, and a voice in what happens in their communities.” “Poverty is the parent of revolution and crime.”
  • 8. WHAT IS POVERTY LINE? The poverty threshold, or poverty line, is the minimum level of income deemed adequate in a given country. In practice, like the definition of poverty, the official or common understanding of the poverty line is significantly higher in developed countries than in developing countries. Determining the poverty line is usually done by finding the total cost of all the essential resources that an average human adult consumes in one year. POVERTY is easy to spot but hard to define. Half of the people are below poverty line. Below Poverty Line is an economic benchmark and poverty threshold used by the government of India to indicate economic disadvantage and to identify individuals and households in need of government assistance and aid. It is determined using various parameters which vary from state to state and within states. Going into a survey due for a decade, India's central government is undecided on criteria to identify families below poverty
  • 9. “Hungry for love, He looks at you. Thirsty for kindness, He begs of you. Naked for loyalty, He hopes in you. Homeless for shelter in your heart, He asks of you. Will you be that one to Him?”
  • 10. 1. Rapidly Rising Population: The population during the last 45 years has increased at the rate of 2.2% per annum. On average 17 million people are added every year to its population which raises the demand for consumption goods considerably. 2. Low Productivity in Agriculture: The level of productivity in agriculture is low due to subdivided and fragmented holdings, lack of capital, use of traditional methods of cultivation, illiteracy etc. This is the main cause of poverty in the country. 3. Under Utilized Resources: The existence of under employment and disguised unemployment of human resources and under utilization of resources has resulted in low production in agricultural sector. This brought a down fall in their standard of living.
  • 11. 4. Low Rate of Economic Development: The rate of economic development in India has been below the required level. Therefore, there persists a gap between level of availability and requirements of goods and services. The net result is poverty. 5. Price Rise: The continuous and steep price rise has added to the miseries of poor. It has benefited a few people in the society and the persons in lower income group find it difficult to get their minimum needs. 6. Unemployment: The continuously expanding army of unemployed is another cause of poverty. The job seeker is increasing in number at a higher rate than the expansion in employment opportunities.
  • 12. 7. Shortage of Capital and Able Entrepreneurship: Capital and able entrepreneurship have important role in accelerating the growth. But these are in short supply making it difficult to increase production significantly. 8. Social Factors: The social set up is still backward and is not conducive to faster development. Laws of inheritance, caste system, traditions and customs are putting hindrances in the way of faster development and have aggravate" the problem of poverty. 9.Political Factors: The Britishers started lopsided development in India and reduced Indian economy to a colonial state. They exploited the natural resources to suit their interests and weaken the industrial base of Indian economy.

  • 20. How Can We Contribute To eradicate Poverty??? Despite being the fourth largest economy in the world, a large percentage of India’s population lives in absolute poverty, earning a meager $1 a day. People around the country are involved in multiple occupations, ranging from textiles and agriculture to handicrafts and information technology. While there is certainly no lack of skilled labor in India, there is a lack of literacy amongst the nation’s poor resulting from the financial inability to acquire a proper education. This creates a vicious cycle, where generation upon generation of underprivileged individuals is unable to obtain the education they require to become successful in the rapidly expanding India of today.
  • 21. India’s economic boom is fuelled by a generation of bright, English- speaking workers and professionals. This combination of skill and English language proficiency allows them to work remotely for foreign companies in call centers and customer service departments, and pursue careers ranging from IT domain to business environments in India as well as abroad. There is a chance for dissolving poverty in India, but unless the younger generation like us understand the need to work for our motherland, it will prove difficult to accomplish this task even in three decades
  • 22. YES, WE CAN! People will change themselves if they believe that they can. If they believe that someone in their position has already achieved great feats. So we should teach the poor and make them believe in themselves and realize their strength to make a difference and raise their standard of living. Give the poor people heroes they can look up to. And they will model after these heroes and change their lives! As we should tell them rags-to riches stories. And they will surprise you by rising out of poverty in record time!
  • 23. WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR? We, the youth of this country, have enormous power to change this situation. Initiatives like forming groups and spreading awareness in rural areas, educating the illiterate in one's own localities, creating charitable programmes for poverty etc, can be the measures which we can take against poverty. So, what are we waiting for? Poverty, like a deadly disease, is constantly spreading its wings in Indian society. Today, more than 25 per cent of the Indian population lives below the poverty line and are not able to meet their basic needs - food, clothing and shelter.
  • 24. EVERYTHING THAT IS REWARD GROWS: Eradicating poverty from the world is a good goal to have. But Cutting cheques and providing special favors’ to the poorest people of the society doesn't work in eradicating poverty at all! In fact, all it'll do is make people find ways in making sure they don't get too rich - so that they can take advantage of the free welfare cheques and free education! Because everything that is rewarded grows ... if you reward poverty, how can you expect it to wither away? Hunger and malnutrition were the worst manifestations of poverty. The chronically hungry cannot grow out of poverty. "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." -Chinese Proverb Our job is to teach a man how to fish only when he is willing to learn. And “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." Our job is to teach a man how to fish only when he is willing to learn.
  • 25. EDUCATION IS THE KEY TO DEVELOPMENT Quality basic education, as well as secondary and higher education, vocational training, and skill acquisition throughout life are indispensable tools to eradicate poverty. Education and awareness of citizen's rights are two major gateways for eradication of poverty. In order to combat the poverty, We, the youth, by spreading awareness among the weaker sections about their rights should work for creating more means of livelihood, opt for handmade things and use less machine-aided services and ensure that elementary and vocational education is available to all.
  • 26. LET’S WORK TOGETHER: Social services must be developed with more social investments by governments and less military expenditures, if poverty is to be defeated. As students we should take active participation in NCC and NSS camps and activities. A global alliance must be forged by the entire international community, with governments, United Nations, International financial institutions, regional organizations, civil society and private sector joining hands to make poverty eradication a central goal of humanity. T.E.A.M TOGETHER EVERYONE ACHIEVES MORE
  • 27. “ We are not rich by what we possess but by what we can do without.” “Some people think luxury is the opposite of poverty. It is not. It is the opposite of vulgarity.” “Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty.” “The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.” quotes on poverty… “The comfort of the rich depends upon an abundant supply of the poor” “One day our grandchildren will go to museums to see what poverty was like”
  • 28. The Indian society is longing for change. Every day we get up to see the same things around us - the news of increasing crime rate, caste wars over trivial matters and ignorant politicians. Our reaction to all this is merely contempt, which more or less says that nothing will change in our country. Instead of waiting for someone else to bring about a change, we, as younger generations of India, should wake and unite to change the way everything works. And all this can happen only when Indians change their mindsets. With this change, India will not only develop economically but also socially, politically and culturally. So let us come together and awaken ourselves to a new world, a world where all can walk with their heads held high and say with pride that We are Indians! Conclusion…
  • 30. THOSE WHO HAVE EVERYTHING BUT STILL THEY ARE NOT SATISFIED OR THOSE WHO HAVE NOTHING BUT STILL THEY HAVE A REASON TO SMILE….. SO ACTUALLY THEY ARE RICH … NOT RICH FROM MONEY BUT RICH FROM HEART……
  • 31. Stop making fun of people cause we never know when u yourself become the biggest joke all over…….
  • 32. Let’s unite and make the dream come true….
