And the answer is …
Answer:
‘Raffu’-chakkar
Q1
He (X) _____ ______ was born to a Jewish family in Mandatory Palestine at the advent
of WW2 owing to which his family migrated to the US the next year. His family’s
poverty meant his fascination for a particular type of books had to be sated by him
rummaging through the neighbourhood’s bins to find some to read.
At 15 he stole Gene Byrnes “Complete Guide to ________” from a public library &
learnt it by heart. His obvious talent in this field coupled with his juvenile delinquent
activities got him transferred to Manhatten’s School of Industrial Art. He graduated
with the award for best student in the field he would become famous for. A decade of
failures followed including stealing a project in Canada & nearly getting arrested at the
US Border.
His luck changed from the end-60s with a Coke commercial, shorts for Encyclopedia
Britannica, then taking over an iconic TV series & finally his seminal work (Y) _____
___ ___ – the first of it’s kind & also the most successful of it’s kind till date (for which
he did multiple work roles) – featuring one of the most famous promo taglines of all
time. However critics never warmed to him & referred to his work as “Dirty ______”
using the most famous name in his field. The only proper award he would win for a
piece of work would be for The Lord of the Rings some years later. He then passed up
the chance to adapt Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, referring Ridley Scott for it.
ID the person (X) as well as his most famous creation (Y). (Half pts on the bounce)
And the answer is …
A1:
X: Ralph Bakshi
Y: Fritz the Cat (1st full length adult animation film)
"90 minutes of violence, excitement, and SEX ... he's X-rated
and animated!“
He was referred to as “Dirty Disney” by critics
Q2
In the 2008 summer transfer window, AC Milan signed Andriy Shevchenko, Ronaldinho and Mathieu
Flamini. But the preferred squad numbers for all three players were already occupied. This led the 3
of them to take up a unique set of new shirt numbers.
Give me the 3 nos (in order) & the logic behind the numbers. (half points for ALL 3 nos & half for the
logic – ONLY on the Bounce)
And the answer is …

Q3
Le Moniteur’s edition of 18 Dec 1789 published an analysis of Petition of the Citizens Living in Paris
authored by X, which outlined an ideal Constitution/rules governing the lives of citizens of the city in
a democracy, as well as of a follow up speech in the Parliament by (X) - during the course of which
he had made a sensational statement that had become the joke of the town. A particular phrase in
the statement “a _________ __ __ ___” (something used by an English playwright before him)
would become a cliché to be used the world over for centuries to come. Ironic then that the person
would become synonymous with the ‘thing’ that for him was only a means to arrive at a ‘opposite’
end outcome.
ID X & give me the phrase (Y). (half points – ONLY on the Bounce)
And the answer is …
A3:
X - Joseph Guillotin

Q4
He (X) joined the US Airborne’s 101st Division at 19 yrs at Fort Campbell & trained as a paratrooper
to avoid a jail term after being convicted for riding in a stolen car twice. Often skipping training to
pursue his passion, on one such occasion a fellow serviceman (Y) happened upon him and sat down
& accompanied him. Their partnership would prove successful when they tried their dual act on
weekends at military. X feigned an ankle break during a paratrooping jump to try to get out of
service, the army ultimately agreed when he slept in during training too often.
A year later Y also managed a discharge after long persuasion by X & they started something called
the King Kasuals. X would however constantly change partners through-out his short-lived career as
he became more famous & was well known for being able to do his ‘thing’ with different parts of his
body.
ID X.
And the answer is …
A4:
Jimi Hendrix

(X) ________ was a Greek mythological figure, most famous for his
eternal punishment in Tartarus. He was made to stand in a pool of
water beneath a fruit tree with low branches, with the fruit ever
eluding his grasp, and the water always receding before he could take
a drink. He was the father of _____ (Y), and was a son of Zeus. He
served another child of his (Z) to the gods as a meal by cutting &
boiling him amongst many other villianous acts.
Y had 14 children, all but 1 of whom were slayed in front of Y causing
legends to be made of Y giving up food & later turning into a weeping
rock (image on the right).
They are both separately immortalised by the naming of different
things after each (like the lake in the image after X – in the same
country as Y), however there is one place that both have been
immortalised together & are the only parent & child to have this
honour amongst many others in that list. Give me how they are thus
immortalised together.
And the answer is …
A8:
X: Tantalus Y: Niobe

Q12
The Bunker family consisting of 2 brothers, their wives Adelaide & Sarah Anne &
their 22 or 23 children (historians are divided on the issue of issues or perhaps they
just lost count!) lived on & ran a slave plantation near Wilkesboro, North Carolina.
After a few years Adelaide & Sarah became jealous of each other which necessitated
a changed & peculiar living arrangement in the nearby town of White Plains. Some of
their children served in the Confederate Army in the Civil war which led to both
personal losses & financial ruin. The brothers decided to return to their occupation
prior to running the plantation (whose success had led to them being able to buy the
plantation) but this time only met with moderate success – partly due to the fact
that their act’s novelty had gone down in the intervening years.
This led to the elder brother’s drinking problems ergo declining health & ultimate
death with his brother’s demise soon after inspite of him keeping good health.
Their biography was written by Darren Strauss & is being adapted into a Hollywood
biopic by Gary Oltman who has written the screenplay himself. Their descendants
now number ~1500, a few hundred of whom have a reunion annually on the old
family lands since 1989.
Who am I talking about (both names required)?
And the answer is …
A12:
Chang & Eng – the original Siamese twins
Q13
2017 has been a year of setting records on stock markets across the world. Berkshire Hathaway became
the first stock anywhere in the world to have it’s share price cross $250,000.
Closer home there is one particular share (X) which became the first to cross Rs. 50,000/- in 2016 &
recently crossed Rs. 60,000/-. This when no other share has ever crossed Rs. 30,000/- & only two others
(Y & Z) have crossed Rs. 20000/-. All three companies work in related categories.
This has been possible as X has never in it’s 30 years+ history on Indian bourses had either a stock split or
issued bonus shares – also a rarity. They believe that such pricing helps ensure only quality investors get
into their stock. They were also the first brand from their category to start advertising on TV soon after
DD went colour & have subsequently never been outside the top 2 in market share in their category. Well
known events & celebrities have constantly been associated with them. Ironically the company was
created to be in a different business altogether.

everyone to call me General ______. I was always up to mischief at St Joseph’s, Bangalore even telling my
Maths teacher that there was a simpler way to solve problems & showing it in front of the class due to which
the teacher used to hate me…
IIT was my first choice but I secured a poor rank so I went to BITS Pilani. There I did what I wanted – dating
girls, spending time outdoors… the Caltech scholarship made me jittery, I landed in LA with $250 & was terribly
homesick… Stanford taught me a lot & got me a job at Apple but I wanted to break free & do something on my

started fooling around with this new language I’d learnt, on the Internet & that’s how (Y) _______ came into
being… We were turned down by 19 venture capitalists before Draper Fisher Jurvetson came up with $3,00,000

have met Aishwarya Rai only once in my life — at a beauty pageant. When the rumours of us being together

Give me either the name of the Institution (X) OR what (very
specifically) it did/was it’s purpose.
And the answer is …
A35:
The Institution was The Repository of Germinal
Choice for which he was in the first set of people to
win the Ig Nobel.
It took/stored sperm donations from Nobel winners
& Olympics medallists (& later other prodigies) & at
times transplanted them into women who were
Mensa members married to infertile men (218 such
kids).
Since most Nobel winners used to be 55 years+, he
widened the criteria to include Olympians/others.
William Shockley of course won the Nobel for
Physics in 1956
Q36: Video
The family depicted in this song in the film _______ (X) is a parody of a real world family (Y) & the idea is
based on something else (Z) which was seen by the public a year or so before this movie.
ID X AND give me EITHER Y (with specific people depicted here) OR Z
And the answer is …
A36:
X: Humjoli
Y: 3 generations of the Kapoor family (Prithviraj, Raj, Randhir)
Z: the movie Kal Aaj aur Kal – depicting reel life meeting real life of the original ‘K’ family
Q37: Video
This is the trailer of Postcards From The Edge, a movie partially based on the semi-autobiographical best selling
book of the same name. Give me the real life people on whom the characters played by Streep (X – also the
writer of the book) & Shirley Maclaine (Y) are supposedly based.
And the answer is …
A37:
X: Carrie Fisher
Y: Debbie Reynolds
Q38
(X)______ ________ has been in use for a few decades for a
variety of things, such as in the running of certain computer units,
in medicine to remove unwanted skin, warts and pre-cancerous
cells and in cryogenics. Some of it’s uses are surprising considering
that it’s poisonous if ingested in anything greater than minute
quantities by humans & dangerous as the person wouldn’t
immediately realise they have ingested it due to the “Leidenfrost
effect” - which happens when a fluid, in near contact with a mass
significantly hotter than it's boiling point, produces an insulating
vapour layer. Due to this it’s usual storage is in vacuum containers.
It’s most famous use this century has been for the item (Y) shown
in the image on the right by (Z). This has opened up it’s (somewhat
controversial) use in a field where it’s now very much in the public
eye. Z is known as a master of this art now with numerous
followers in this cult form.
ID Y & Z (half points on the bounce).
And the answer is …
A38:
X: Liquid Nitrogen
Y: Egg & Bacon Ice-cream
Z: Heston Blumenthal
Tie Break Q
We all know where it appears.
Just give me the given ‘name’ (not the company/ brand/ model/ make etc) of THIS (& only this) car.
And the answer is …
Tie Break Answer:
Austin Powers’ Shaguar
Thank You!
Hope you enjoyed it!

  • 3. Warm up Q… Is to as Is to ???
  • 4. And the answer is …
  • 6. Q1 He (X) _____ ______ was born to a Jewish family in Mandatory Palestine at the advent of WW2 owing to which his family migrated to the US the next year. His family’s poverty meant his fascination for a particular type of books had to be sated by him rummaging through the neighbourhood’s bins to find some to read. At 15 he stole Gene Byrnes “Complete Guide to ________” from a public library & learnt it by heart. His obvious talent in this field coupled with his juvenile delinquent activities got him transferred to Manhatten’s School of Industrial Art. He graduated with the award for best student in the field he would become famous for. A decade of failures followed including stealing a project in Canada & nearly getting arrested at the US Border. His luck changed from the end-60s with a Coke commercial, shorts for Encyclopedia Britannica, then taking over an iconic TV series & finally his seminal work (Y) _____ ___ ___ – the first of it’s kind & also the most successful of it’s kind till date (for which he did multiple work roles) – featuring one of the most famous promo taglines of all time. However critics never warmed to him & referred to his work as “Dirty ______” using the most famous name in his field. The only proper award he would win for a piece of work would be for The Lord of the Rings some years later. He then passed up the chance to adapt Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, referring Ridley Scott for it. ID the person (X) as well as his most famous creation (Y). (Half pts on the bounce)
  • 7. And the answer is …
  • 8. A1: X: Ralph Bakshi Y: Fritz the Cat (1st full length adult animation film) "90 minutes of violence, excitement, and SEX ... he's X-rated and animated!“ He was referred to as “Dirty Disney” by critics
  • 9. Q2 In the 2008 summer transfer window, AC Milan signed Andriy Shevchenko, Ronaldinho and Mathieu Flamini. But the preferred squad numbers for all three players were already occupied. This led the 3 of them to take up a unique set of new shirt numbers. Give me the 3 nos (in order) & the logic behind the numbers. (half points for ALL 3 nos & half for the logic – ONLY on the Bounce)
  • 10. And the answer is …
  • 11. A2: Nos: 76, 80 & 84 Reason: their resp year’s of birth
  • 12. Q3 Le Moniteur’s edition of 18 Dec 1789 published an analysis of Petition of the Citizens Living in Paris authored by X, which outlined an ideal Constitution/rules governing the lives of citizens of the city in a democracy, as well as of a follow up speech in the Parliament by (X) - during the course of which he had made a sensational statement that had become the joke of the town. A particular phrase in the statement “a _________ __ __ ___” (something used by an English playwright before him) would become a cliché to be used the world over for centuries to come. Ironic then that the person would become synonymous with the ‘thing’ that for him was only a means to arrive at a ‘opposite’ end outcome. ID X & give me the phrase (Y). (half points – ONLY on the Bounce)
  • 13. And the answer is …
  • 14. A3: X - Joseph Guillotin Y – a twinkling of an eye ("Now, with my machine, I cut off your head in the twinkling of an eye, and you never feel it!")
  • 15. Q4 He (X) joined the US Airborne’s 101st Division at 19 yrs at Fort Campbell & trained as a paratrooper to avoid a jail term after being convicted for riding in a stolen car twice. Often skipping training to pursue his passion, on one such occasion a fellow serviceman (Y) happened upon him and sat down & accompanied him. Their partnership would prove successful when they tried their dual act on weekends at military. X feigned an ankle break during a paratrooping jump to try to get out of service, the army ultimately agreed when he slept in during training too often. A year later Y also managed a discharge after long persuasion by X & they started something called the King Kasuals. X would however constantly change partners through-out his short-lived career as he became more famous & was well known for being able to do his ‘thing’ with different parts of his body. ID X.
  • 16. And the answer is …
  • 18. Q5 This scene holds a record that is unlikely to be broken. ID the two protagonists (X & Y) as well as their most famous creation together (Z). (NO half points even on Bounce)

  • 22. And the answer is …
  • 23. A6: Buster Crabbe – played Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon & Tarzan on screen
  • 24. Q7 • ID the Brand (specific)
  • 25. And the answer is …
  • 27. Q8 (X) ________ was a Greek mythological figure, most famous for his eternal punishment in Tartarus. He was made to stand in a pool of water beneath a fruit tree with low branches, with the fruit ever eluding his grasp, and the water always receding before he could take a drink. He was the father of _____ (Y), and was a son of Zeus. He served another child of his (Z) to the gods as a meal by cutting & boiling him amongst many other villianous acts. Y had 14 children, all but 1 of whom were slayed in front of Y causing legends to be made of Y giving up food & later turning into a weeping rock (image on the right). They are both separately immortalised by the naming of different things after each (like the lake in the image after X – in the same country as Y), however there is one place that both have been immortalised together & are the only parent & child to have this honour amongst many others in that list. Give me how they are thus immortalised together.
  • 28. And the answer is …
  • 29. A8: X: Tantalus Y: Niobe They are only father & child to both have elements in the periodic table named after them (Tantalum & Niobium)
  • 30. Q9 Connect these four movie scenes. Connect is exhaustive AFAIK. (a proper noun necessary in the answer):
  • 31. And the answer is …

  • 33. Q10 The incidents (Y) captured in the accompanying image were recorded as the ___X___ (blank length deliberately not indicative). This is the first official use of the ‘term’ X which became renowned many years later when it was reused for another event (Z). Give me Y & Z (part points on the bounce).
  • 34. And the answer is …
  • 35. A10: X: D-Day Y: Battle of St Mihiel (shown in image) Z: Normandy landings
  • 36. Q11 Connect the following (specific connect – 2 seperate proper nouns necessary)
  • 37. And the answer is …
  • 38. A11: Movies based on Edna Ferber novels which had won the Pulitzer prize for fiction
  • 39. Q12 The Bunker family consisting of 2 brothers, their wives Adelaide & Sarah Anne & their 22 or 23 children (historians are divided on the issue of issues or perhaps they just lost count!) lived on & ran a slave plantation near Wilkesboro, North Carolina. After a few years Adelaide & Sarah became jealous of each other which necessitated a changed & peculiar living arrangement in the nearby town of White Plains. Some of their children served in the Confederate Army in the Civil war which led to both personal losses & financial ruin. The brothers decided to return to their occupation prior to running the plantation (whose success had led to them being able to buy the plantation) but this time only met with moderate success – partly due to the fact that their act’s novelty had gone down in the intervening years. This led to the elder brother’s drinking problems ergo declining health & ultimate death with his brother’s demise soon after inspite of him keeping good health. Their biography was written by Darren Strauss & is being adapted into a Hollywood biopic by Gary Oltman who has written the screenplay himself. Their descendants now number ~1500, a few hundred of whom have a reunion annually on the old family lands since 1989. Who am I talking about (both names required)?
  • 40. And the answer is …
  • 41. A12: Chang & Eng – the original Siamese twins
  • 42. Q13 2017 has been a year of setting records on stock markets across the world. Berkshire Hathaway became the first stock anywhere in the world to have it’s share price cross $250,000. Closer home there is one particular share (X) which became the first to cross Rs. 50,000/- in 2016 & recently crossed Rs. 60,000/-. This when no other share has ever crossed Rs. 30,000/- & only two others (Y & Z) have crossed Rs. 20000/-. All three companies work in related categories. This has been possible as X has never in it’s 30 years+ history on Indian bourses had either a stock split or issued bonus shares – also a rarity. They believe that such pricing helps ensure only quality investors get into their stock. They were also the first brand from their category to start advertising on TV soon after DD went colour & have subsequently never been outside the top 2 in market share in their category. Well known events & celebrities have constantly been associated with them. Ironically the company was created to be in a different business altogether. ID X, Y & Z. (part points on bounce. Pounce – for X & either Y or Z. Bounce for any 2/3 BUT points only when specific alphabet is given)

An English clergyman looking for a new direction in life after losing most of his family to bubonic plague quite early & the remainder gone during/just after his student years at Emmanuel College in Cambridge, added £780 from his own estate at the time of his death for completion of the complex & also donated his personal collection of 329 titles (~400 books) to serve as the library on the estate. Give me either the person or the complex being spoken of.

Q38 (X)______ ________ has been in use for a few decades for a variety of things, such as in the running of certain computer units, in medicine to remove unwanted skin, warts and pre-cancerous cells and in cryogenics. Some of it’s uses are surprising considering that it’s poisonous if ingested in anything greater than minute quantities by humans & dangerous as the person wouldn’t immediately realise they have ingested it due to the “Leidenfrost effect” - which happens when a fluid, in near contact with a mass significantly hotter than it's boiling point, produces an insulating vapour layer. Due to this it’s usual storage is in vacuum containers. It’s most famous use this century has been for the item (Y) shown in the image on the right by (Z).
