Service2Media’s Mobile TV solution is a one-stop-shop for media related
functionality on the mobile phone.
The end-to-end solution makes use of modules within the M2Active plat-
form and provides the following key features:

The design and development of the front-end can be fully adapted to the needs
of your organization. Service2Media’s M2Active platform ensures the best ex-
perience of your content by the end user based on the interface on the device.
Depending on the needs of your organization, the solution can be set up as
mobile application for Java devices (Nokia, Sony Ericsson etc), Blackberry, An-
droid (G1), iPhone, Symbian, Windows mobile, or as a mobile internet site.
Full service solution
Next to the user-friendly interface, the Mobile TV solution comprises a com-
plete back-end architecture.
Below you will find the schematic architecture of Service2Media’s cutting edge
back-end solution:
The orange blocks are delivered and/or implemented by Service2Media. The
gray blocks represent the points where third parties are delivering the content
or where input is expected from third parties. Optionally other M2Active
modules of the platform can be added, features such as the provision of news
or pay-for-view content.

4. EPG delivery
The program information is supplied by third parties through a XML feed.
Merge process
During the merge process, the streams are matched with the corresponding
entry in the EPG feed.
The entries with a stream may be placed in the CMS for any further treatment.
Content Management
Via the CMS external editors will be able to update or add to the standard
description of the EPG, additional photos can be added and bookmarks can be
defined in a stream (eg based on time and / or subject).
M2Active modules
The award winning Service2Media M2Active platform
ensures the correct interpretation and mash-up of streaming
and (enhanced) EPG feeds.
Streaming Module
Through implementation of the streaming module it is possible for all devices
with a streaming capable player within the client application to:
• Offer the best stream depending on the available bandwidth and type of
device
• Allow forward and back-flushing in the episode for the best user
experience
• Pause a stream and continue again at the last point
• Start and stop an episode
For streaming of both live and VOD
content Service2Media uses its own
streaming channels. These are optimized
for streaming to the mobile.
Service2Media uses of state-of-the-art
techniques, such as Darwin, Apple Xserve
Server and QuickTime. Optionally we can
offer to link with third parties. For this we
will suggest an integration project.
5. EPG module
The EPG module will allow presenting the EPG data in an attractive,
user-friendly way to the end user. Through a clear scheduling or list view,
the user can browse the programs or search for a specific program. From
the EPG module the user will be able to directly:
• Obtain more information about the program
• View photos of the program
• Watch a preview of the program
• Obtain a live stream of the program start
• Start the program via an on-demand streaming
• Receive one (SMS) notification when the initial SMS message is sent
• Get access to the mobile site of the program
• View the qualification for inclusion through IP TV.
Delivery & provisioning
This module takes care of distributing the EPG and mobile TV application.
The user can request the application by sending a SMS to a short code,
by filling in their mobile number on the website or, by downloading the
application via the mobile site.
In the first two cases, an SMS is sent to the user can be implemented by
Service2Media or third party). The application can be downloaded using
this SMS. In the third case the download will start directly.
In the download stage, Service2Media detects the brand and type of
phone and serves the customer with the best user interface: application
or mobile site.
