Group Project Topic: The social psychology of group interactions Focus can be on either: Impression management in social interactions or  Small group processes and structure
Scenarios There have been reports that the marketing team are not working well as a group.  You have been requested to write a report for the management team that will appraise them of the situation.  VicHealth have requested that your organisation write a report that explains adolescent impression management behaviour in secondary schools. There have been reports of staff dysfunction at one of your companies regional offices.  You have been requested to observe the behaviour of this group and report it to management.
Theoretical Statement Discussion of the key theoretical ideas that guide the project.  Drawn from material covered in this subject.  You can choose from lectures and readings dealing with EITHER Impression Management OR Small Groups.  These ideas should then be used to structure the Discussion of Findings section.  (750 words)
Related Literature Review of other people’s research dealing with your chosen topic  A minimum of 6 empirical research (not theoretical) articles should be included in the literature review.  Your summaries should include the research questions and findings of the studies you have chosen.  (700 words)

Discussion of the findings This section presents your analysis of the interactions in the group you have nominated for study in the programs you have chosen.  The discussion should be presented thematically: that is, issue by issue, not program by program. The headings should correspond to the key ideas in your theory section. include VERYbriefexamples/evidence from the program to illustrate the points you feel are important.  include a Conclusion that summarises the findings and links them to the main findings identified in the literature review section of the report. (2400 words)

Criteria for Assessment Group Project Report Clarity of exposition and relevance of key theoretical ideas Clarity of exposition and relevance of previous research findings Rigour of discussion: Systematic structure that links to theory Appropriate use of examples from programs     Conclusion:  Links between findings and literature review  Clarity, succinctness and fluency of expression Appropriate citation of sources
Individual contribution to Project Leadership  direction, organisation and management of group What sorts of things did you do? Ideas/ suggestions.  e.g. What role did you play in suggesting what material should be included? Collection of information and data analysis What contribution did you make to finding theoretical and/or empirical material, analysis of the interviews etc? Writing and editing report  Indicate whether you had primary responsibility for any particular section of the report. Cooperation  including attendance, punctuality at working sessions.

Group Project

  • 1. Group Project Topic: The social psychology of group interactions Focus can be on either: Impression management in social interactions or Small group processes and structure
  • 2. Scenarios There have been reports that the marketing team are not working well as a group. You have been requested to write a report for the management team that will appraise them of the situation. VicHealth have requested that your organisation write a report that explains adolescent impression management behaviour in secondary schools. There have been reports of staff dysfunction at one of your companies regional offices. You have been requested to observe the behaviour of this group and report it to management.
  • 3. Theoretical Statement Discussion of the key theoretical ideas that guide the project. Drawn from material covered in this subject. You can choose from lectures and readings dealing with EITHER Impression Management OR Small Groups. These ideas should then be used to structure the Discussion of Findings section. (750 words)
  • 4. Related Literature Review of other people’s research dealing with your chosen topic A minimum of 6 empirical research (not theoretical) articles should be included in the literature review. Your summaries should include the research questions and findings of the studies you have chosen. (700 words)

  • 8. Discussion of the findings This section presents your analysis of the interactions in the group you have nominated for study in the programs you have chosen. The discussion should be presented thematically: that is, issue by issue, not program by program. The headings should correspond to the key ideas in your theory section. include VERYbriefexamples/evidence from the program to illustrate the points you feel are important. include a Conclusion that summarises the findings and links them to the main findings identified in the literature review section of the report. (2400 words)
