2. What are the LINDAU Nobel Laureate Meetings?
Since 1951, “Lindau” (under patronage of the Bernadotte family) has hosted regular
annual Laureate meetings in the Nobel Prize Sciences, as well as Interdisciplinary
meetings, and in Economics.
Since 2000 a strategy of internationalisation has reshaped the seminars so that now
typically each meeting consists of 50-70 Laureates, 500-700 young scientists from
over 80 countries, over 100 accredited journalists and media; and over 50
Directors of Research Programmes or other VIPS in an unprecedented week of
interactivity and exchange of ideas.
As a spin off, each meeting produces a wealth of material, both by the Laureates as well
as the young scientists, who compete to be selected on an excellence basis and
represent the best in their field, institute, programme or country.
LINDAU is a registered foundation - charity, not for profit, and receives and manages donations and income
from the meetings, each of which cost a 7 figure amount to stage. It has >200 Academic partners in all
continents, including many national Central Banks (for Economics)
It is not a recipient of any H-2020 funding.

3. Lindau – Mission EDUCATION
Mission Education
To promote wide recognition for science and research and to foster support for a
knowledge-based society is the overall Mission Education of the Lindau Nobel
Laureate Meetings – and it applies especially to the area of science education.
In this spirit, educative contents of the mediatheque are being gradually developed for use
in schools anywhere.
Moreover, teachers are supported in their work and involved in the dialogue with
scientists, via workshops and content provision with guidelines etc.
This Mission objective is the reason Lindau are a part of the SCIENTIX network

4. The Mediatheque
With unique content dating back to 1952,
the mediatheque maps a rich history
of scientific dialogue.
The mediatheque is being developed
further to provide a learning platform and
research resource for scientists and those
fascinated by science, teachers and students.
>500 lectures held by Nobel Laureates are already
in the mediatheque: It contains more than 600
videos or slide shows, many already subtitled,
annotated, abstracted and transcripted. Almost
all (esp. more recent) are in English.

5. The Research Profiles
Research Profile of Niels Bohr
-biographical profiles of all Nobel
Laureates who have thus far participated
in the Lindau Meetings
-explanatory information on the scientific
accomplishments of the laureates
- relating their research to the historical
as well as to the contemporary scientific
context

6. Topic Clusters - By clustering and contextualising content by editors;
compile comprehensible introductions to major scientific fields and
topics, like cancer, proteins, or subatomic particles.

7. Mini Lectures

Following a contemporary didactic approach, the mediatheque is
complemented with short animated videos outlining key issues of science and
research in an educative and entertaining fashion.

touch screens in exhibitions.

LINDAU has embarked on a strategy to collaborate with non-profit providers of
digital educational content, mainly public providers of didactic material for
teachers, with the aim to impart and disseminate scientific and career
information by and about Nobel Laureates, as role models and visionaries
capable of challenging the status quo….
Lindau is looking for loose co-operation with (networks of) content providers that
can use/build with this resource to enhance mutual Mission Education objectives
