Other coatings suffer from fractures of top coat occur when substrate and
coating expand and contract at different rates. As coatings age, they become
harder and less flexible; across the coating spectrum, thin films tend to crack
less than thick films. Fractures expose substrates to weathering, moisture,
organism growth, dirt, etc. Fracture types include peeling, flaking and
