2. Arena
• Currently I am trying to position myself
to become a TV or Radio sports talk
show host.
• My goal is to eventually work for a
major company like ESPN or Fox
Sports.
• I hope to obtain employment for either
of these companies in a big market like
New York, Florida, Texas, or California.
3. Identity
• I am someone who grew up loving sports and admiring
those who spoke about the game in a honest and enjoyable
way.
• My fear of sharing my opinion is non existent.
• I have an enormous amount of patience and I enjoy hearing
other views and opinions on topics I debate with others.
• The respect I have for sports can not be matched. The way I
conduct myself in sports venues and around professional
athletes is second to none and something I pride myself in.
• I believe I am unique because I will put in the extra work
needed in order to provide my audience with factual
information.
• The level of transparency I show leaves little room for
questions on who I am and the content I provide.
4. Skills
• Active Listening
• Reading Comprehension
• Speaking
• Monitoring
• Coordination
• Critical Thinking
• Time Management
• Judgement & Decision Making
• Complex Problem Solving
• Active Learning
At the very least, I can provide these required
skills to my future employers. It is beyond
these skills that I believe I separate myself from
others. Personally and professionally I can
contribute to many areas of their businesses
while acquiring a large following.
As a person who has held a various number of
different jobs since a young age, I am able to
relate to different types of people and relate
back to my prior situations in order to provide
the best for them.
I am also relentless in the pursuit of becoming
the best possible version of myself. I will never
relinquish the desire to work on my craft
professionally and hold myself to a very high
and credible standard.
5. Profession
Currently I am a Manager at my family’s restaurant. Although it has nothing
to do with the career path I am pursing, it is a wonderful job for me to have
while I finish school. I currently have supervisory responsibilities of day to
day operations that include food prep, orders, and other tasks that are
required from open to close. I handle daily customer satisfaction issues and
monitor staff in daily customer relations to ensure success of the business.
There are a few things that separate me from other managers in my
opinion. For one, I am very personable. I know how to speak to people in a
personal way and business way to make sure that I get my point across
without offending anyone. My approach is the same everyday. I have a
tremendous of care for not only the business but also the employees that
help make the business so successful.
At first, the business was new to me and I wasn’t aware of much. I took it
upon myself to learn every aspect of it and to provide as much information
I learned to as many employees I could so they could successfully do their
jobs. We are all human and we all make mistakes so I try to provide an
atmosphere where people aren’t afraid to make a mistake. All I ask is that
they learn from those mistakes and not to repeat them, making them into a
bad habit.
6. Credentials
To be completely honest, especially with myself, I
don’t believe I am that credible right now. I do
believe that I have the willingness and drive to reach
that level as I advance through Full Sail and get into
my profession.
By the time I graduate, I feel as though I will be 100%
ready to take on anything asked of me by my
employers.
Throughout my life, I have shown both professionally
and personally, to be a very trustworthy person. I
intend on being that way with my future employers
as well.
By letting my work speak for itself, I also intend to
have friends, family, employers, and co-workers write
recommendations and letters of encourage on my
behalf so that I may provide my future employers and
audience with credible content about my character.
7. Promise
• I promise to be transparent. I feel as a Sportscaster it is very important
to be real with your audience and not let what you hear or think to
determine how you speak on a topic or what you have to say about. If
you are transparent with your audience it will allow them to listen to
what you have to say and respect it.
• Whether it’s going to schools and clubs to speak to younger children or
maybe partnering up with an athlete or celebrity to work a fundraiser, I
promise to be active in the communities that surround me.
• I promise to be a team player and be there for my co-workers whenever
they need me.
• I promise to always provide my audience with authentic and accurate
information. I will always report things with respectfulness towards
athletes, owners, companies, and significant parties involved.
I believe that there are many problems I will be able to solve by remaining
true and honest with myself. I have extreme confidence in myself to make a
positive impact wherever I end up. Problems exist everywhere in today’s
world. I think by coming into a company with a positive attitude and great
work ethic, I can influence those around me to do the same.
8. Positioning
Why should someone hire or
work with me rather than my
competition
How do I want my audience
to think of me
How am I different than my
competition
• Passion
• Ability to work in a ”team
environment”
• Relentlessness to improve
everyday
• Respect for the game/sport
• The care I show for those
around me
• Positive mindset no matter
of the situation at hand
• Transparent
• Authentic
• Respectful
• Joyful
• Helpful
• Informative
• My ability to put my best
foot forward everyday
• The amount of required
skill and knowledge I
already possess
• My love for all sports
9. Audience
• Most employers that will need to know of me
would be those that have radio and/or tv
shows dedicated to sports.
• My customers/clients will absolutely need to
be involved in sports. I can possibly attract
some that are just interested in either tv
shows, radio shows, or podcasts.
• In my situation, employers, customers, and
clients all hold extremely important opinions.
• Most of them will be involved in sports
leagues and possibly even sports discussion
daily. Word of mouth travels fast and a
positive opinion about me and/or my content
could go a long way.
10. Networking & Marketing
In order to gain the attention of my future employer, customers, or clients, I intend to be
extremely active on Social Media. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and even LinkedIn can be
extremely beneficial for the career I have chosen to pursue.
There are a number of ways that I can create a strong relationship with my audience. I truly
believe that the two most important things I need to do is show transparency and respect. By
listening to and respecting what my audience has to say, it will make them feel comfortable
speaking about and debating numerous sports topics. While delivering content and reporting
sports stories, the transparency shown will leave my audience with little to question about who I
am and what I am saying.
My content overall will be the biggest attention grabber. I like to think I’m a funny person. I
always enjoy making others laugh. So while delivering factual sports content, I intend on
including some content that will make my audience laugh and feel a certain level of
comfortability with me.
I would love to attend as many industry events as possible because showing my face and
showing that I care is a wonderful way to show how serious you about your profession and what
you do for it!
11. Competitors
In the Sportscasting world, I will not only be competition with others
for having the same degree as mine, but I could also be up against
those with degrees in Journalism and Communications. Also,
Sportscasting has become a popular job for athletes after they are
done playing their respective sport. I’m sure that we all have a lot of
comparisons but there is not doubt that being able to attend Full Sail
will be extremely beneficial for all of us. As for as the athletes,
although maybe some of us didn’t play professionally, I’m sure we all
share a great love for the sports we cover.
(I was not given names on LinkedIn because of limited visibility out of my network)
• Competitor 1: Out of the San Antonio, Texas area who will be
graduating from Full Sail University with his B.S. in Sportscasting
• Competitor 2: Out of the Amarillo, Texas area who will be
graduating from Full Sail University with his B.S. in Sportscasting
• Competitor 3: Out of the Nashville, Tennessee area who will be
graduating with his second degree, this one will be his B.S. in
Sportscasting from Full Sail University
12. Professional Development
To be completely honest, there are a lot of things I can
improve on. I believe that most of things will be taken
care of while I am a student at Full Sail.
I have been in love with sports my entire life.
Everything about it. But the business side of things is
where I will need to improve tremendously.
I believe time and experience are the only things that
can help me improve. Experience in the business and
time on the microphone can give me the most honest
layout of what I need to do in order to reach the
career goals I set out for myself.
Along the way, I hope to build relationships with
respected tv and radio talk show hosts. Regardless of
what they speak of, I hope to be able to learn from
them and understand the amount of work and
dedication it takes to reach your fans and become
successful.
Whether it’s learning new things or simply sharping up
what I already know, I intend to spend an unlimited
amount of time throughout my career to help improve
what I do on a daily basis.
13. Goals
• By January 1, 2020 I hope to have 500-1,000 followers on my Twitter
