This document discusses the benefits of making artworks from the collection of the Statens Museum for Kunst (SMK) freely available online under Creative Commons licenses. It notes that SMK has released images of 159 artworks under CC BY, allowing Wikipedia to write better articles about the artists, artworks, and motifs depicted. Making these images available online increases access to Denmark's cultural heritage. The document encourages people to make use of and engage with the museum's collection.
4. ”…hvad betyder det, at der er millioner
af billeder på nettet som vi overhovedet
ikke må røre ved, når der samtidig er
andre millioner af billeder som vi
faktisk gerne må bruge?”
Peter Leth, Creative Commons for alle, Lær IT 2011
43. "When SMK releases images of 159
artworks under CC BY, it means that we in
Wikipedia are able to write better articles
about both the artists, the artworks, and
the motifs.”

”One example: In 1646, Jan van Goyen painted a prospect of the city
of Arnhem. This image is not only fit to illustrate the article about van Goyen,
but also the one about Arnhem, 1646, tonal landscape painting, and
tulipomania - not just in Danish, but in all the languages that Wikipedia is
available in.”
