Who Peter Parker is a high school student and lives at home with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben. He has lived with them since a
very young age as his Mum and Dad were killed trying to publish important research on human cross genetics that his dad
had been studying.
What Peter Parkers dad is an important scientist at Oscorp, he has been researching cross species genetics hoping to help human evolve
and become stronger. The film starts with peter playing hide and seek with his dad around their family home. Peter cant find his dad
and walks into his study room in hopes of finding him, he then shouts for his dad who hurries to his study and finds peter stood in
the middle of a destroyed room with broken windows making you think that an intruder has been in the study. Peters dad grabs all
his research and flees the house with his wife and peter, they then drop peter off at his Aunt May’s and Uncle Ben’s house to stay
there while they leave the country.
Why Peter’s Dad’s research would have been at vale to a lot of people and also valuable to the medical industry if they could develop
successful medicine using the research. This means that people could have been trying to steal his research to try make a profit for
themselves by selling it which is why I think that it appeared someone had broken into peter’s Dad’s study.
When The starting sequence of the movie where peter is left with his Aunt and Uncle is set in the year 2000. However the rest of the film is
set in the year 2013.
Where The Amazing Spider Man is set in New York City, USA.
How Peter is bitten by a spider whilst on a tour around Oscorp (led by Gwen Stacy) which then caused the DNA of the spider to mix with
the human DNA of Peter, this caused peter to develop the proportional strength of a spider and other abilities. This is an example of
cross species genetics which is what Peter’s dad, Richard had been researching and practicing prior to his death. Peter was the first
successful example of cross species genetics.

happening in your story at each point.

The image used on the front cover of the magazine I think is really effective as
it shows the duality of the Joker’s Character perfectly. It shows joker as 2
different people, Arthur Fleck, his normal self and The Joker, his nihilistic alter
ego as a result of constant abuse as a child. The colours used on the magazine
also represent the Jokers character well as it uses a dark background to bring
attention to the character and the text and it makes use of green which
symbolizes the Joker as generally that is the Jokers colour. The image used of
the actor as the center piece of the magazine is making direct eye contact with
the audience whilst the Joker is looking away from the audience maybe
symbolizing that the Arthur Fleck is more stable minded than his alter ego. The
move title ‘Joker’ is in its own bold font and is one of the largest words on the
magazine to ensure its one of the first things the audience reads to know
exactly what the issue is about. The only other text besides the titles and
empire branding is only really just warning of spoilers for the movies in the
magazine issue and naming the other 2 movies/shows in the issue; Spider-
Man and Stranger Things. I’d say that the image to text ratio is almost even,
maybe the images are slightly more dominant than the text but not by much.

The title ‘The DC Extended
Universe’ is the largest text on the
page and is also in bold, this is to
make the title of the page stand
out so that the reader knows what
the spread is about. The double
page spread is also set put very
nicely; the chapter titles are in red
bold righting above the summary
of the chapter making it very easy
to follow for the reader. I would say
overall there is quite a bit more
text than images on the two pages.
I think that the separation of
the superman show from the
main DC Extended Universe
summary by utilizing
background colours is really
smart as it makes it easy for the
reader separate the two
different summaries. This layout
of the double page spread as a
whole is nice as well as the text
starts in the top left corner with
the title then falls down from
the left to the bottom then
along to the right, this works
well as we have been taught to
read from the left to the right
so this layout automatically
feels normal for the reader and
makes the summary easier to
follow and read.
The fonts used are very simple but I think this is probably
intentional as its convenient for the reader as they're easy fonts
to read. The two main titles are in slightly different fonts to
separate them from the summaries.
I think that the colours work really nicely on this double page
spread as the main article is black text on a white background
with red titles so that its easy to read for the audience. And the
extra background info on a superman show is black text on a
yellow background to separate the two.
The image sed is a pretty recognisable figure If you have seen the
movie before and you can instantly recognize what film saga this
issue covers and the specific film which is probably why the title is
so small and tucked away in the corner of the page. However, if
you have not seen the movie this front cover wouldn’t help you
to identify the movie easily, you wouldn’t be able to recognize the
character on the front cover and the title is so small it may be
missed. The head on angle on the character is nice as it shows the
character looking directly at the audience, grabbing your
attention. The colours aren’t too vibrant but I think that’s the
general style the magazine brand goes with. I do think if it had
slightly more vibrant reds it would make the magazine stand out a
lot more.

The colour scheme on this double page spread is really nice and,
in my opinion, I think its one of the nicest colour schemes I've
seen. The black and white is really subtle and works well for
shadow and light in the image but also text on the other page and
the light red is really nice to add some pop and highlight certain
parts of the double page spread.
I like the fonts used in the tile are really nice as they're unique
and makes this issue stand out from others but they're also easy
to read and not too complex. The text used for the informational
text covering most of the right page is also really simple and
therefor easy for the audience to read.
I like how this double page
spread is set out with the image
from the movie pained/drawn
on the left page covering that
page completely but then
having all the information on
the left page under the title and
surrounding a smaller image. I
think it makes the double page
spread more enticing to read
because of the images, it makes
there seem like there is a lot
less text on the page. Because
there's an image on one page
and text on the other, I think it’s
a really nice balance between
text and image. I also like how
the text is laid out, it starts in
the top left then goes down in a
column and starts again in the
next column, I think this is super
easy for the reader to follow
and overall is just a really good
layout for the double page
spread.
The title ‘Cult Hero’ is in bold text
and right at the top centered in the
middle of the right page. This
makes it super easy to read and it
grabs the reader attention almost
instantly.
Research Summary
• What have you learned from your research?
• What aspects of the research will you include within your on work?
I have learnt a lot through research on effective ways to set out your front cover and double page spreads of a magazine,
it is often effective to have a large image in the center of the page to grabs the audience's attention, this works even
better if the image is of a character looking directly at the camera. I will be using this in my work as I think its really
effective and important in making an appealing magazine. I've also learnt that it is important to pick a colour scheme
that suits and compliments the main focus point of your magazine, this just helps the magazine to look that bit more
professional and can really pull everything together and make the text blend with the imagery, I will try to incorporate
this into my own work.
Video Game Research:
Life Count:
The HUD displays the players number
of lives so they can easily see how
many mistakes they can make before
needing to restart the level.
Timer:
The HUD displays the
amount of time the player
has taken/has left to
complete the level.
Points Counter:
The HUD displays the
amount of points the player
has gathered whilst working
their way through the level,
this can be used as a ranking
system to try make the
game slightly competitive
amongst friends to see who
can get the highest score.
Colours:
This game uses vibrant, light,
saturated colours to make the
game nice to look at and to
grab people's attention. But
to also have a slightly more
calming feel to the game.
Playable Charcter:
The playable character is pretty centralized
on the screen so that they're easy to follow.
Perspective:
It uses a side view camera
angle which moves with the
movement of the players
character from left to right
allowing the player to always
be able to see their character.
Video Game Research:
Health Bar:
The HUD displays the players number of HP left
in the bottom left of their screen next to their
characters image so they can easily gage how
much damage they can take at any point in time.
Collectables:
The HUD displays the
number of coins and other
in game collectables the
player has collected during
their current level. This can
be used to make the game
replay able as the player
may revisit levels to collect
collectables they may have
missed whilst playing the
level for the first time.
Colours:
This game uses dark colours in the
background to set the tone and
mood for the type of environment
the characters are in, but it uses
saturated light colours in the
foreground to make it easy for the
player to focus on the important
aspects of the gameplay.
Playable Character:
The playable character is centralized on the screen
so that they're easy to follow for the player.
Perspective:
It uses a side view camera
angle which moves with the
movement of the players
character from left to right
allowing the player to always
be able to see their character.
Player Specific HUD:
The HUD changes from player to
player. It displays your characters face
in the very bottom left of the screen
so its easy to recognize who you are
controlling, and it also displays that
specific character's special abilities
and the buttons needed to use them.
Video Game Research:
Health Bar:
The HUD displays the players number of HP left in the top left of
their screen next to their characters image so they can easily
gage how much damage they can take at any point in time.
Colours:
This game uses a dark segment at
the bottom to have a clear
differentiation between the
foreground and background. It
makes use of vibrant colours to grab
people's attention who may be
watching the game.
Playable Character:
The playable character is centralized on the screen
so that they're easy to follow for the player.
Perspective:
It uses a side view camera
angle which moves with the
movement of the players
character from left to right
allowing the player to always
be able to see their character.
Opponent’s Health Bar:
The opponent’s health bar
is displayed above the
character so that it is always
in view whilst fighting your
opponent. This way it
makes it extremely
convenient for the player as
they can easily compare
their own health to that of
the opponent's mid fight.
Special Ability:
The HUD displays the players
character's ability and recharge
clearly in the top left of the screen
besides the players health. This
makes it really easy and
convenient for the player to
quickly glance over at.
Video Game Research:
Health Bar:
The HUD displays the players amount of HP left in the top left of
their screen next to an image that symbolizes health so that its
easy for new players to see how much health they have left.
Colours:
This game uses a lot more dark
colours than the other games, it
creates more of an eerie/mystical
tone for the game. However, the
playable character is still in a
reasonably light set of colours
making them easier to follow.
Playable Character:
The playable character is centralized on the screen
so that they're easy to follow for the player as the
camera is locked onto the center of the frame.
Perspective:
It uses a side view camera
angle which moves with the
movement of the players
character from left to right
allowing the player to always
be able to see their character.
Collectables:
In game collectables
counters are located in the
top right of the players
screen, they will be able to
easily see how many of the
collectable items they have
collected in the level they
are currently playing at any
point in time. This can be
used to make the game
replay able as the player
may revisit levels to collect
collectables they may have
missed whilst playing the
level for the first time.
Special Ability:
The HUD displays the players
character's ability recharge clearly
in the top left of the screen next
to the players health. This makes it
really easy and convenient for the
player to quickly glance over at.

Front Cover Double Page Spread Film Poster
I have chosen the colours as they fit very well with
the theme of my story as most of it will be
amongst the oceans meaning the different hues of
blues will work well. I chose the font ‘Explore’ as I
think it looks like parts of the letters have been
eroded away by something and I thought in the
case of my story, this could be the ocean. I will use
this font only for my title. The ‘Futuristic’ font, I
have chosen as its easy to read so ill use this for all
the text on the front cover besides the title.
I chose this colour scheme for the double page
spread as I don’t want the colours to be too
distracting from the text, I chose this colour pallet
because I plan to have a large section of my film
taking place aboard a ship, I think these colours
represent a ship well and I chose the light yellow
to use for stand out text as well as mixing with the
orange and brown well but then the white for text
to stand out from the background image. I chose
this ‘Explore’ font for the titles on my double page
spread as its easy to read and different from the
other text on my page.
The colour scheme that I have chosen for the film
poster has very light shades of blue which I will
use for everything besides the film name and then
I have a bright red to stand out from the rest of
the page which I will use for the title of my film to
make it pop from the rest of the poster, ensuring
it’s the first thing the audience sees when looking
at the poster. As well as a wooden colour to
connect it to context. The font ‘Calvera’ I have
chosen as the font for the title on the film poster
as it should make the title of the film stand out.

Reflection
I like the colour scheme that I have used for my
front cover but I think that if I had matched the
colours closer to those used in the image I used
in the background, it could have looked slightly
nicer. I like the fact that I used an image of the
actor looking away from the camera is unique
and different from other posters, but I think
traditionally, an image of the actor looking at the
camera is more attention grabbing for a potential
reader. I used overlays to make the title of the
film stand out more and it helped me organize
the layout of my front cover as it separated the
magazine’s publisher name and the film title
while leaving room for the image of the actor to
remain visible. Overall, I'm quite happy with my
front cover at the moment but there could be
slight changes I could do to improve it.
Reflection
I like how my poster is set up, I think that the
positioning of everything works well for a poster,
and I think the use of rotoscoping is really nice to
create depth on my poster and it feels like it
connects everything together. I noticed it was
feeling pretty empty once I had initially finished
the poster, so I added my film’s logo behind the
main character, and I think that was a good
addition as it fills space while still
branding/promoting my film. However, I think
that the image I have used may have had the
lights to close as the actors face is a little over
exposed causing the colour to look slightly off. I
also think that the top section of my poster could
use some work as it feels pretty tacky at the
moment. I tried to use a wooden board behind
the text as something to catch the viewers eye
but to also link it to the Mayflower boat which is
a big part in my film.
Reflection
I struggled with ideas for my double page spread
but I do quite like the layout I've used for my
double page spread. So far, its coming along how
I would like it to but I'm not too sure what else I
could add to the right page. Possibly a text box
about an individual character in the film to fill the
empty space at the bottom of the right page,
however, I don’t want to make the page feel too
full so I should be careful how I decide to
implicate this idea if I decide to go ahead with it. I
quite like the boat image that I have used, the
colour palette is really nice and I used
rotoscoping again to add a few different effects to
the image. On the background, I added a cutout
and ocean ripple effect, and, on the boat, I added
a prayed strokes effect. Overall, I'm liking how the
double page spread is coming along but there are
definitely a few improvements I want to make.

The idea behind my film was to create a survivalist feeling adventure as the story follow a troubled character through his
mission to capture and loot a transportation ship that is carrying valuables from a ship wreckage from the early 18th
century, that had recently been discovered. The character would eventually sneak his way onto the ship and one-by-one,
assassinate the crew members aboard the ship. Once he finally gained access to the navigation bridge he would force the
ships captain to abort his current navigation path and to go to an abandoned dock that the character would then move the
valuables from the ship onto his own vehicle to escape with before the police tracked the ship and arrive at the abandoned
dock.

Pre-production and Planning
Style Sheet The 3 colour schemes I have created will be used for
the 3 different levels of my game. The first colour
scheme makes use of darker colours as the first level
of the game will be on the bottom level of the ship,
meaning there will be less light in that level, causing
the colour scheme to be darker than the other levels.
The bottom colour scheme is for level 2 which will be
on the middle level of the ship and has a slightly
lighter colour scheme than the 1st level as there will be
light coming in from the gaps between the planks of
the wooden flooring on the final level. The middle
colour scheme is for the final level and is the lightest
of the colour schemes as it will be on the ship’s deck
meaning it will be fully exposed to sunlight making it
the lightest colour scheme. The idea behind my colour
scheme was very stereotypically of a pirate's ship
typically seen in movies. I selected browns for the
wood that the ship is made of. Gold and silvers for the
treasury on the ship and blues for the water
surrounding the ship.

Game Overview
Theme / Setting / Genre
Show some example images or similar games / movies / books / TV shows with similar themes.
Core Gameplay Mechanics
Point to other games that this is similar to.
I took a lot of inspiration from Super Mario Bros for this
project as I used to play the games quite a bit when I
was younger, so I was familiar with the gameplay. I used
similar colour themes to the Super Mario Bros games
and made my game mechanics really similar to those
found in the original Super Mario Bros games.
Story and Gameplay
Levels
Due to time restraints I was only able to create a singular level for the game but my initial
idea was to have every elevated level on the ship to be a different playable level for the
player within the game.
I planned to make it so that as the character elevated within the levels of the boat, the
difficulty of the level would increase. I planned to make the game more challenging within
the level by making it harder to negate to the end of the level as ell as making the enemies
harder to defeat as well as having the enemies output more damage on the player.
The game would and on the final level which would be on the deck off the ship where the
captain would be. I decided to make the game like this, as in the film, the captain is the
main objective for the character that the film follows so it only felt suitable to make the
captain within the game, the objective for completing the game. Once the player defeats
the captain on the deck, which would play as a boss fight, the game would end.
Assets
● Use this space to show the assets that you have made.
● If they are animated, then embed those animations on to your blog. They won’t work if you embed them here.
● Assets could be character designs and animations, environments, power ups, enemies, game over screens. Make
as much as you can, to get across how your game will look and play.
Evaluation
Research
• I believe my research for my films advertisement was
really effective, it helped to form an idea of what I
wanted my advertisements to look like as I was able to
see what worked well and what didn’t in existing
advertisements for current movies. When I started
production, I was able to use what I had discovered
during research to come up with effective layout ides
for my own advertisements. Using these effective
layouts I had discovered, I was able to make a visually
pleasing advertisement whilst at the same time,
making it convenient and easy to read. This ultimately
was a result of a successful research period.
Planning
• Using my research, I was able to use
the ideas of effective layouts that I
had come up with to create a simple
temporary layout of how I wanted my
final product to look. This saved me a
lot of time during the production
process as I had created the exact
layout that I wanted to use for the
final project. In production, I was able
to use the images that I had taken
and lay them out in the formation of
my temporary layout idea to create a
final product I was happy with.
Time Management
• I managed my time well during this section of the project, I never had any issues
regarding time. I managed to create all the advertisement posters I wanted to
create. I was also able to spend a reasonable amount of time on research which
allowed me to discover effective layouts for my advertisements which allowed
me to finish the production section quicker than I would have been able to
otherwise. We also left enough time after research to gather our photos to use
for our advertisements. I also planned to leave some extra time in case I needed
to retake any photos if some didn’t turn out how I wished. However, I didn’t need
to retake any photos in the end and had enough I was happy with to create my
advertisements so hat left me extra time than I had planned to have during
production.
Technical Qualities
• During this section of the project I used relatively simple
photoshop techniques, but I was able to do everything that I
wanted to do and I was happy with the final outcome of my
advertisements. I also used simple photography skills to gather
photos for my advertisements but I didn’t need anything more,
the simple photography skills I used got me everything I needed
and I think trying to o something advanced for this purpose would
have just been a waste of time. By keeping the techniques I used
simple, I was able to save myself time and create a more
appealing and effective advertisement for the audience, using the
time frame that I had to work within.
• I roto brushed Henry from the image to allow me to put text and
imagery behind him creating depth within my poster.
Aesthetic Qualities
• Overall, I believe that I made an appealing advertisement for the
audience, I made use of colour schemes to make the film easily
recognisable. I had a consistent colour theme through my poster
and magazine over so that from a first glance, the audience could
associate those colours with my film. I had to be careful whilst
doing this though as I did not want to use the same colour scheme
to much as to the point it would become boring so, for my double
page spread, I created a completely new colour scheme which
would be associated with the climax of my film, this way it could
still be associated with my film, but have a fresh feel to it. I like the
fonts that I used, I feel they fit the film nicely but also provide an
easy and enjoyable reading experience for the audience, and I
believe that the layouts I had chosen complement this nicely as
they also provide an enjoyable reading experience as well as
presenting the information aesthetically.
Audience Appeal
• I believe that I appealed to my target audience with the colour
schemes that I used throughout my advertisements. I believe the
uses of bight, saturated colours appeals to my target audience as
the target audience is probably quite a young audience. I also made
sure to use simple fonts to appeal to my target audience to make
sure that the information on the advertisements is not at all
challenging to read.
Research
• My research for my video game was really effective as it allowed
me to see everything that went into making an enjoyable video
game. I was able to discover all the major types of video games
and then narrow them down until I eventually got one that I
most wanted to create, which was a side scroller. I then did some
further research into side scrollers which allowed me to find out
popular colour schemes used, best type of music to fit the theme
and all the general conventions to making a side scroller. This
allowed me to pick out a colour scheme that fit my film early on.
This saved me a lot of time further into the production section of
this project and allowed me to spend more time creating the
more detailed sections of my project such as the ship that the
game is set on.
Planning
• Following my research, I was able to efficiently plan
how I was going to create my video game. I used my
research and laid out a plan for my colour scheme
early on as well as how I wanted the playable
character to move around the screen. From my
search I discovered that the most effective way for
the character to move is to actually make it look like
the characters isn’t actually moving at all. So, I
planned to create all the animation of my character
navigating the ship using the walk cycle I created
then in post production, use after effects positioning
functionality and keyframes to follow he character so
tat it appears that just the scenery behind the
playable character is moving as the character
remains perfectly centred throughout the game.
Time Management
• I believe that I manage my time reasonably well throughout this project, I got
through the research and planning sections of this project pretty quickly, allowing
me to spend extra time on experiments and production. This allowed me to et
myself familiar with the photoshop animation system. Because I had left myself
extra time for experiments, I was able to create a gun animation that I planned to
use something similar to in my final project (however I eventually didn’t end up
using a gun animation) as well as a simple walk cycle that I took heavy inspiration
from during the production stage to create my final walk cycle.
Technical Qualities
• Throughout production, I used a combination of
different resolutions to save time, while also not
giving up too much quality. I used smaller
resolutions around 120px80p to create my
characters and pickup-able items around the
level, but larger resolutions, around
2560px1707p to combine all my assets together
to create a high quality image to allowing
zooming in, during post production on after
effects. I also used a resolution of 1080px720p
to create the actual map, this was so that I
could create an outline and foundation that
resembled a boat as 120px80p was too small to
create a detailed ship. Once I had created the
ship, I scaled it up to the 2560px1707p to add in
the characters. My walk simple was pretty
simple but it did the job well enough to not be
off putting from the rest of the game, I also
created a simple jumping animation just to
make it a slight bit smoother. My entire
animation was just under 200 frames long.
Aesthetic Qualities
• I believe that I made an appealing game, I think the colours
used are saturated and light enough to be appealing to the
audience but not too off putting from the gameplay. I
increased the saturation of the original colour scheme that I
picked out just slightly as after my research, I discovered that a
large majority of popular side scrollers have highly saturated
colour schemes. I also made sure to make the colour scheme
related to the film and as a vast majority of the film is in the
boat, a lot of browns were used to create my video game. I
also made sure to make my walk cycle smooth enough to not
be off putting from the gameplay but not take up too much
time to animate, this allowed me to make my video game that
little bit more aesthetically pleasing.
Aural Qualities
• I believe that the song that I created using
Beepbox for my games main theme was a good
recreation of classic Sidescroller music. Before
starting on my games music, I did some research
into other sidescrollers' music and eventually
decided that I liked the classic sounds of Super
Mario Bros so I took heavy inspiration for my
music from there. I researched into the
instruments that the Super Mario Bros theme
was composed of and tried to use similar
instruments in my music. I’m really happy with
the outcome and think I managed to achieve my
aims for the music within the short amount of
time I spent on it.
• I also used Beepbox to create an explosion sound
using drums for the collection of dynamite that
blows up aboard the ship which I think works well
and adds impact to the sound design.
• If I had more time I would make sounds for
pickupable items such as the sword to just make
the sound design that little bit more immersive.
Audience
Appeal
• I believe that I appealed to my target
audience by creating a game that was
easy to follow, understand an play.
Whilst creating the game, I planned to
make sure that the game had no
complex ideas behind it so that
everyone could enjoy it, even if they
had not seen the film, which could
bring extra attention to the film,
through the video game. I also made
sure to make the amount of
movements relatively simple also by
limiting it to just necessities to
complete the game.
Overall strengths and weaknesses of the final
package.
• I think that the main strength of my final package is the colour schemes across
the advertisements and the video game are both relatable to the movie and fit
the purpose of the product they're applied in.
• Another strength of my final products is that they’re all accessible to everyone as
the video game has simple game mechanics and the advertisements make use of
simple fonts to provide a easy reading experience.
• A weakness with my final products could be that they’re not the most advanced
products and in that way, could feel quite generic to the audience and therefor
may not attract that much attention.

  • 7. WWWWWH Who Peter Parker is a high school student and lives at home with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben. He has lived with them since a very young age as his Mum and Dad were killed trying to publish important research on human cross genetics that his dad had been studying. What Peter Parkers dad is an important scientist at Oscorp, he has been researching cross species genetics hoping to help human evolve and become stronger. The film starts with peter playing hide and seek with his dad around their family home. Peter cant find his dad and walks into his study room in hopes of finding him, he then shouts for his dad who hurries to his study and finds peter stood in the middle of a destroyed room with broken windows making you think that an intruder has been in the study. Peters dad grabs all his research and flees the house with his wife and peter, they then drop peter off at his Aunt May’s and Uncle Ben’s house to stay there while they leave the country. Why Peter’s Dad’s research would have been at vale to a lot of people and also valuable to the medical industry if they could develop successful medicine using the research. This means that people could have been trying to steal his research to try make a profit for themselves by selling it which is why I think that it appeared someone had broken into peter’s Dad’s study. When The starting sequence of the movie where peter is left with his Aunt and Uncle is set in the year 2000. However the rest of the film is set in the year 2013. Where The Amazing Spider Man is set in New York City, USA. How Peter is bitten by a spider whilst on a tour around Oscorp (led by Gwen Stacy) which then caused the DNA of the spider to mix with the human DNA of Peter, this caused peter to develop the proportional strength of a spider and other abilities. This is an example of cross species genetics which is what Peter’s dad, Richard had been researching and practicing prior to his death. Peter was the first successful example of cross species genetics. Use this template to apply Who, What, Where, When, Why and How to your chosen film. Write in the boxes to explain what is happening in your story at each point.

  • 19. Existing Product: The image used on the front cover of the magazine I think is really effective as it shows the duality of the Joker’s Character perfectly. It shows joker as 2 different people, Arthur Fleck, his normal self and The Joker, his nihilistic alter ego as a result of constant abuse as a child. The colours used on the magazine also represent the Jokers character well as it uses a dark background to bring attention to the character and the text and it makes use of green which symbolizes the Joker as generally that is the Jokers colour. The image used of the actor as the center piece of the magazine is making direct eye contact with the audience whilst the Joker is looking away from the audience maybe symbolizing that the Arthur Fleck is more stable minded than his alter ego. The move title ‘Joker’ is in its own bold font and is one of the largest words on the magazine to ensure its one of the first things the audience reads to know exactly what the issue is about. The only other text besides the titles and empire branding is only really just warning of spoilers for the movies in the magazine issue and naming the other 2 movies/shows in the issue; Spider- Man and Stranger Things. I’d say that the image to text ratio is almost even, maybe the images are slightly more dominant than the text but not by much.
  • 20. Existing Product The title ‘The DC Extended Universe’ is the largest text on the page and is also in bold, this is to make the title of the page stand out so that the reader knows what the spread is about. The double page spread is also set put very nicely; the chapter titles are in red bold righting above the summary of the chapter making it very easy to follow for the reader. I would say overall there is quite a bit more text than images on the two pages. I think that the separation of the superman show from the main DC Extended Universe summary by utilizing background colours is really smart as it makes it easy for the reader separate the two different summaries. This layout of the double page spread as a whole is nice as well as the text starts in the top left corner with the title then falls down from the left to the bottom then along to the right, this works well as we have been taught to read from the left to the right so this layout automatically feels normal for the reader and makes the summary easier to follow and read. The fonts used are very simple but I think this is probably intentional as its convenient for the reader as they're easy fonts to read. The two main titles are in slightly different fonts to separate them from the summaries. I think that the colours work really nicely on this double page spread as the main article is black text on a white background with red titles so that its easy to read for the audience. And the extra background info on a superman show is black text on a yellow background to separate the two.
  • 21. The image sed is a pretty recognisable figure If you have seen the movie before and you can instantly recognize what film saga this issue covers and the specific film which is probably why the title is so small and tucked away in the corner of the page. However, if you have not seen the movie this front cover wouldn’t help you to identify the movie easily, you wouldn’t be able to recognize the character on the front cover and the title is so small it may be missed. The head on angle on the character is nice as it shows the character looking directly at the audience, grabbing your attention. The colours aren’t too vibrant but I think that’s the general style the magazine brand goes with. I do think if it had slightly more vibrant reds it would make the magazine stand out a lot more. Existing Product
  • 22. Existing Product The colour scheme on this double page spread is really nice and, in my opinion, I think its one of the nicest colour schemes I've seen. The black and white is really subtle and works well for shadow and light in the image but also text on the other page and the light red is really nice to add some pop and highlight certain parts of the double page spread. I like the fonts used in the tile are really nice as they're unique and makes this issue stand out from others but they're also easy to read and not too complex. The text used for the informational text covering most of the right page is also really simple and therefor easy for the audience to read. I like how this double page spread is set out with the image from the movie pained/drawn on the left page covering that page completely but then having all the information on the left page under the title and surrounding a smaller image. I think it makes the double page spread more enticing to read because of the images, it makes there seem like there is a lot less text on the page. Because there's an image on one page and text on the other, I think it’s a really nice balance between text and image. I also like how the text is laid out, it starts in the top left then goes down in a column and starts again in the next column, I think this is super easy for the reader to follow and overall is just a really good layout for the double page spread. The title ‘Cult Hero’ is in bold text and right at the top centered in the middle of the right page. This makes it super easy to read and it grabs the reader attention almost instantly.
  • 23. Research Summary • What have you learned from your research? • What aspects of the research will you include within your on work? I have learnt a lot through research on effective ways to set out your front cover and double page spreads of a magazine, it is often effective to have a large image in the center of the page to grabs the audience's attention, this works even better if the image is of a character looking directly at the camera. I will be using this in my work as I think its really effective and important in making an appealing magazine. I've also learnt that it is important to pick a colour scheme that suits and compliments the main focus point of your magazine, this just helps the magazine to look that bit more professional and can really pull everything together and make the text blend with the imagery, I will try to incorporate this into my own work.

This makes it really easy and convenient for the player to quickly glance over at.
  • 27. Video Game Research: Health Bar: The HUD displays the players amount of HP left in the top left of their screen next to an image that symbolizes health so that its easy for new players to see how much health they have left. Colours: This game uses a lot more dark colours than the other games, it creates more of an eerie/mystical tone for the game. Special Ability: The HUD displays the players character's ability recharge clearly in the top left of the screen next to the players health. This makes it really easy and convenient for the player to quickly glance over at.
  • 30. Front Cover Double Page Spread Film Poster I have chosen the colours as they fit very well with the theme of my story as most of it will be amongst the oceans meaning the different hues of blues will work well. I chose the font ‘Explore’ as I think it looks like parts of the letters have been eroded away by something and I thought in the case of my story, this could be the ocean. I will use this font only for my title. The ‘Futuristic’ font, I have chosen as its easy to read so ill use this for all the text on the front cover besides the title. I chose this colour scheme for the double page spread as I don’t want the colours to be too distracting from the text, I chose this colour pallet because I plan to have a large section of my film taking place aboard a ship, I think these colours represent a ship well and I chose the light yellow to use for stand out text as well as mixing with the orange and brown well but then the white for text to stand out from the background image. I chose this ‘Explore’ font for the titles on my double page spread as its easy to read and different from the other text on my page. The colour scheme that I have chosen for the film poster has very light shades of blue which I will use for everything besides the film name and then I have a bright red to stand out from the rest of the page which I will use for the title of my film to make it pop from the rest of the poster, ensuring it’s the first thing the audience sees when looking at the poster. As well as a wooden colour to connect it to context. The font ‘Calvera’ I have chosen as the font for the title on the film poster as it should make the title of the film stand out.

  • 35. Reflection I like the colour scheme that I have used for my front cover but I think that if I had matched the colours closer to those used in the image I used in the background, it could have looked slightly nicer. I like the fact that I used an image of the actor looking away from the camera is unique and different from other posters, but I think traditionally, an image of the actor looking at the camera is more attention grabbing for a potential reader. I used overlays to make the title of the film stand out more and it helped me organize the layout of my front cover as it separated the magazine’s publisher name and the film title while leaving room for the image of the actor to remain visible. Overall, I'm quite happy with my front cover at the moment but there could be slight changes I could do to improve it.
  • 36. Reflection I like how my poster is set up, I think that the positioning of everything works well for a poster, and I think the use of rotoscoping is really nice to create depth on my poster and it feels like it connects everything together. I noticed it was feeling pretty empty once I had initially finished the poster, so I added my film’s logo behind the main character, and I think that was a good addition as it fills space while still branding/promoting my film. However, I think that the image I have used may have had the lights to close as the actors face is a little over exposed causing the colour to look slightly off. I also think that the top section of my poster could use some work as it feels pretty tacky at the moment. I tried to use a wooden board behind the text as something to catch the viewers eye but to also link it to the Mayflower boat which is a big part in my film.
  • 37. Reflection I struggled with ideas for my double page spread but I do quite like the layout I've used for my double page spread. So far, its coming along how I would like it to but I'm not too sure what else I could add to the right page. Possibly a text box about an individual character in the film to fill the empty space at the bottom of the right page, however, I don’t want to make the page feel too full so I should be careful how I decide to implicate this idea if I decide to go ahead with it. I quite like the boat image that I have used, the colour palette is really nice and I used rotoscoping again to add a few different effects to the image. On the background, I added a cutout and ocean ripple effect, and, on the boat, I added a prayed strokes effect. Overall, I'm liking how the double page spread is coming along but there are definitely a few improvements I want to make.
  • 39. Using your plans, produce: • A synopsis for your film • A magazine front cover, promoting the film • Additional advertising to promote the film
  • 40. Synopsis Use this space for your synopsis. If you have produced different drafts or alternative ideas, then include those here too. The more work the better. Show your working. The idea behind my film was to create a survivalist feeling adventure as the story follow a troubled character through his mission to capture and loot a transportation ship that is carrying valuables from a ship wreckage from the early 18th century, that had recently been discovered. The character would eventually sneak his way onto the ship and one-by-one, assassinate the crew members aboard the ship. Once he finally gained access to the navigation bridge he would force the ships captain to abort his current navigation path and to go to an abandoned dock that the character would then move the valuables from the ship onto his own vehicle to escape with before the police tracked the ship and arrive at the abandoned dock.

  • 45. Style Sheet The 3 colour schemes I have created will be used for the 3 different levels of my game. The first colour scheme makes use of darker colours as the first level of the game will be on the bottom level of the ship, meaning there will be less light in that level, causing the colour scheme to be darker than the other levels. The bottom colour scheme is for level 2 which will be on the middle level of the ship and has a slightly lighter colour scheme than the 1st level as there will be light coming in from the gaps between the planks of the wooden flooring on the final level. The middle colour scheme is for the final level and is the lightest of the colour schemes as it will be on the ship’s deck meaning it will be fully exposed to sunlight making it the lightest colour scheme. The idea behind my colour scheme was very stereotypically of a pirate's ship typically seen in movies. I selected browns for the wood that the ship is made of. Gold and silvers for the treasury on the ship and blues for the water surrounding the ship.
  • 48. Game Summary A quick summary of the game. ● Character navigates the ship to reach the end ● Starts on the bottom level of the ship and makes their way up ● Can find pickup able items to complete a level ● Can collect coins throughout the level to save up to purchase cosmetics ● Must dodge hazards located within the ship ● Must defeat all enemies aboard the ship to complete the level ● Must defeat the final boss on the deck of the ship to finish the game
  • 49. Game Overview Theme / Setting / Genre Show some example images or similar games / movies / books / TV shows with similar themes. Core Gameplay Mechanics Point to other games that this is similar to. I took a lot of inspiration from Super Mario Bros for this project as I used to play the games quite a bit when I was younger, so I was familiar with the gameplay. I used similar colour themes to the Super Mario Bros games and made my game mechanics really similar to those found in the original Super Mario Bros games.
  • 51. Levels Due to time restraints I was only able to create a singular level for the game but my initial idea was to have every elevated level on the ship to be a different playable level for the player within the game. I planned to make it so that as the character elevated within the levels of the boat, the difficulty of the level would increase. I planned to make the game more challenging within the level by making it harder to negate to the end of the level as ell as making the enemies harder to defeat as well as having the enemies output more damage on the player. The game would and on the final level which would be on the deck off the ship where the captain would be. I decided to make the game like this, as in the film, the captain is the main objective for the character that the film follows so it only felt suitable to make the captain within the game, the objective for completing the game. Once the player defeats the captain on the deck, which would play as a boss fight, the game would end.

  • 54. Research • I believe my research for my films advertisement was really effective, it helped to form an idea of what I wanted my advertisements to look like as I was able to see what worked well and what didn’t in existing advertisements for current movies. When I started production, I was able to use what I had discovered during research to come up with effective layout ides for my own advertisements. Using these effective layouts I had discovered, I was able to make a visually pleasing advertisement whilst at the same time, making it convenient and easy to read. This ultimately was a result of a successful research period.
  • 55. Planning • Using my research, I was able to use the ideas of effective layouts that I had come up with to create a simple temporary layout of how I wanted my final product to look. This saved me a lot of time during the production process as I had created the exact layout that I wanted to use for the final project. In production, I was able to use the images that I had taken and lay them out in the formation of my temporary layout idea to create a final product I was happy with.
  • 56. Time Management • I managed my time well during this section of the project, I never had any issues regarding time. I managed to create all the advertisement posters I wanted to create. I was also able to spend a reasonable amount of time on research which allowed me to discover effective layouts for my advertisements which allowed me to finish the production section quicker than I would have been able to otherwise. We also left enough time after research to gather our photos to use for our advertisements. I also planned to leave some extra time in case I needed to retake any photos if some didn’t turn out how I wished. However, I didn’t need to retake any photos in the end and had enough I was happy with to create my advertisements so hat left me extra time than I had planned to have during production.
  • 57. Technical Qualities • During this section of the project I used relatively simple photoshop techniques, but I was able to do everything that I wanted to do and I was happy with the final outcome of my advertisements. I also used simple photography skills to gather photos for my advertisements but I didn’t need anything more, the simple photography skills I used got me everything I needed and I think trying to o something advanced for this purpose would have just been a waste of time. By keeping the techniques I used simple, I was able to save myself time and create a more appealing and effective advertisement for the audience, using the time frame that I had to work within. • I roto brushed Henry from the image to allow me to put text and imagery behind him creating depth within my poster.
  • 58. Aesthetic Qualities • Overall, I believe that I made an appealing advertisement for the audience, I made use of colour schemes to make the film easily recognisable. I had a consistent colour theme through my poster and magazine over so that from a first glance, the audience could associate those colours with my film. I had to be careful whilst doing this though as I did not want to use the same colour scheme to much as to the point it would become boring so, for my double page spread, I created a completely new colour scheme which would be associated with the climax of my film, this way it could still be associated with my film, but have a fresh feel to it. I like the fonts that I used, I feel they fit the film nicely but also provide an easy and enjoyable reading experience for the audience, and I believe that the layouts I had chosen complement this nicely as they also provide an enjoyable reading experience as well as presenting the information aesthetically.
  • 59. Audience Appeal • I believe that I appealed to my target audience with the colour schemes that I used throughout my advertisements. I believe the uses of bight, saturated colours appeals to my target audience as the target audience is probably quite a young audience. I also made sure to use simple fonts to appeal to my target audience to make sure that the information on the advertisements is not at all challenging to read.
  • 60. Research • My research for my video game was really effective as it allowed me to see everything that went into making an enjoyable video game. I was able to discover all the major types of video games and then narrow them down until I eventually got one that I most wanted to create, which was a side scroller. I then did some further research into side scrollers which allowed me to find out popular colour schemes used, best type of music to fit the theme and all the general conventions to making a side scroller. This allowed me to pick out a colour scheme that fit my film early on. This saved me a lot of time further into the production section of this project and allowed me to spend more time creating the more detailed sections of my project such as the ship that the game is set on.
  • 61. Planning • Following my research, I was able to efficiently plan how I was going to create my video game. I used my research and laid out a plan for my colour scheme early on as well as how I wanted the playable character to move around the screen. From my search I discovered that the most effective way for the character to move is to actually make it look like the characters isn’t actually moving at all. So, I planned to create all the animation of my character navigating the ship using the walk cycle I created then in post production, use after effects positioning functionality and keyframes to follow he character so tat it appears that just the scenery behind the playable character is moving as the character remains perfectly centred throughout the game.
  • 62. Time Management • I believe that I manage my time reasonably well throughout this project, I got through the research and planning sections of this project pretty quickly, allowing me to spend extra time on experiments and production. This allowed me to et myself familiar with the photoshop animation system. Because I had left myself extra time for experiments, I was able to create a gun animation that I planned to use something similar to in my final project (however I eventually didn’t end up using a gun animation) as well as a simple walk cycle that I took heavy inspiration from during the production stage to create my final walk cycle.
  • 63. Technical Qualities • Throughout production, I used a combination of different resolutions to save time, while also not giving up too much quality. I used smaller resolutions around 120px80p to create my characters and pickup-able items around the level, but larger resolutions, around 2560px1707p to combine all my assets together to create a high quality image to allowing zooming in, during post production on after effects. I also used a resolution of 1080px720p to create the actual map, this was so that I could create an outline and foundation that resembled a boat as 120px80p was too small to create a detailed ship. Once I had created the ship, I scaled it up to the 2560px1707p to add in the characters. My walk simple was pretty simple but it did the job well enough to not be off putting from the rest of the game, I also created a simple jumping animation just to make it a slight bit smoother. My entire animation was just under 200 frames long.
  • 64. Aesthetic Qualities • I believe that I made an appealing game, I think the colours used are saturated and light enough to be appealing to the audience but not too off putting from the gameplay. I increased the saturation of the original colour scheme that I picked out just slightly as after my research, I discovered that a large majority of popular side scrollers have highly saturated colour schemes. I also made sure to make the colour scheme related to the film and as a vast majority of the film is in the boat, a lot of browns were used to create my video game. I also made sure to make my walk cycle smooth enough to not be off putting from the gameplay but not take up too much time to animate, this allowed me to make my video game that little bit more aesthetically pleasing.
  • 65. Aural Qualities • I believe that the song that I created using Beepbox for my games main theme was a good recreation of classic Sidescroller music. Before starting on my games music, I did some research into other sidescrollers' music and eventually decided that I liked the classic sounds of Super Mario Bros so I took heavy inspiration for my music from there. I researched into the instruments that the Super Mario Bros theme was composed of and tried to use similar instruments in my music. I’m really happy with the outcome and think I managed to achieve my aims for the music within the short amount of time I spent on it. • I also used Beepbox to create an explosion sound using drums for the collection of dynamite that blows up aboard the ship which I think works well and adds impact to the sound design. • If I had more time I would make sounds for pickupable items such as the sword to just make the sound design that little bit more immersive.
  • 66. Audience Appeal • I believe that I appealed to my target audience by creating a game that was easy to follow, understand an play. Whilst creating the game, I planned to make sure that the game had no complex ideas behind it so that everyone could enjoy it, even if they had not seen the film, which could bring extra attention to the film, through the video game. I also made sure to make the amount of movements relatively simple also by limiting it to just necessities to complete the game.
  • 67. Overall strengths and weaknesses of the final package. • I think that the main strength of my final package is the colour schemes across the advertisements and the video game are both relatable to the movie and fit the purpose of the product they're applied in. • Another strength of my final products is that they’re all accessible to everyone as the video game has simple game mechanics and the advertisements make use of simple fonts to provide a easy reading experience. • A weakness with my final products could be that they’re not the most advanced products and in that way, could feel quite generic to the audience and therefor may not attract that much attention.
