Utilizing the cloud can provide robots with access to extensive resources of data which cannot be maintained in the
typical on-board memory. Enabled by the cloud, interaction with other robots and exchanging massive amounts of data
in real time will enhance the quality and speed of operations.
Trend Description
Currently, a high number of robots and automation
systems still operate independently and separately, using
on-board computation, memory, and programming. With
the spread of networking in the cloud, new approaches are
available where processing is performed remotely with
access to dynamic, global datasets to support a range of
functions.
Cloud robotics has the potential of freeing robots from
computing constraints and make robots “smart enough” to
handle challenging situations. Advances in Big Data help
to deal with the vast amount of data generated by sensor-

(pick-by-voice) or smart glasses using augmented reality
(pick-by-vision).

It is possible for corporations to 3D print full robots in condensed production timeframes, and therefore experiment with new designs faster (Agile Prototyping and Development).
