SYNERGY Unique Features
9. CLYDE FUSION
Digital Radio
Station Packages
The audio mixer, the various software applications and the associated IT hardware,
including sound and interface cards, together with loudspeaker and headphone
amplifiers and guest remote interfaces account for the lion’s share of studio equipment.
The SYNERGY approach offers many user benefits:
• A single point of contact for (all) equipment
• A single commercial transaction and delivery logistics
• A single point of contact for supply, installation, training and support
• The ability to jointly access mixer, playout system and server, remotely, for support
purposes
• Plug and play operation – the system can be totally pre-configured
• No opportunity to blame other suppliers for any problems!
• Many unique features as a result of the integration between core studio components
• Fully scaleable – add more studios and/or workstations at any time
SYNERGY Benefits of this approach
10. CLYDE FUSION
Digital Radio
Station Packages
• The three FUSION Packages, FP1, FP2 and FP3, share common equipment, but are each
aimed at different levels of operation and sophistication, to allow programming to be
tailored to different sizes of audience.
• Packages are made up of On Air and Production studios, with workstations and ‘CTA’
(Central Technical Area) equipment.
• The CTA equipment connects the studios and workstations, and provides the link to the
outside world.
• On Air Studios are either Clyde SYNERGY Silver or Bronze Self-Op Packages, and
production studios are based around Yamaha digital mixers, running SYNERGY
Production Software.
• All packages feature FABS - Clyde’s Failsafe Audio Back-Up System, which ensures that
there is no dead-air, even when the station is running unattended, and DALS – Dual
Audio Link System, a very robust studio to transmitter link system, with local
(transmitter-site) standby audio.

• LIVE ASSIST broadcast can originate from either the Main or Back-Up on air studios,
with selection being via on-screen controls in each studio, using the OFFER and
ACCEPT protocol, which ensures that a DJ in one studio does not ‘let go’ of broadcasts
without there being someone to take over in the other studio!
• The actual source which is sent to the transmitter, via the STL, is fed via a TSM2
Switcher, located in the CTA rack.
• The TSM2 Switcher is controlled either by front-panel buttons, or remotely from the On
Air studios (in FP1 and FP2 only).

The TSM2 is at the heart of the station, and manages a number of functions:
• Selection of which source is sent to the transmitter:
• Studio 1
• Studio 2
• Re-broadcast (Sustain)
• Patch
• Program Level Monitoring
• Automatic switching between studios should the Level drop below a preset
threshold for a preset duration –FABS – Failsafe Audio Back-up System
• Monitor Selection, audible and visual
• Tone generation, for alignment purposes
• Audio distribution of studio outputs, news and re-broadcast audio and off-air
receiver feeds

Failsafe Audio Back-up System
When operating in an automated
(unattended) mode – for example,

on air studio, (a PC failure for example)
FABS detects loss of output and sends
a command to the back-up studio to
load the current log and start playing
the item in the playlist which
previously failed, and automatically
switches the feed from this studio to
the transmitter, avoiding dead-air.

• Dual Network Cards With Active Failover
• As standard, supplied with 4 X 1Tb Hard Drives (RAID 10 Arrangement, 2Tb usable storage)
• Dedicated Hardware RAID HBA Disk Controller
• The Content Server also runs Logging software – recording a feed from the Off Air
Receiver, for proof of broadcast purposes.
• Finally, the Content Server takes its primary time and date reference from an external GPS
Receiver, acting as a Network Protocol Time server for all network connected PCs.

25. CLYDE FUSION
Digital Radio
Station Packages
• All three FUSION Packages contain these two receivers.
• The Off-Air Receiver is tuned to the station’s transmission frequency, and its output is
distributed to on-air studios.
• This allows station personnel to monitor the quality of the feed – and hopefully be the
first to know if there is a problem!
• The output also appears as a source to the TSM2 engineering monitor unit.
• All station staff should be encouraged to listen off-air periodically.
• A feed from the receiver is also LOGGED –(recorded) as proof of broadcast.
OFF-AIR RECEIVER
26. CLYDE FUSION
Digital Radio
Station Packages
• The Re-Broadcast Receiver will be tuned to receive the strongest and most appropriate All
India Radio transmission, used to re-broadcast AIR news bulletins.
• Its output appears as a source to the on-air studios, and also to an input on the TSM2
transmission router.
• This receiver can thus be put ‘to air’ in two ways – either directly via the TSM2, or as a
source via a fader in an on air studio.
• For station’s running in automation, e.g. overnight, it is possible to insert an event in the
Playlist which effectively opens and closes the appropriate ‘re-broadcast’ fader on the
mixer, at the times when news broadcasts are due, and for the appropriate durations.
• This is a feature which requires considerably more bespoke engineering with virtually any
other type of equipment, but is simple for Synergy systems due to the high level of
integration between playout software and mixer behaviour and control inherent in the
Synergy design, and is worthy of further investigation.

SID Studio Indicator Display
• In FP1 and FP2, the Content Server, which takes its time and
date reference from a GPS receiver (and thus is extremely
accurate) is used as a station-wide source of synchronised
time information.
• Time, date and studio status and switching information is
transported across the broadcast network, so no extra cabling
is required.
• The SID monitor (a standard flat-screen) can display up to five
customisable status indications, triggered either from within
Synergy or externally, fro a telephone system to indicate an
incoming call for example.
• Scrolling text messages from external news feeds, e.g. CNN,
BBC etc can be displayed, or alternatively PLAYING NOW and
NEXT information can be displayed, read from the Synergy On
Air Playlist.

SID Studio Indicator Display
• In FUSION Packages each studio has a SID
• Users can choose between an analog or a digital clock display
• Indication mode – solid, flashing or burst, is user configurable, as is text (language) and

• Additional SID monitors can easily be added, in reception and newsroom areas for
example

FUSION PACKAGES Purchasing Options
For each of the Fusion Packages there are three purchasing options:
FP CORE
This includes the basic elements, manufactured by Clyde, which are core to the system
design. The CORE Packages are aimed at organisations who wish to source non-core
equipment themselves, including the provision of technical containment and all cables,
connectors and wiring.
A visit to site by a certified Clyde engineer to inspect and commission the installation, if
required, can be provided – the cost will depend on location.
Additional training from Clyde can also be provided, either virtually, at Clyde Broadcast in
the UK, or at the customer’s site.

FP PREMIUM
This includes ALL studio, CTA and transmitter site audio equipment, but excludes
technical containment and all cables, connectors and wiring.
This option is aimed at organisations who wish to outsource all equipment, but have it
installed locally.

required, can be provided – the cost will depend on location.

FP PREMIUM PLUS
This is effectively a full Clyde ‘Turnkey’, whereby Clyde supply, install and commission all
equipment including technical containment.
This option is more suited to organisations without any previous experience or current
expertise, who want a fully guaranteed installation in the absolute minimum of time.
Premium Plus Package include two days on-site training of customer staff by a Clyde
certified engineer or trainer.
Additional training can be provided.
