The origins of the english language Reflection
1. The Origins of the English Language reflection
I strongly believe that to get to know, to learn and to teach a new language, it is
necessary and almost compulsory to research and look for the origin of that
specific language we are trying to adopt, learn or get to know.
For centuries now, people from different places have come to establish that
languages are a sort of mixture, combination or complementation of several
dialects from all over the world that have been changing because of the influence
of a variety of factors which are explained in a very simple way in the summary of
the same name, uploaded in this website.
This summary and the following ones, which were made with a lot of effort and
dedication, are more than fundamental to achieve not only the first two specific
objectives of this, the Lexical Analysis course, but also a wide spread variety of
contents and courses that I have taken so far. It will help you to understand the
contents of this course by explaining them through concept maps that are mainly
related to a little bit of both objectives one and two wish are: 1) Characterise
different periods in the history of the English Language and 2)Characterise word
formation processes in the English language. These course objectives mentioned
before can be achieved by studying the power point presentation uploaded before,
for this summary helped me and it will probably help someone else, to understand
and characterise the different processes which are involved in the word formation
of the English Language.
I am a curious young woman and history, for me, is quite fascinating; maybe that
is why I really enjoyed reading this document, because I love English and as an
English pedagogy student I believe to be important to get familiar with the very
beginnings of this, a worldwide language. And it is an amazing thing! To get to
learn the origins of a language, in this case English, which I think, it has a very
exciting history, a history that is really worthy to study. Celts, Saxons, Normans
and Vikings, fight with heart and soul, and their interactions, their social and
linguistic influences on each other, result in different languages; some of them
remain, some of them are now extinct and some of them are very important
nowadays, and by ‘very important’ I mean a language that is globally used, like
English, which has become a world language, a language that is taught as a
foreign language in schools all over the globe.
Personally, I have always been a huge fan of concept maps, or maybe not only
concept maps, but summaries of all kinds; and I truly believe that trying to get the
main ideas and adding colour to a summary or a map, can help you and your
precious mind when it comes to put your thoughts in order. At least for me that
helps; maybe because I am a visual learner.
