Charting the Future:
Where we’ve been!
 Charting the Future (CTF) started with six base
recommendations that were adopted by the Board of Trustees.
 Those six are:
◦ Drastically increase the success of all learners, especially those in diverse
populations traditionally underserved in higher education
◦ Develop a collaborative and coordinated academic planning process that
advances affordability, transferability, and access to our programs and
services across the state.
◦ Certify student competencies and capabilities, expand pathways to
accelerate degree completion through credit for prior learning, and foster
the award of competency-based credit and degrees.
◦ Expand the innovative use of technology to deliver high quality online
courses, strengthen classroom instruction and student services, and
provide more individualized learning and advising.
◦ Work together under new models to be the preferred provider of
comprehensive workplace solutions…
◦ Redesign our financial and administrative models to reward collaboration,
drive efficiencies, and strengthen our ability to provide an extraordinary
education for all Minnesotans.
The “Six”
 Creation of the “implementation process;”
◦ Contract with McKinsey
 Controversy
◦ 8 implementation teams created through the
McKinsey designed process.
 Student success, Diversity, Comprehensive
Workplace Solutions, Academic Planning, System
Incentives and Rewards, Credit for Prior Learning,
Education Technology, and Information Technology
Systems and Design
◦ Team composition
 Students, faculty, campus staff, and administrators
 Lead by a college or university president (except
one)

participate in the process.

work from going forward

  • 2.  Charting the Future (CTF) started with six base recommendations that were adopted by the Board of Trustees.  Those six are: ◦ Drastically increase the success of all learners, especially those in diverse populations traditionally underserved in higher education ◦ Develop a collaborative and coordinated academic planning process that advances affordability, transferability, and access to our programs and services across the state. ◦ Certify student competencies and capabilities, expand pathways to accelerate degree completion through credit for prior learning, and foster the award of competency-based credit and degrees. ◦ Expand the innovative use of technology to deliver high quality online courses, strengthen classroom instruction and student services, and provide more individualized learning and advising. ◦ Work together under new models to be the preferred provider of comprehensive workplace solutions… ◦ Redesign our financial and administrative models to reward collaboration, drive efficiencies, and strengthen our ability to provide an extraordinary education for all Minnesotans.   • 3.  Creation of the “implementation process;” ◦ Contract with McKinsey  Controversy ◦ 8 implementation teams created through the McKinsey designed process.  Student success, Diversity, Comprehensive Workplace Solutions, Academic Planning, System Incentives and Rewards, Credit for Prior Learning, Education Technology, and Information Technology Systems and Design ◦ Team composition  Students, faculty, campus staff, and administrators  Lead by a college or university president (except one) Next Step
  • 4.  As teams were meeting……. ◦ Faculty (MSCF and IFO) decided to no longer participate in the process.  Each cited different reasons ◦ Controversy erupted in the media  Several news stories throughout the fall ◦ Then Governor Dayton got involved….  “Get along, or else…” Next….
  • 5.  “Everyone” started getting along….kind of…. ◦ Faculty and Board of Trustees Agreement  Campus and Regional Process  Current CTF teams had to end by June 30th  Nothing in the agreement stopped current work from going forward ◦ MSCSA Platform Motion  September deadline ◦ This agreement was “adopted” and has been the new roadmap for CTF.
