Homosexuality theology
1.
2. Homosexuality is romantic
attraction, sexual attraction or sexual
behavior between members of the
same sex or gender.
It also refers to an individual's sense of
personal and social identity based on
those attractions, behaviors expressing
them, and membership in a community
of others who share them.
3.
4. The rejection of homosexual behavior that is
found in the Old Testament is well known. In
Genesis 19, two angels in disguise visit the
city of Sodom and are offered hospitality
and shelter by Lot. During the night, the
men of Sodom demand that Lot hand over
his guests for homosexual intercourse. Lot
refuses, and the angels blind the men of
Sodom. Lot and his household escape, and
the town is destroyed by fire "because the
outcry against its people has become great
before the Lord" (Gen. 19:13).
5. God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their
women exchanged natural relations for unnatural
ones. In the same way the men also abandoned
natural relations with women and were inflamed
with lust for one another. Men committed indecent
acts with other men, and received in themselves
the due penalty for their perversion.
-Homosexual desires are unnatural.
6. In the beginning the Creator made them
male and female. For this reason, a man will
leave his father and mother and be united
to his wife, and the two will become one
flesh.
- All sexual sins are sins because they do
not conform to the limit of sex being
a marital activity.
7. 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with
womankind: it is abomination.
20:13 "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth
with a woman, both of them have committed an
abomination: they shall surely be put to death;
their blood shall be upon them.“
-The two verses have historically been interpreted by Jews and
Christians as clear blanket prohibitions against homosexual acts.
- As further evidence of the sinful nature of homosexuality
-both describe homosexuality as “an abomination.”
8. Genesis chapter 19
the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah
are stated to have been "giving
themselves over to fornication, and
going after strange flesh, "which may
refer to homosexuality or to the lust of
mortals after angels.

10. The Catholic Church does not condemn
homosexuality as sinful per se but states that homosexual
inclinations are "intrinsically disordered“.
The Church does however consider "homosexual acts" as
"contrary to the natural law" and that "under no
circumstances can [homosexual acts] be approved."
The Eastern Orthodox churches, like the Catholic Church,
condemns only homosexual acts. All Orthodox
jurisdictions, such as the Orthodox Church in America,
have taken the approach of welcoming people with
"homosexual feelings and emotions," while encouraging
them to work towards "overcoming its harmful effects in
their lives," and not allowing the sacraments to people
who seek to justify homosexual activity.
The Catholic Church views as sinful any sexual act not
related to procreation by couple joined under the
Sacrament of Matrimony.
11. Homosexuality and the Ordained Ministry
the Catholic Church, have confirmed the teaching of the
Church on homosexuality. The Catechism distinguishes
between homosexual acts and homosexual tendencies.
Regarding acts, it teaches that Sacred Scripture presents
them as grave sins. The Tradition has constantly considered
them as intrinsically immoral and contrary to the natural law.
Consequently, under no circumstance can they be
approved.
Deep-seated homosexual tendencies, which are found in a
number of men and women, are also objectively disordered
and, for those same people, often constitute a trial. Such
persons must be accepted with respect and sensitivity. Every
sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided.
They are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and to unite to
the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may
encounter.
12. Pope Francis reaffirm the importance of sex
between a man and a woman in a clear
sign that the Catholic Church's tough
stance on gay marriage remains unbowed.
-It is his first clear statement that marriage
should be for a man and woman.

15. The Philippines is a predominantly
Christian country, with the majority being
Roman Catholic followed by other
Christian denominations and a large
Muslim minority. Like many judeo-
christian religions it contains anti-
homosexual teachings.
16. The Catholic Bishops Conference of the
Philippines has always been against gay
rights
The homosexual community in the
Philippines is evident in Media, Fashion and
the arts.
On 3 March 2009, the Philippines
announced that it was lifting its ban on
allowing openly gay and bisexual men and
women from enlisting and serving in the
Philippine Armed Services.
17. Philippine political parties are typically very cautious
about supporting gay rights, as most fall along the
social conservative political spectrum.
The Akbayan Citizens' Action Party was the first
Philippine political party to integrate LGBT rights into
its party platform in the 1990s, although they are a
minor political party.
Rodolfo Biazon and his son Ruffy Biazon along
with Miriam Santiago are the most vocal opponents
of same sex marriage in the Philippines. They have
filed bills in the Senate and Congress in 2006 that
would ban recognition of such marriage, even if
those marriages were performed in other countries.
As of 2009 the bills are stalled.
18. The Ang Ladlad is a new progressive
political party, with a primary agenda of
combating discrimination and
harassment on the basis of sexual
orientation or gender identity.
The Philippines does not offer any legal
recognition to same-sex marriage, civil
unions or domestic partnership benefits.
19. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights
in the United Kingdom
-have evolved dramatically over time though still vary
slightly by jurisdiction in the four countries of the UK.
-Before and during the formation of the
UK, Christianity and homosexuality clashed. Same-sex
sexual activity was characterised as sinful and, under
the Buggery Act 1533, was outlawed and punishable
by death.
- LGBT rights first came to prominence following the
decrimination of same-sex sexual activity across the
UK between 1967 and 1982.
20. WASHINGTON — The Obama administration on
Wednesday escalated its effort to dismantle federal
barriers to same-sex marriages, announcing that the
Department of Veterans Affairs would immediately
begin providing spousal benefits to gay men and
lesbians despite a federal statue that limits such
benefits to veterans’ spouses who are “of the
opposite sex.”
-The move will allow the same-sex spouses of service
members to receive health care benefits, and
widows and widowers from same-sex marriages to
receive survivor benefits, among other matters.
