2. Pradhan Mantri (PM) Schools for
Rising India (SRI/SHRI) Scheme
Short Form: PM-SHRI Scheme
Nature of scheme: Centrally sponsored
The aim of PM-SHRI schools will be
Implementing qualitative teaching, learning, and
cognitive development (Curriculum planning and
pedagogy as tools)
Creating holistic, and well-rounded individuals
equipped with key 21st century skills (digital
literacy, visual literacy, soft skills, life skills,
linguistically sound communication skills)
3. AIMING AT SHOWCASING NEP-
2020
PM-SHRI scheme aims to build model schools under
the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 :
To impart high-quality education in an equitable, inclusive
and joyful school environment with effective curriculum
planning and pedagogically sound transaction of classroom
processes
To bolster up school facilities and equipping schools with
modern infrastructure, latest learning tools and technology,
smart classrooms, libraries, art-craft room, science and
computer labs, resource rooms, sports facilities etc.
To function as as green schools with naturally farmed
nutrition gardens, water harvesting and conservation, solar
panels, waste recycling, energy-efficient infrastructure and
integration of organic lifestyle in curriculum
To create links with industry and community for employable
skills based additional courses
4. PM-SHRI School Coverage
14500 existing schools managed by Central
Government/ State/ UT Government/ local bodies
across the country will be converted to PM-SHRI
Schools
Budget: Rs.27,360 crore for the scheme
Sharing of budget
Central share: 60 percent of.
State/ UT share 40 percent
Special provisions
For the regions like Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand,
Jammu and Kashmir and the North-East, the central
share can go up to 90 percent
5. Significance
Showcasing all components of the National Education Policy
2020 as “NEP labs” or 'model schools' to encapsulate the full
spirit of NEP
Working as exemplar/ lead schools and also offer mentorship
to other schools in their vicinity.
Ensuring quality education through School Quality
Assessment Framework (SQAF) based school supervision
and external evaluation by involving experts and community
members
Mentoring and school evaluation involving experts as well as
State, KVS and JNV officials
Catering for internships by collaborating with Sector Skill
Councils and local industry
Legal literacy regarding Right to Education and inclusion of
children with special needs
6. NEP-Demonstration
As per the vision of NEP 2020, PM-SHRI Schools will
deliver excellent education in a holistic environment.
The curricular module will focus on the diverse
background, multilingual needs and different
academic abilities of children and participants.
Model schools mentor other existing schools in
respective regions to spread the NEP Policy at a
larger level.
Regular Assessment of the resources available and
their effective use
The parameters of school evaluation will be on the
basis of availability, adequacy, appropriateness, and
execution of resources.
7. Pedagogy
Experiential, holistic, art/ culture integrated learning
Play/toy-based, activity based, inquiry-driven, discovery-
oriented, learner-centred, concept attainment, discussion-
based, flexible and enjoyable.
School-based special learning modules or packages to be
developed by team of teachers, qualified mentors and local
artisans/ artists/ performers for co-curricular activities.
The study module will focus on the diverse background,
multilingual needs and different academic abilities of children and
participants.
