- Local communications programs should be designed to ensure consistent communications when connecting with association members. Engaging the community, education stakeholders, and the media should also be taken into consideration when planning your communications program.
- Internal Communications Internal communications are communications that take place within the association and consist of written materials like newsletters, training materials, or member manuals. A “members-only” site is oftentimes used to distribute information that is restricted to only members of the organization; this type of web area is password restricted. External Communications External communications disseminate content to those outside of the organization like the public and other education stakeholders. This type of communication is typically achieved through a website, news release, letter to the editor, social media post, and in some cases, flyers. External communications also consist of speaking engagements and special events and in some cases, may include marketing and advertising. The most important element of external communications is interfacing with the press.
