Dear Judges:
My name is Jake Kirby. I am very passionate about music. I play acoustic, electric, and
bass guitar. I enjoy exercising and being active despite having mild asthma. My goals
include going to college to major in Marketing and a minor in music production, starting
or being in a well-known rock band, and running my own recording studio. For my senior
project I learned how to become a studio engineer in a recording studio.
My product is a song I recorded of the local band Anonymous. My research I did on
recording showed I would need to learn many new applications using the computer,
microphones, and a variety of other complicated machinery. The research paper gave me
an overview of all the applications I would need to learn and use, and my project
facilitator then taught me how to use of the equipment. I learned this skill effectively and
easily because of my background in guitar playing and love for instruments. The main
obstacle that was in the way of learning this skill was the time and experience needed in
the studio to get the best sound of each instrument.
By learning to be a studio engineer I opened up a career path that most people go to
college for.I learned that when I put time and effort into learning a new skill I can achieve
the goal. I would definitely consider this as a career after college or if I can get a job right
out of high school I will pursue this and have fun with it as well.
The senior project pushed me to pursue something I normally would not have a chance to
do. I was able to learn a new skill that I always wanted to learn but never had a reason or
chance to. Thank you for reading this and I hope you enjoy my presentation.
