Breach Game Design Document
High Concept
The year is 2117, mankind has made a breakthrough in the form of a new element on the periodic table
given the name Excidiem. After preliminary testing of the element it was shown to be the perfect
candidate for a clean energy source, mankind’s new fuel. An experimental Excidiem reactor was
constructed and soon after completed with help from a coalition of scientists and contractors. The day
came when the reactor was brought online. No one could have predicted what happened next. The
Excidiem became unstable, impure and with it began to multiply at an alarming rate, turning whatever it
touched into part of itself, part of the hive.
That was 6 years ago, it’s now 2123 and mankind now abandons a planet covered in Excidiem life forms.
After the reactor meltdown it was found that Excidiem is only controllable in zero gravity with the help
of the absolute isolation system (A.I.S.) to guard against impurities that might enter the Excidiem power
core. As the defensive AI for the Excidiem core this task falls to you.

Gameplay
The game begins within a sterile white sphere with rails lining each axis with a cube in the middle made
of several smaller cubes. The massive center cube floats within the center and houses a sphere within
that must be protected at all costs. Enemies will appear within the sphere and by pressing the 1-6 keys
the player may move along the rails going from side to side protecting the cube that houses the
Excidiem core. In addition to moving the left mouse button may be used to fire the quantum laser
turret and the right mouse may be used to freeze enemies in position. Powerups will appear during the
defense of the Excidiem core that may be used with the Z key or cycled through using the W & S keys.
Level progression will occur every few minutes the core is kept intact until the Excidiem within becomes
unstable, and explodes. In addition to temporary powerups new weapons may be awarded to the
player based on certain achievements in the form of defeating so many of a certain enemy type or using
certain powerups so many times. These turret modifications will be interchangeable using the A or D
keys to cycle through them.

Player Objective
Primary objective: Protect the Excidiem core for as long as possible.
• Tutorial 1: Movement training
• Tutorial 2: Fire training
• Tutorial 3: Temporal hold
Core Gameplay Mechanics

• Stationary position with camera switching ability

• Illusions (certain types)
• High defense (certain types)
• High speed (certain types)
Camera
The camera will be a first person view through the camera lens of an A.I.S turret used for defending the
Excidiem core.
Controls
Breach will mainly feature keyboard controls but can also be mapped to an Xbox 360 controller. When
using the keyboard the HUD will show the numbers 1-6 representing the sides. When using a controller
the HUD will show a small cube. When under attack the numbers will blink or the side will blink within
the HUD to help the player pinpoint attacks.

Items
Collectible items the player can use are divided into two categories. Upgrades automatically become
available under certain conditions and can be used from then onward. Power-ups are one time use
abilities that appear randomly and will not have a chance at reappearing until they are used.
