Organisations, including those in post-16 education face a challenge to engage people whether they are potential or actual learners and students, staff or wider communities. They need to do this to improve recruitment and retention, make themselves more efficient and effective, and to raise their profile. Within organisations, individual teachers, academics and other professionals seek to engage people in their courses and services, for similar reasons. Social media presents new opportunities for engagement as well as a number of challenges. This workshop will look at new ways to build relationships through social media, why they are important, and how they may be used in a post-16 education setting, whether you are from FE, learning and skills or Higher Education. This presentation draws on experience of Jisc staff in exploring social media engagement with customers in a variety of sectors.
