2. Most parents will gladly spend their money and time to buy clothes,
food and medicine for us and toys to make us happy when we were kids.
When we grow, they try to provide us with a good education and a
loving home. As we know Parents feel very happy if we are kind, polite,
helpful and obedient. If we are rude, disobedient or lazy, they would
feel disappointed and even embarrassed. After all, the way we behaves
reflects on our parents.
Your Lord has decreed that you worship nothing but Him, and that you
be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in your
life, say not to them a word for contempt, nor repel them but address
them in terms of honor. And, out of kindness, lower to them wing of
humility, and say: My Lord! Bestow on them Your mercy, even as they
cherised me in childhood.
(Al-Isra' 17:23-14)
3. Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 5120 Narrated by Mu'awiyah ibn Hayadah
I asked: 'O Messenger of Allah(saws)! To whom should I show kindness most?' He
(saws) replied: 'Your mother.' I asked (again): 'Who next?'. He (saws) replied: 'Your
mother!'. I asked: 'Who next?' He (saws) replied: 'Your mother!' I asked again: 'Who
next?' and he (saws) replied: 'Your father, and then your relatives in order of
relationship.’
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 4939 Narrated by Mu'awiyah ibn Jahimah
Jahimah came to the Prophet (saws) and said, "Messenger of Allah (saws), I desire to
go on a military expedition and I have come to consult you. He (saws) asked him if
he had a mother, and when he replied that he had, he (saws) said, "Stay with her, for
Paradise is at her feet.”
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.290 Narrated by Abu Bakra
Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "Shall I inform you of the biggest of the Great Sins?"
They said, "Yes, O Allah's Messenger (saws)!" He (saws) said, "To join partners in
worship with Allah, and to be undutiful to one's parents."
4. If our parents ask us to do something which Allah has forbidden, we should obey
Allah over the order of our parents. However, we should respectfully explain to
our parents the reasons for our disobedience. If our parents are not Muslims,
Prophet Mohamed (saws) taught us to be kind and respectful to them. We
should take care of them and continue to explain Islam to them.
5. In every one of our home, there are many chores that we need to do. When we come
home from school, we should help our parents before going off to play. Tidying up,
washing clothes, and mowing the lawn are a few ways we can help our parents. By
offering our help, we show them how much we love and respect them.
We should do our best to obey our parents. Also we should not argue with our
parents, refuse to help them, or make a fuss over every small matter. If we are asked
to do the vacuuming, or do homework, we should try to do so as soon possible.
Respecting our parents' wishes is another way we can show our parents we love
them and obey Allah (One stone two birds).
