1. Narrative Report on International Training
and Virtual Workshop on Blended Learning
by Hark Herald C. Sarmiento
The webinar, which has born the theme “The Students’ Reaction on Blended Learning,”
started by defining terms that are related to blended learning (BL). The pedagogical theories and
teaching approaches that relate to blended learning were emphasized. Some of the theories covered
were constructivism, social constructivism, and problem-based learning approach.
There was also a discussion highlighting the role of virtual learning environments (VLES)
and their use towards an effective implementation of blended learning. Various platforms were
exemplified during the discussions and their salient features.
The third lecture revolved around the definitions of blended learning and the impact of
digital technology among teachers and students alike.
The benefits of BL were also highlighted in the fourth lecture by Dr. Edwin Ferrer. He
emphasized that blended learning fosters collaboration by utilizing discussion forums,
synchronous collaborative sessions, and social media platforms.
Finally, in the fifth lecture, the assessment process pertaining to blended learning is
reiterated. The role of the Daddie Model in Planning and Evaluating Blended Learning was
discussed by Prof. Rodney Paul Davis which gave emphasis on the importance of preparation and
strategic goal setting when it comes to BL implementation.
Overall, the objectives of identifying BL technologies and learning a variety of BL
approaches most suitable to the participants’ respective contexts and experiences were achieved.
