1. Urban Hunters
Characters
This is Billy. He’s an Aboriginal boy from
the Australian bush. He has to go
Walkabout to the big city of Sydney to
find some girls. The thing is, he’s never
even seen a girl before and all he’s got to
wear is a loincloth. Awkward!

2. This is Amber. She’s Billy’s polar opposite,
being a blue-eyed blonde from the city.
Billy finds her cold, wet and upset down a
darkened alley in the city wearing nothing
more than a bloodied pair of pink pyjamas.
We don’t know any more about Amber at this
stage, but it’s safe to assume that she’s run
away from home.
3. Life was far from easy for Billy. The scars
on his chest were a gift from his mother.
Thoughtful like that she is.
Don’t worry, you won’t miss anything,
you’ll experience every gruesome detail
in “TRIBAL SCARRING.” Hehehe
Do you like his necklace? I’d really like to
tell you more about it but I couldn’t
possible spoil the moment when Amber
is checking it out. I had tears running
down my face writing it.
“BUDGIE SMUGGLERS.” Too funny.
4. This is Billy’s returning boomerang. It flies left because he’s right
handed. He also carries a heavy, non-returning boomerang that he
uses like a flying club.
5. This is Billy’s knife. He chipped it himself from an amethyst crystal
and made the handle from the leg of a wombat.
6. How cool is Billy’s hat?
It’s made from the
head of a big red
kangaroo. The biggest
his great-grandfather
Cobar had ever seen.
His father, Mandu,
turned it into a hat as
a gift for his
initiations.
That’s his hardwood
spear you can see too,
along with his
woomera.
You can’t see his
favourite weapon but
you’ll be reading
about it in the series.
7.
8. This is Moe. He’s one of three brothers:
Larry, Curly and Moe. They’re nearly
impossible to tell apart.
Barely bigger than a Chihuahua and built
like a finely tuned sprint athlete, they’d
race you to the finish line and tear your
toes off along the way if you weren’t
careful.
Not everyone thinks they’re adorable, a
greasy, grey-haired, mongrel old man
wants them dead.
9. This is Larry.
He’s the leader of the gang.
Where’s Curly?
He’s in this picture but you can’t see
him. He’s in his favourite spot. Do you
know where that is?
10. This is Diesel. He’s the son of a mongrel
old man that Billy speared. He wants
revenge and he knows where Billy is.
“BULLIES” is an edge of your seat episode
with an ending that will leave you
gobsmacked, right before you lose your
load laughing your guts out.

14. It’s not until book 4 that we finally get a
gander at Billy’s face in “BUDGIE
SMUGGLERS.” Handsome devil isn’t he?
But of course now we have to wonder
what Amber looks like. For now, she’s all
yours. Imagine her any way you will. A
little button nose or a horribly big
honker. Gleaming white teeth or bent
yellow buckies. Perhaps you’d like her to
have a freckle or two, or maybe a cute
little mole in just the right spot? One
eyebrow or two? It’s up to you.
15. One of Billy’s other weapons is
visible in this picture too, his
fishing line. He loves fishing, or at
least he used to, until he saw how
big the fish were in Sydney
harbour (BUDGIE SMUGGLERS).
Can you see his loincloth? He
wears it over his shorts. Not sure
if it’s a case of old habits die hard
or it’s now more of a tool belt
than anything. He’s always tucked
his boomerangs and knife into the
cord.
He was excited about his new
shorts. The zipper and press-studs
fascinated him. It’s easy to forget
that basically, he’s stepped
straight out of the stone age.
Everything is new to him.
Especially girls. He particularly
likes the ones in bikinis.

22. The URBAN HUNTERS Series
Life was normal for Billy, living hidden in the bush with the last of his kind. Until the
spirit of his mother told him in a dream to go Walkabout where the whitefellas live.
Find some girls or watch his clan of men die out, ending the Dreamtime forever.
He may well have stayed in bed if he’d known what lay ahead: the fight of his life
against wildlife, torturous initiations to become a man at only 13, and Sydney, a
strange place that may well kill an Aboriginal boy in a loincloth. Could life get anymore
difficult? Why yes it could, he could fall in love with a beautiful, blue–eyed, city girl …
Suffering similar tragedies a world apart and forced to grow up before their time, Billy
and Amber must find a new future, one beyond anything either of them could ever
have imagined.
23. Before Billy’s search for girls begins, he
must first survive his older brother’s
sickening game with a sun–bloated dead
kangaroo. A twisted tale of cat and
mouse explodes with sweet biscuits, a
flooded cave crawling with bats and a
challenge to retrieve a crystal. Can Billy
pull off the impossible and earn his
brother’s respect?
24. Before Billy’s search for girls begins he
must become a man. He fights for his
life against wildlife, endures initiation
with the slice of a knife where a boy
never wants a knife to go, and burns
under the coals of a fire for his Tribal
Scarring. Will the man emerge?
25. Billy’s search for girls begins, if only he
knew what one looked like.
The city turns out to be a dangerous
place for a boy from the bush and with
lives at stake, Billy’s forced to call upon
his ancestors for help.
A beautiful blue–eyed city girl appears
before him down a darkened alley. But
all is not well — Amber’s covered in
blood and mud and stained in tears.
How will she react to a near naked
Aboriginal boy wearing a dead kangaroo
for a hat?

27. Billy’s found a girl but can he keep her?
How will Amber feel about a fat rump of
rat for dinner, or Billy in a bikini? And
how will she react to his daring attempt
at a comforting hug? Poor Billy hasn’t
got a clue.
And what is to become of Larry, Curly
and Moe after making a meal of a dying
man?
28. Billy speared a mongrel old man in the
leg and now his son wants revenge. He’s
big, he’s dangerous and he knows where
Billy is. How can two kids and three
pups possibly defend themselves against
such a massive man?

29. Gary Taaffe
Gary lives in a small coastal town in NSW, Australia. There’s open
ocean on one side, a massive saltwater lake on the other and
enough virgin bushland in the surrounding areas to lose yourself
for a week.
When he’s not writing, Gary’s hunting deer for the freezer or putting around the lake
fishing for flathead.
He’s a Toolmaker by trade, a successful inventor and now, a writer. Urban Hunters is the
culmination of his inventiveness, his enthusiasm for the outdoors and his fun–filled sense
of humour.
