4-H groups in Goodhue County, Minnesota are invited to volunteer as "gleaning crews" to pick leftover produce from gardens and orchards and donate it to local food shelves from spring through fall 2009. Gleaning involves organized outings where volunteers harvest extra crops to provide food for the hungry. Produce can also be donated directly to one of several area food shelves. The program is part of a national "Plant a Row for the Hungry" initiative. Those interested can contact their local food shelf or the University of Minnesota Extension Office for more details.
