2. The heart is one of the most important
organs in the human being because it is
the organ which pumps blood to the
lungs and to the rest of the body.
3. The right side takes in blood
from the body and pumps it to
the lungs. The left side takes
blood filled with oxygen from
the lungs and pumps it to the
rest of the body.
4. The heart is made of a special kind of
muscle called “cardiac muscle” which
never gets tired.
A child’s heart beats about 80 times a
minute, a bit faster that an adult’s
heart (70 times a minute). When you
run or do something exciting your
heart beat faster because your
muscles need more blood.

clenched fist located nearly in the
middle of your chest.

7. WHY IS BLOOD RED?
It is red because each drop of blood contains
a substance called hemoglobin that give
blood red color.
HOW MUCH BLOOD DO YOU HAVE?
A man has 5-6 liters of blood and a woman
has about 4-5 liter of blood. Children haves
less.

GROUPS?
There are 4 main groups of
blood: A-B-AB and O. Only
some groups can be mixed
with others.
WHAT IS A BLOOD
TRANSFUSION?
It is a very common
mechanism used in hospitals
and other places to replace
lost blood.
9. Other components of blood are plasma and
white blood cells. Over half the blood is a
yellowish liquid called plasma. It is mainly
water with molecules of digested food.
o White blood cells are
cells which destroy
germs and other
intruders.
