Week Beginning Work Completed
Summer Holidays N/A
10th September This was the introduction to my AS course and I started to create my
WordPress account and created the pages and what was to be
included in them.
21st September I started to look at different theories including Katz, Maslow and
Hartley. An then I linked these to my magazine and chose which
magazine would be my chosen one.
1st October To find out who my target audience was I created a questionnaire so
then I would be able to see what codes and conventions would attract
them to my magazine. I then completed my hand drawn draft for my
preliminary task and music magazine so I would have an idea of what
they would look like.
9th October I have started and nearly completed my preliminary task both front
cover and contents page. I made sure all the codes and conventions in
the chosen magazine (Billboard) were then put into the preliminary
task.
17th October I had to finish my preliminary task in the first week, which I did and I
only had to make a few changes to make it look more professional and
realistic.
31st October I then went to the hand drawn drafts that I had completed previously
to add any codes and conventions that I had included in the school
front cover and contents page that I didn’t include in the plan. I then
looked at the front cover drawn draft that I previously drew and then
started to create it on Photoshop.
2. Half Term N/A
6th November To start off my music magazine front cover I included all of the codes
and conventions or made space for them to go. This then gave me an
idea of where everything would go. I had already taken all of the
photos that I would put onto the front cover but hadn’t added them to
the front cover yet as I wanted to get all of the writing done first or
know where everything was going.
10th November I then began to look my different magazines of inspiration but mostly
looked at Billboard to get and idea of the cover stories and where
certain codes and conventions would go. This helped me determine
which codes and conventions should go onto my music magazine while
looking at the Billboard magazines I had researched.
20th November When I decided where the codes and conventions were going I then
added my masthead (Starz) and then added in my main image which
took a while to position and which photo I was going to use. I edited
the image so the background wasn’t there and this was because main
images from Billboard magazine didn’t have background either and it
looked more professional.
4th December I had finished my front cover and then began looking at my contents
page and how I was going to set it out. I copied the masthead onto the
contents page and then included the blue lines onto the contents page
so then I would know where certain aspects would go.
12th December I came up with all of my cover stories and placed these on my contents
page and added the page numbers. I then added my editorial onto the
contents page and took the picture of myself to go onto the contents
page which was a mid shot. When creating my editorial I looked at
various magazines to see what information was included.
17th December After I had included all of the writing that was needed on the contents
page I added the pictures that I wanted to add for the cover stories to
give better understanding to readers. After a week I had nearly
completed my contents page and only needed to add a few small
aspects.
Christmas Holidays N/A
3. 8th January I went back to contents page to add the social networking sites onto it
and I also added borders around the cover line pictures to make them
stand out more. I was writing about the readers subscribing which
would then build a personal relationship with the readers (Katz).
16th January After I had added the final touches to the contents page I then started
the double page spread. I used the lines again as guidance to make
sure everything was aligned and then this would make it look more
professional.
23rd January I created my interview but wrote it on Microsoft Word so then I would
be able to spell check everything before I transferred it onto the
double page spread. I looked at Billboard magazines interview and
took some inspiration with the questions that I included in my
interview. I also used new questions to make my magazine different
from others. I then added different colours for the interviewer and
interviewee so then it would be clearer for the readers.
7th February I had to read through my interview a few times to make sure that
everything made sense and everything that I had written was needed.
I then added the image in and started to use the quick selection tool to
get rid of the background but then changed the picture overall as I
didn’t think it was professional looking to be in my magazine. I then
took a whole new picture and used this one but kept the background
on it.
26th February I added the name of the interviewee because the then this would then
make readers know who the interview is on. I then added the
interview in using columns because most magazines that I looked at
used columns so I used this in my magazine to make it look like other
magazines and not original. At the top of the double page spread I
included Starz Interviews in the same font as the masthead so then
there was repetition through my magazine.
10th March I added all the small aspects to my double page spread. This was
including the social networking sites and I added a section of writing
which informed readers on how they could access the full interview
and how they could find it. This was done in other magazines that I
had looked at which made me add this to my magazine.
4. When adding the quotes onto the page I added a box around it and
added a black outline around them so then they stood out. I made the
writing all the same.
19th March After I had finished all of my pages for my magazines I then started my
evaluation using PowerPoint. There were 7 questions that I needed to
complete and they were to do with the process into completing my
music magazine. All of the questions were answered in a lot of detail
and this then showed how I got to the completion of my work.
22nd March When I had finished the questions I then had to fill out the
photography planning that I had undertaken when working through my
music magazine. I explained what different pictures I took and why I
chose them particular ones for the different pages of my magazines.
After I had done this and finished my evaluation I then collected my
audience feedback and I did this by asking my target audience what
they liked and disliked about my front cover, contents page and double
page spread.
27th March After I had completed everything I then began to add everything onto
my blog on WordPress.
