3.  1930’s USSR established as military power
 1933 – Adolf Hitler rised as Chancellor in Germany
 1939 – Germany’s remilitarization
 1936 – reclaimed the Rhineland from French control
 1938 – Austria was annexed to the Nazi Reich
 1938 – Germany took over the Czech Sudetenland
 1939 – Bohemia and Moravia

4.  German demand the return of Danzig and part of the
Polish ‘corridor’ granted to Poland from German
territory in the Versailles Treaty of 1919.
 Poland refused, on 1 September 1939 German forces
launched the Polish campaign and Poland was
defeated in three weeks.
 In March 1939 Britain and France restablished Polish
sovereignty. German forces withdraw.
 3 September Britain and Francedeclared war on
Germany.
