Given the dependency of Nigeria’s economy
on climate-sensitive industries such as
agriculture, forestry, oil, and gas extraction,
climate change inaction could cost Nigeria
between 6%–30% by 2050, equivalent to a
loss of US$100–460 billion.
Climate Crisis
Nigeria is ranked 44th Greenhouse Gas
emitter out of 200 Countries globally and
3rd highest GHG emitter in Africa.
FOOTPRINT OF CLIMATE-CHANGE EFFECTS
27 - 53 million people representing 26.5%
of Nigeria's Population may relocate due
to 0.5 meter Sea level.
In 2012, the floods caused nearly $17
billion in damages and losses in the 12
most-affected states.
Fish catches on the Coast of West Africa
are expected to drop by as much as 50%
by 2050 due to the rising ocean
temperatures.
2021 Notre Dame Global Adaptation Index ranks Nigeria as the 53rd most-vulnerable country and the 6th
least-ready country in the world to adapt to climate change.
Climate change exacerbates health-
related respiratory infection; 30% (746,200)
of all pneumonia death. Out of which, 40%
(304,200) are among children under 5
years of age.

Can Technology Solve the Problem?
Increase in number of digital solutions can reduce global
emissions by 20%.
How much more could have been done as a Nation if
investment flows had been more into climate-tech?
What will be the future action plan if not technologies to
meet the target of net-zero?
Climate technologies is the key antidote to tackle the
climate change as it has a significant impact in the
decarbonization of global economy.

6. Africa will need investments of over $3
trillion in mitigation and adaptation by
2030 in order to implement its NDCs.
The investment in Climate tech
innovation grow by US$87.5bn
in H2 2020 and H1 2021. Representing
210% increase from the US$28.4bn
invested in the twelve months prior.

The Facts
Cannot be Ignored.
Carbon captured acts like the sharpest
knife, removing 90-99% of CO2 emissions
from industrial facilities. (MIT, 2021).
Mobility and Transport remains the most
heavily invested challenge area, raising
US$58bn, and tech-innovation under
transport sector has contirubted to
emissions redution of 60% of Global
Transport sector
Five groups of innovation in the
energy sector, carbon captured,
agriculture, and so on, could attract
$2 trillion of capital by 2025 and
abate 40% of GHG emissions by
2050. (McKinsey, 2022).
