Professional associations are established with the following aims and objectives:
 Herald the library movement in a country/globe
 Spread knowledge and information
 Human resource development;
 Enactment of public library legislation,
 Make the people library conscious so that they demand the right of access to public library services;
 Attention of the authorities towards deficiencies, defects, etc., in the existing library infrastructure;
 Provide a common forum for library professionals for exchange of information, ideas;

 Betterment of salaries, grades, service conditions; status, etc. of library professionals;
 Hold high the image of the library profession in society;
