2. The Black Lives Matter Network advocates
for dignity, justice and respect
• Black Lives Matter has remained a
consistently peaceful protest force
that has successfully brought police
brutality and racial inequality of the
criminal justice system to the
forefront of mainstream politics.
Yet as the movement gains more
traction, pundits and politicians
have demanded that it take
responsibility for and denounce all
acts of violence against police
officers (Miller, 2016).
What is the Black Lives Matter
Movement?

4. • Across America, daily incidents occur and minority victims rarely
receive justice, especially against the police.
• More black Americans are killed by cops than any other race. Police
shoot and kill blacks almost twice as frequently as any other racial
group as well (“Here’s the data,” 2014).
• The CDC’s cause-of-death data, based on death certificates collected
at the state level, reveal a profound racial disparity among victims of
police shootings. Between 1968 and 2011, black people were
between 2 to 8 times more likely to die at the hands of law
enforcement than whites. The CDC’s database of emergency room
records also shows similar racial disparities among those injured by
the police (Shen, 2015).
Statistics
6. There are those who believe
Black Lives Matter is a terrorist
group (Edwards, 2016).
“They're not protesters.
These are thugs. They're
rioters. And yeah, I'm calling
out the media, saying quit
calling out the media, saying
quit claiming that these rioters
are peaceful." And she pinned
blame on the President
elected in 2008, saying: "It is
part of that fundamental
transformation of America that
Barack Obama has promised to
do to America.” - Sarah Palin
"The first time I heard it (Black Lives Matter), I said, 'You have to be kidding'," Trump added. "I think it's a
very, very, very divisive term. There's no question about it."
It's not the first time. Trump told a rally last fall that a Black Lives Matter protester "should have been roughed
up“ (Frye, 2016).
On the Contrary….

8. Rodney King was beaten, but it was called “The
Swarm Technique.”
Oscar Grant was handcuffed, and still shot in the back.
Alton Sterling was held down on the ground and was
still shot 3 times.
Philando Castile was trying to reach his identification
and permit to carry a firearm and was killed.
Blacks are being killed left and right. So we have to
ask, Do Black Lives Matter? We are told to, “Comply,”
but The Hands Up, Don’t Shoot Movement isn’t
working
9. Do Black Lives Matter? We are being killed off and no one seems to bat an eye, but when
we march in mass as a unit we are called terrorists. We are tired of seeing the deaths of
our people when the outcomes could have been different. During slavery we were
considered property. After the civil war we were given our freedom, but we weren’t
considered equal. Jim Crow laws quickly became the norm, then we marched for our Civil
rights and equality. Now we are being killed for incidents that are trivial, and the loss of
our lives do not seem to matter. To say they are a terrorist group, one would have to agree
that in all the situations surrounding the cause that the black lives lost were all
antagonists in their own deaths-that if they somehow complied with the officers they
would still be alive. I think this displays a totalitarianism way of thinking (Rosenstand,
2012). To assume these people did something wrong in every occurrence is ludicrous,
especially when there are incidents of the same nature with a different outcome in cases
of Caucasians assailants. Where do we go from here? What would you do if you were in
this situation? Why aren’t hate groups such as the KKK considered terrorists? Do black
lives REALLY matter?
