creative?
Any issues encountered?
IMovie
Selection of Moving
Images and Dragging &
Dropping
When constructing our media
product, we used a special
software for editing and that was
iMovie. HavingneverusedIMovie
beforehand, I can honestly say I
had a smoothtransitioninlearning
how to operate the key tools. For
instance, when ordering the
moving images into a sequence
(scene), you merely had to select
the clip and drag with your mouse
to the desired location. Similarly,
IMovie enabledme toinsertmusic,
transitions between shots, titles
andcrop outsecondsof ashotthat
I no longer desired.
1. An issue Ifacedduringthe editing
processoniMovie wasthat sound
clips would expand over certain
footage andcontract overothers.
2. A disadvantage of this software
was the limited number of fonts
and transitions available. The
opening credits for our film was
intertwined in an ongoing scene
and sothe fontwe usedhadto be
ideal. But due to the limited
availability of fonts, the title was
changed several times due to
inadequacy.
3. This brings me onto the third
problem I had whilst using this
software. I recognised that their
availabilityof transitionsbetween
shots/scene were restrictive.Isay
this because they only had your
standard ‘dissolves’, ‘fade to
black’, ‘wipe up/down’ OR the
comical ‘ripple’ effect, ‘puzzle
‘effect etc.

handy for my teammates and I
when we were shooting the
exterior shot of the protagonist
returning from the supermarket.
We wanted to make sure our
moving subject remained sharp
throughout that particular shot;
and so, by focusingthe camerawe
achieved a professional shot.
1. One issue I encounteredwith this
device wasrelatingto lighting.For
instance, during filming of the
bathroom scene – In particular,
the low-angled shot of the
protagonist cleaning the bath-
tub- we had several takesof that,
sot which were all unattainable
due to the issue of back-lighting.
Adobe InDesign
Adobe InDesign was
useful in our ‘Film
Review’ production;
especially in relation to
the organisation of text
and images.
This programme was effective
when it came to aiding our layout
for the review article. Before our
final piece, we had created drafts
using this software and doing so
enabled us to view just how much
space we had to work with-
consideringthe amountof textwe
had. Equally, it allowed us to
decide on whether we wold
include one mainimageof focusor
several secondary images.
Having produced my entire foundation
musicmagazine cover,contentspage and
feature article with this software- I was
very confident in revisiting the
programme and using it to produce a
similar product this year-round.
Adobe Photoshop
Contrast Settings To create our filmposter,we used
Adobe Photoshop which allowed
us to execute our idea of
manipulatinglow-keylighttodraw
stark contrasts between
colour/tones. This was especially
beneficial formyteammatesandI,

brightness, exposure and contrast
of the image- we couldexecute an

year. Thus,I was equallyjustas confident
in using this programme as I was with
InDesign.

programme, we used the contrast
settings to darken the features on
the subject’s face, as well as

protagonist’s lips.
