This document discusses vitamins, including their classification, names, sources, functions, and diseases caused by deficiencies. Vitamins are classified as either fat-soluble or water-soluble. Fat-soluble vitamins include A, D, E and K and are stored in liver and fat tissues, while water-soluble vitamins like the B vitamins and C need to be regularly replenished through diet. The document lists the chemical names and sources of each vitamin and their functions, and also mentions diseases that can result from deficiencies in vitamins A, B1, C, D, E and K.
3. C L A S S I F I C AT I O N O F V I TA M I N S
On the basis of solubility in water or fat they can be
classified in two groups
(1)Fat soluble vitamins->These are those vitamins which
are soluble in oil and fat.Exm-vitamins A,D,E and K. They
are stored in liver and adipose (fat storing) tissues.
(2)Water soluble vitamins->B-groupvitamins and vitamins
C are soluble in water . The water soluble vitamins should
be taken regularly in diet because they are readily
excreted in urine and stired in the body(excepting B12).
