3. What is it?
A Resource Assignment Matrix (RAM) shows the project
resources assigned to each work package. It is used to
illustrate the connections between work packages, or
activities, and project team members.

Example of an Assignment Matrix is a RACI (responsible, accountable,
consult, and inform) chart. A RACI chart is a useful tool to use to ensure clear
assignment of roles and responsibilities when the team consists of internal
and external resources.

5. An Assignment Matrix can be developed at various
levels of a Work Breakdown Structure:
• A high-level matrix can define the responsibilities of
a project team, group, or unit.
• Lower-level matrix are used within the group to
designate roles, responsibilities, and levels of
authority.
Provides clarity: there is no confusion about who is
ultimately in charge or has authority for the work.
