Assemblies in the VbE Membership Resource Pack are free for member
schools to use. We respectfully ask that you don’t share this material.
Please feel free to adapt this assembly to the context of your
school. There are notes at the bottom of many slides.
Delete slides which are less relevant and add images etc of your
setting. Some slides are more suited to EY/KS1/KS2/KS3/KS4.
Assemblies are designed so that much of the material can be explored in
classes and lessons for the month after the initial assembly. Eg, films,
songs, philosophical questions, scenarios etc.

But the good news is that YOU can change your
attitude and outlook!
LOOK FOR the positives that could happen.
You can LEARN from any situation!
What values do you see in

What changes in attitudes?
Think for yourself!
What would you like to happen.
How would you like to feel?
It’s really easy to be dragged down
by negative people around you.
Be the one who shines – and wins!
Visualisation to achieve the best outcome..
Sit comfortably, close your eyes and think of a time you did
something really well …
How did you feel at the time - what did you think, see and
hear? Who were you with and how did they react?
Now think about something you find challenging,
perhaps feeling successful in a test.
Or perhaps getting along with people at playtimes.
Imagine it going really well and play a movie of this in your
mind. In the test you would know all the answers and write
them down, smiling - celebrating your best score ever.
In the playground, you would be laughing and playing games,
surrounded with people who wanted to be your friend.
When it comes to tricky situations,
you can replay the images
which may help you achieve the best outcome.
Reading news
which celebrates
positivity can be
very uplifting and
inspiring.
Perhaps your class or your
school could create your own
‘Positivity News’
An activity to try…
Start to create ‘positive bunting’ to
decorate your class.
Add flags as you think of and carry
out positive acts.
An activity to try…
What stars are you shooting for?
What are your goals?
What ambitions do you have?
How can you stay positive when
things get tough?
Sometimes it’s really hard to be positive.
You may be tired, busy, poorly, unhappy,
worried or even frightened.
It’s at these times when you can turn
things around if you adopt a positive
attitude – but it’s a hard thing to do
and you might need to ask
for support or help from others.
And that’s fine.
BE BRAVE and ask…
We all need a bit of help
sometimes.

are feeling very positive,
very negative,
or somewhere in between.

Free Member School Assemblies on Positivity

  • 1. Assemblies in the VbE Membership Resource Pack are free for member schools to use. We respectfully ask that you don’t share this material. Please feel free to adapt this assembly to the context of your school. There are notes at the bottom of many slides. Delete slides which are less relevant and add images etc of your setting. Some slides are more suited to EY/KS1/KS2/KS3/KS4. Assemblies are designed so that much of the material can be explored in classes and lessons for the month after the initial assembly. Eg, films, songs, philosophical questions, scenarios etc. The images have all been purchased, or are copyright free or are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0 License. If you have any feedback or suggestions for VbE, please get in touch: info@valuesbasededucation.com If you like an assembly written which isn’t in the pack yet, please let us know and we will write if for you (please give at least 30 days notice).   • 11. Positivity This month we will be exploring the value of …
  • 12. Which values can we connect with POSITIVITY?
  • 13.
  • 14. ‘Looking on the bright side’ Expecting something good to happen Focussing on how you can achieve a good outcome
  • 15.
  • 16. You have a choice… to see the positive side of things and take action for a good outcome… or not to expect or hope for a good outcome. But the good news is that YOU can change your attitude and outlook! LOOK FOR the positives that could happen. You can LEARN from any situation!
  • 17. What values do you see in this short film? What changes in attitudes?
  • 18. Think for yourself! What would you like to happen. How would you like to feel? It’s really easy to be dragged down by negative people around you. Be the one who shines – and wins!
  • 19. Visualisation to achieve the best outcome.. Sit comfortably, close your eyes and think of a time you did something really well … How did you feel at the time - what did you think, see and hear? Who were you with and how did they react? Now think about something you find challenging, perhaps feeling successful in a test. Or perhaps getting along with people at playtimes. Imagine it going really well and play a movie of this in your mind. In the test you would know all the answers and write them down, smiling - celebrating your best score ever. In the playground, you would be laughing and playing games, surrounded with people who wanted to be your friend. When it comes to tricky situations, you can replay the images which may help you achieve the best outcome.
  • 20. Reading news which celebrates positivity can be very uplifting and inspiring.
  • 21. Perhaps your class or your school could create your own ‘Positivity News’
  • 22. An activity to try… Start to create ‘positive bunting’ to decorate your class. Add flags as you think of and carry out positive acts.
  • 23. An activity to try… What stars are you shooting for? What are your goals? What ambitions do you have? How can you stay positive when things get tough?
  • 24. Sometimes it’s really hard to be positive. You may be tired, busy, poorly, unhappy, worried or even frightened. It’s at these times when you can turn things around if you adopt a positive attitude – but it’s a hard thing to do and you might need to ask for support or help from others. And that’s fine. BE BRAVE and ask… We all need a bit of help sometimes.
  • 25. The POSITIVITY Line Try to be aware of times when you are feeling very positive, very negative, or somewhere in between. 1 105

  • 30. Here in our school Let us be peaceful at all times. Let our rooms be full of happiness and respect for each other. Let love be in our hearts With kindness and compassion for all. Let us remember In learning together, We grow together And succeed together. A prayer for all of us
  • 31. Over the next month, reflect at the end of the day and think about when you chose to be positive…
  • 32. Over the next month, see if you can make better things happen by choosing to be positive rather than negative…
  • 33. Be aware of the negative influences around you. Are you allowing these to affect you? If you are – have courage!
  • 34. Why not make it your goal to shine with positivity – even when the going gets tough! Work for the BEST outcome!
  • 35. Nothing lasts forever, not even your problems. Stay POSITIVE!
