Keeping an open mind in.
By Daryl Frazier
What is keeping an open mind?
• Having the ability to learn new
experiences, being receptive of
others ideas, beliefs and
opinions.
• In many cases keeping an open
mind can open the eyes of many
different situations.
PLEASE CLICK PLAY ON ALL
VIDEOS FOR IT TO START IT
WON’T START AUTOMATICALLY!
Why should I keep an open mind?
• While you keep an open mind
you tend to pick up others life
experiences you can learn and
develop what skills you
already know to help you out
on the long run.
What is being close mined?
• In many cases most people are
closed minded when it comes
to new life experiences, ideas,
etc. Being closed minded
comes in many shapes and
forms but when it comes down
to it, its not being receptive of
ones ideas beliefs etc.
Can being closed minded be bad?
• Yes and no, being closed
minded can limit you to your
own personal improvement for
the future such as promotions,
other employment types and
leanring multiple ways to
accomplish a needed task.
How do you come across to the listener?
• Many times when presenting a
case, statement of opinion,
the presenter may come
across, aggressive or rude even
when presenting something
they value to the upmost
importance. Use the golden
rule in this case.
Connect to the listener.
• When presenting your case to
the listener try to connect
with that person or audience
be sure to come off with a
positive and supportive
manner but do not over do it.
Addressing Facts.
• Facts deny undeniable truth to
any topic. When addressing
facts use caution, depending
on the topic it can be very
touch to some people so you
have to be sensitive to the
listener or audience feelings.
Get the audience / listener involved.
• When trying to present your
case, keep the communication
both ways if someone has a
question gladly answer the
question with respect but if
they have an opinion be
respectful toward it so you can
get positive feedback. Being
understanding and polite can
go a long way when being open
minded.
Listen to the listener / Audience
• You will not have the floor all the
time, even if you are talking to just
one person hear what he or she has
to say about whatever topic you are
discussion there may be some key
points in what that person says that
makes sense.
• It is okay to debate things but never
take or blow things out of proportion
because you do not like or agree
with it. If taking the time to sit and
think about whatever it is you don’t
like make you can learn more about
it by doing research. Never judge a
book by its cover until it is read.
Listener to presenter
• If you are listening to someone
talk about a topic, always let that
person finish. It shows respect
towards that person and you can
get all the full details of the
debate or conversation.
• Showing eye contact helps as
well, any form of
acknowledgement helps. If you
are doing a class take notes to
use as a reference so when you go
back and something is
contradicting use your notes as a
reference.
Ask questions.
• Part of keeping an open mind
about things is asking questions,
someone can tell you something
that my intrigue and you may
want to know more so you start
asking questions.
• In order to build the house you
have to start the foundation
which is asking questions to learn
more about a topic you must do
that and research nothing can get
achieved with out it.
Don’t argue.
• Having a casual debate or
discussion is okay but at no point
should no one be rude toward the
listener or presenter because he
or she does not agree with their
ideas. Always treat people with
respect and dignity if you actually
listen in more toward the
conversation or topic you may
find more in common that what
you believe.
• If two parties are arguing the true
facts and details will not get
reviled.
How to deal with arguments.
• You may not like what someone has to say
all the time. Part of keeping an open mind
to conversations or new life experience if
not getting upset about how it is presented
or with how to go about it. Find ways to
make whatever is taught or said to you be
taken in a positive motion.
• If you do not understand let the person
know have the person say or teach it again
to you so that it is done properly, if you
can’t seem to grasp it be respectful and say
you can’t seem to understand it.
• The golden rule here is key and arguments
are never a good thing to deal with always
avoid them at all costs.
• If needed use proper techniques to calm
down if you feel yourself getting upset.
How not to offend people.
• Be sensitive to the topic
• Be clear
• Don’t be rude
• Show respect towards others
ideas
• Listen.
Why is it hard for some people to be open
minded?
Many people were raised
differently so not everyone is going
to do like what you do. To be open
minded about something new is
part of a life learning experience
that many people deal with
everyday.
Some people may not agree or do
things like others also because their
way works better there are many
other reasons.
Learn to improve.
• You want to become better.
• Learn to better yourself.
• Learn to teach others.
• Learning not to judge without
fully knowing or understanding
the topic.
• Learn the other side of the
story from their point of view.
Common ground
• If no one cant come to terms
on agreement find a common
ground with no violence or
arguing.
• Talk it over respect others
opinions and find a equal and
fair solution to whatever the
topic is.
Education is key
• “Never knock it until you try it.”
Always educate yourself before
judging what you feel will not
work for you. Learning new things
helps us evolve as humans and it
effects how we act towards one
another each day the more we
know the better off we are in
most cases.
• So learn from your own personal
experience on how well
something works for you.
Two sides of the coin.
• In conclusion, there is always room to learn
something new, be careful on how you
address your topic be respectful and
mindful.
• Always know what you are talking about. If
you are the one listening take notes ask
questions try it out for yourself to see if it
can better improve your life.
• Being closed minded can come off as being
rude so try not to do that.
• Always be respectful to someone if they do
not agree with you on something and find a
common ground to help improve your skill
for you or the group.
