21st Century Teachers
Teachers play a key role in training students to
develop the skills for the 21st century. The teacher
is a guide who supports student development from
early childhood and through the learning process
for children, youth and adults (UNESCO 21)

The New Normal in basic education
21
The Department of Education
(DepEd) is addressing the
challenges in the basic
education for the school year
2020-2021 through its Basic
Education Learning Continuity
Plan (BE-LCP) under DepEd
Order No. 012, s. 2020.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Learning Delivery Modalities
1. Face-to-face. This refers to a modality where the
students and the teacher are both physically present in
the classroom, and there are opportunities for active
engagement, immediate feedback, and socio-emotional
development of learners.
2. Distance learning. This refers to a modality where
learning takes place between the teacher and the
learners who are geographically remote from each other
during instruction. This modality has three types,
namely: Modular Distance Learning, Online Distance
Learning, and Television/Radio-Based Instruction.
22
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Learning delivery modalities
3. Blended Learning. This refers to a learning delivery that
combines face-to-face with any, or a mix of, Modular
Distance Learning, Online Distance Learning, and
Television/Radio-Based Instruction.
4. Homeschooling. This modality aims to provide learners
with quality basic education that is facilitated by qualified
parents, guardians, or tutors who have undergone relevant
training in a home-based environment. However, this
modality will be the subject of a later DepEd issuance since
there remain several issues in its implementation, including
the supervision of licensed teachers and alignments with
the standard curriculum.
23
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
The Learning Continuity Plan of the DepEd is
Not a one size fits all policy. The modality to be
used will be responsive to the context and
available resources of the schools and the
learners.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
12 Types of Blended Learning
28
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Station Rotation Blended Learning
• Is a model that includes students rotating
through stations on a fixed schedule with
one as an online learning stations.
29
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Remote Blended Learning
(also referred to as Enrich Virtual)
• Completion of work with intermittent meeting with the
teacher or only as needed
• Different from flipped classroom
• A mix of Self-Directed, Flex Blended Learning, Flipped
Classroom
• Student complete coursework remotely and
independently
30
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Flex Blended Learning
• It’s the backbone is online learning even if offline
activities are directed to students at times
• Individually customized, fluid schedule among learning
modalities
• Usually learning takes place on the brick-and-mortar
campus
• Homework or assignments are done at home
• Face-to-face support happens when needed like small-
group instruction, group projects as well as individual
tutoring.
• Versatile in terms of addressing the needs of both formal
and informal schooling.
31
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Flipped Classroom
• The content is introduced at home through
online materials, videos, or printed texts and
working on the activities with a teacher and
classmates as support
• Learning in new contexts (learning at home;
studying in school)
32
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Individual Rotation Blended Learning
• This permits the learners to rotate on the
stations using the individual schedules set by a
software algorithm or a teacher
• The activities rotates on a scheduled playlist.
• Personalization of students learning determined
by individual schedules
33
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Project – Based Blended Learning
• The student online learning for self-directed
learning as well as for face-to-face instruction
• Goal is to come up with projects in forms of
assignments, products, and other activities
• Online learning to support project-based
learning
34
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Self-Directed Blended Learning
• Combination of online and face-to-face learning leading
to their personalized inquiry, meet formal learning goals,
and connect with mentors digitally and physically
• The role of the teachers and online learning change
• No formal online course to finish
• The challenge is the ability to judge the learning
experience without de-authenticating it
• Spark to sustain learning
35
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Inside-Out Blended Learning
• Beyond the physical classroom for both physical
and digital spaces
• Less critical
• Outward approach (Project-based blended
learning)
• Student movement between digital and physical
spaces
36
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Outside – In Blended Learning
• Begin in the non-academic place and finish
inside the classroom
• Student movement between spaces (digital and
physical)
• Potential authenticity of the outputs
• Classroom as closed-circuit avenue
37
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Supplemental Blended Learning
• Work online or learn face-to-face to
supplement their learning
• Supplementing activities
• Support
38
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Mastery-Based Blended Learning
• learning rotates between online and face-to-face
activities based on the completion of the
objectives
• assessment is mastery – based
• either powerful or complicated

Distance Learning
• combination of synchronous and asynchronous
learning methods
• synchronous learning – done at the same time
(Hangouts, Meet, Zoom, Team, Facebook
rooms)
• asynchronous learning – done outside the class
time (Canvas, Khan academy, Quizlet,
Wizer.me, Google Classroom)
41
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Individualized learning
Method of learning that is dependent on the
interest and ability of the learners
1. Purpose
2. Realistic goals
3. Review of the goals
4. Student monitoring of purpose (modular)
5. Involvement of parents and teachers

Workshop
• Form a group according to subject taught. Assign
somebody as the “teacher” while the rest of the
members will play the role of the “learners”
• The Teacher will then create a CLASS (using his/her
own DepEd Account) following the procedures
discussed about the google classroom. The Teacher
shall name the CLASS after the subject area.
• Each group shall simulate a situation in which a
teacher maximizes the usage of the applications
available in the google classroom like posting
announcements, giving assignments, quizzes,
attaching files (audio/video), google forms and even a
conduct of online/virtual conference via Meet.
• Present the output.

  1. As the country continues to confront different issues brought about by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the Department of Education (DepEd) is addressing the challenges in the basic education for the school year 2020-2021 through its Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) under DepEd Order No. 012, s. 2020.
  2. (face-to-face) Notably, this modality is feasible only in very low risk areas with no history of infection, easily monitored external contacts, and with teachers and learners living in the vicinity of the school.
