2. Excellence in Practice Questions (shortened):
1. Needs Identification. Describe the problem or need for which this practice is designed.
How was this identified? How was it determined that this practice is an appropriate response?
Include alternatives that were considered and not chosen.
2. Design Approach. Describe how the design decision was reached. How does this practice take into
account the best interests of the organization, the employees targeted, and other groups inside and
outside that are affected by the organization?
3. Alignment. How does this practice address the performance problem/need? How does this practice
align with organizational goals? How does it integrate other learning and development practices?
Partnerships. Identify other groups in or outside this organization with whom you collaborated to
develop and implement this practice. Why was this collaboration useful?
4. Evaluation Strategy. How is this practice evaluated, and how often? Describe the elements of the
evaluation strategy. What evidence & metrics do you use? If financial costs are calculated, how?
5. Results. What business impact was achieved through this practice? Please describe short- and long-term
business impact and the evidence. How do you know the impact came from the practice, not external factors?
6. Results--Behaviors. What specific participant behaviors resulted from this practice and how do these
contribute to the goals of the practice and the organization’s goals? Show metrics and concrete examples.
7. Organizational Learning. What specific lessons have been learned from designing and implementing
this practice? How might this practice be transferred and replicated internally and externally?
