Pod 21 – Virtualization of consoles’ games

The most recent list of electronic products quot;greenquot;, prepared by Greenpeace,
keeps the manufacturers of video game consoles from Nintendo and Microsoft in
the worst classification of the ranking of the 18 largest companies in the electronics
world. The main responsible for this poor rating are the lack of an aggressive policy
in the recycling of electronic products, excessive consumption of energy products
and lack of plans to reduce emissions of polluting gases. The Microsoft,
manufacturer of console Xbox 360, appears in penultimate place on the list, just
ahead of Nintendo bitter that the last position with regard environmental concept. In
the 17 th position with a note miserable of 2.2 points on 10 possible, the american
Microsoft suffers mainly on the use of toxic substances in their products, besides
causing carbon dioxide emissions during production. To worsen the situation there
is no indication to reduce the gases causing the so-called greenhouse effect. The
company‘ Bill Gates only eliminate the problem here 2 years, who knows, when its
current line of products is all in the hands of consumers. In terms of junk mail, the
Japanese Nintendo, which makes the Wii console, received scores zero in all the
criteria for environmental assessment. Overall, Nintendo, one of which sells more
console in the world, remains in last place with 0.8 points to note on 10 possible.
However, the Nintendo pledged to 2% cut in emissions of CO2 and other gases
causing the greenhouse effect. However, the company admits that the growth in
sales has increased to 6% emissions of toxic gases into. While the Japanese
Sony, responsible for the making of the PlayStation, appear better positioned as

videogames industry in the ranking of the list may require it to rethink the business
world of electronic games. One of the exits is precisely to promote the so-called
virtualization platforms of the games. Among other reasons is the exponential
growth of massive games played online by million of people at once. If the list of
Greenpeace acts as incentive for companies to consider games ahead of the
problem of junk mail, for us the Blog NewsGames, the list of dirty Greenpeace sets
itself as an excellent opportunity to go in search of new forms of play but, above all,
in search of new media environmentally healthy. After all, most consumers of
games are platforms for children and adolescents.

A mais recente lista de produtos eletrônicos “verdes”, elaborada pelo Greenpeace,
mantém os fabricantes de consoles de videogame Nintendo e Microsoft na pior
classificação do ranking das 18 maiores empresas de produtos eletrônicos do
mundo. Os principais responsáveis por essa má classificação são a falta de uma
política agressiva na reciclagem de produtos eletrônicos, consumo excessivo de
energia dos produtos e inexistência de planos para reduzir a emissão de gases
poluentes. A Microsoft, fabricante do console Xbox 360, aparece em penúltimo
lugar na lista, à frente apenas da Nintendo que amarga a última posição no que
tange conceito ambiental. Na 17ª posição com uma nota pífia de 2,2 pontos, em
10 possíveis, a americana Microsoft peca principalmente quanto ao uso de
substâncias tóxicas em seus produtos, além de causar emissões de dióxido de
carbono durante o processo de produção. Para piorar a situação não há qualquer
menção em reduzir os gases causadores do chamado efeito estufa. A empresa de
Bill Gates só eliminará o problema daqui 2 anos, quem sabe, quando a sua linha
atual de produtos estiver toda nas mãos dos consumidores. Em termos de lixo
eletrônico, a japonesa Nintendo, que fabrica o console Wii, obteve pontuação zero
em todos os critérios de avaliação ambiental. No geral, a Nintendo, uma das que
mais vende console no mundo, permanece em último lugar com a nota 0,8 pontos,
em 10 possíveis. Contudo, a Nintendo comprometeu-se a cortar em 2% as
emissões de CO2 e outros gases causadores do efeito estufa. No entanto, a
empresa admite que o crescimento das vendas a fez aumentar em 6% as
emissões de gases tóxicos. Embora a japonesa Sony, responsável pela fabricação
do PlayStation, apareça     mais   bem    posicionada que as     rivais, a pífia

colocação de duas das maiores fabricantes de suportes de games do mundo
revela que os consoles de jogos eletrônicos estão com os dias contados. Existe
uma razão plausível para isso? Sim, meus caros! Pelo simples fato de
serem ambientalmente incorretos. Nesse sentido, a ONG americana de proteção
ao meio-ambiente antevê como numa bola de cristal o fim da era dos consoles de
videogames como conhecemos hoje. A melancólica posição da indústria de
videogames no ranking da lista pode obrigá-la a repensar o negócio mundial dos
jogos eletrônicos. Uma das saídas é justamente promover a chamada
virtualização das   plataformas   de games.   Entre outros    motivos   está o
crescimento exponencial dos games massivos jogados on-line por milhões de
pessoas ao mesmo tempo. Se a lista do Greenpeace funciona como estímulo para
que as empresas de games encararem de frente o problema do lixo eletrônico,
para nós do Blog do NewsGames, a lista suja do Greenpeace configura-se como
uma excelente oportunidade para irmos em busca de novas formas de jogar mas,
acima de tudo, em busca de novos suportes ambientalmente saudáveis. Afinal, a
maioria dos consumidores de plataformas de games são crianças e adolescentes.

Pod 21 – Virtualization of consoles’ games _______________________________________________________ by Geraldo Seabra* The most recent list of electronic products quot;greenquot;, prepared by Greenpeace, keeps the manufacturers of video game consoles from Nintendo and Microsoft in the worst classification of the ranking of the 18 largest companies in the electronics world. The main responsible for this poor rating are the lack of an aggressive policy in the recycling of electronic products, excessive consumption of energy products and lack of plans to reduce emissions of polluting gases. The Microsoft, manufacturer of console Xbox 360, appears in penultimate place on the list, just ahead of Nintendo bitter that the last position with regard environmental concept. Os principais responsáveis por essa má classificação são a falta de uma política agressiva na reciclagem de produtos eletrônicos, consumo excessivo de energia dos produtos e inexistência de planos para reduzir a emissão de gases poluentes. A Microsoft, fabricante do console Xbox 360, aparece em penúltimo lugar na lista, à frente apenas da Nintendo que amarga a última posição no que tange conceito ambiental. Na 17ª posição com uma nota pífia de 2,2 pontos, em 10 possíveis, a americana Microsoft peca principalmente quanto ao uso de substâncias tóxicas em seus produtos, além de causar emissões de dióxido de carbono durante o processo de produção. Para piorar a situação não há qualquer menção em reduzir os gases causadores do chamado efeito estufa. A empresa de Bill Gates só eliminará o problema daqui 2 anos, quem sabe, quando a sua linha atual de produtos estiver toda nas mãos dos consumidores. Em termos de lixo eletrônico, a japonesa Nintendo, que fabrica o console Wii, obteve pontuação zero em todos os critérios de avaliação ambiental. Existe uma razão plausível para isso? Sim, meus caros! Pelo simples fato de serem ambientalmente incorretos. Nesse sentido, a ONG americana de proteção ao meio-ambiente antevê como numa bola de cristal o fim da era dos consoles de videogames como conhecemos hoje. A melancólica posição da indústria de videogames no ranking da lista pode obrigá-la a repensar o negócio mundial dos jogos eletrônicos. Uma das saídas é justamente promover a chamada virtualização das plataformas de games. Entre outros motivos está o crescimento exponencial dos games massivos jogados on-line por milhões de pessoas ao mesmo tempo.
