A NEW LEASE ON LEARNING AT
          ROSE HOLLOW !!


  Because good reading skills are needed for many
academic activities, the Rose Hollow Lower School is
committed to supporting our students’ efforts to become
fluent readers, to increase their expressive vocabulary, as
well as ones to understand, think critically about and
enjoy what they are reading!
NEW TECHNOLOGY. . . .

     WE HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS , IN
ADDITION TO OUR DATABASES AND PRINT
MATERIALS, WITH THE USE OF NEW READING
AND CONTENT MATERIALS, IN NON-PRINT
FORMAT, AVAILABLE ON E-READERS AND E-
TABLETS. . .
AND. . .
         The RHLS library would like to help you to:
• familiarize yourselves with the new software and how
  the different programs can be used, in a multitude of
  ways, on our school hardware/devices—which are
  available go check out and take home on weekends, *
• and re-familiarize yourselves with our Play Away and
  MP3-player read-along materials.
• Also, we can help you to upload materials onto your
  own child-friendly mobile devices, ie., laptops,readers ,
  tablets, touch pads and others.

  *This will be for weekends , only, until we build up our classroom-sized collections.
SO. . .
       Besides wanting to support our students with
their continued performance on standardized
testing, we want to help you and your child
acquire access to non-print materials.



 To accomplish this, we will be open every
Wednesday evening, until 8:00 p.m.!
.Later, we would also like to introduce
SOL content- related family activities,
initiated by the library, for fun and
prizes!* We have some amazing content
apps that include geographic awareness.

Additionally, Tumblebooks are iinteractive books that can be read with extra
features to assist or entertain during the reading process. They can be accessed
from a leased database on the library web site, or accessed for free at the Library
of Virginia,!

Many public libraries have e-books for children and the whole family
that can be “checked out” or accessed for two weeks
Barnes and Noble, Google Books, Amazon and Apple Corporation ,
as well as independent publishing companies distribute ebooks that
can be viewed , or read , on various e-reading devices.
We welcome any and all suggestions for additions to our
permanent electronic and print collections.
Next, we have “apps” which is short for "applications," which are . . . [functional]
on most web-browsing devices and are nothing more than a mini-web
[/database] program designed to assist users in some way or another”) (Emily
McDaniel, 2012) They come in subjects from A-Z, but the educational apps are
what we focus on at school.

Please come as regularly as you would like to:
• Help us with your child’s skill development, especially reading.
• Become adept at using our library hardware, from keyboards for
  word processing, using an Ipod for a read-along with a great piece
  of literature or entertainment to finding out how a “light touch” on a
  e-tablet screen will open up a world of possibilities.
ACCEPTABLE USE
• Your student (and you,) will be able to check out e-readers
  and tablets on weekends. (Please talk to the librarians
  about borrowing for the summer.)
• The Clay County Acceptable Use Policy for any
  electronic device containing school owned or leased
  materials, on or off school grounds, also applies to the new
  devices.
• I f any device is lost , stolen or broken, the librarians will
  make arrangements for the device to be collaboratively
  compensated for.

  • 2. A NEW LEASE ON LEARNING AT ROSE HOLLOW !! Because good reading skills are needed for many academic activities, the Rose Hollow Lower School is committed to supporting our students’ efforts to become fluent readers, to increase their expressive vocabulary, as well as ones to understand, think critically about and enjoy what they are reading!
  • 3. NEW TECHNOLOGY. . . . WE HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS , IN ADDITION TO OUR DATABASES AND PRINT MATERIALS, WITH THE USE OF NEW READING AND CONTENT MATERIALS, IN NON-PRINT FORMAT, AVAILABLE ON E-READERS AND E- TABLETS. . .
  • 4. AND. . . The RHLS library would like to help you to: • familiarize yourselves with the new software and how the different programs can be used, in a multitude of ways, on our school hardware/devices—which are available go check out and take home on weekends, * • and re-familiarize yourselves with our Play Away and MP3-player read-along materials. • Also, we can help you to upload materials onto your own child-friendly mobile devices, ie., laptops,readers , tablets, touch pads and others. *This will be for weekends , only, until we build up our classroom-sized collections.
  • 5. SO. . . Besides wanting to support our students with their continued performance on standardized testing, we want to help you and your child acquire access to non-print materials. To accomplish this, we will be open every Wednesday evening, until 8:00 p.m.!
  • 6. .Later, we would also like to introduce SOL content- related family activities, initiated by the library, for fun and prizes!* We have some amazing content apps that include geographic awareness. *(Please “stay tuned” for more information. Think digital compass or even GPS navigation on a new mobile digital device!)

  • 11. Barnes and Noble, Google Books, Amazon and Apple Corporation , as well as independent publishing companies distribute ebooks that can be viewed , or read , on various e-reading devices.
  • 12. We welcome any and all suggestions for additions to our permanent electronic and print collections.
  • 13. Next, we have “apps” which is short for "applications," which are . . . [functional] on most web-browsing devices and are nothing more than a mini-web [/database] program designed to assist users in some way or another”) (Emily McDaniel, 2012) They come in subjects from A-Z, but the educational apps are what we focus on at school.

Please come as regularly as you would like to: • Help us with your child’s skill development, especially reading. • Become adept at using our library hardware, from keyboards for word processing, using an Ipod for a read-along with a great piece of literature or entertainment to finding out how a “light touch” on a e-tablet screen will open up a world of possibilities.
  • 17. ACCEPTABLE USE • Your student (and you,) will be able to check out e-readers and tablets on weekends. (Please talk to the librarians about borrowing for the summer.) • The Clay County Acceptable Use Policy for any electronic device containing school owned or leased materials, on or off school grounds, also applies to the new devices. • I f any device is lost , stolen or broken, the librarians will make arrangements for the device to be collaboratively compensated for.
