About CED
History
1969:Recognizing that a quantitative increase in the number of entrepreneurs and a qualitative
improvement in entrepreneurship could considerably accelerate the industrial and there by economic
development, the Industrial Development Corporations first thought of developing small entrepreneurs
in a systemic manner long back in 1969.
1970:In the year 1970 a small cell was created within GIIC to impart the entrepreneurship training.
The pioneering step-it was the first attempt of its kind in the whole of country and this experiment
turned out to be a phenomenal success. Later on, over a period of nine years, 80 Entrepreneurship
Development Programmes (EDPs) were conducted and over 50% after completing the training
successfully set up their own industrial ventures.
1979:Enthused by the above success in bringing about a perceptible change in public perceptions, the
Gujarat Corporations together with the State Government set up in May, 1979, an independent body-

About CIIE
IIM Ahmedabad's Centre for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) is one of India's leading centres
catalyzing the entrepreneurship ecosystem in the country through its various interventions and initiatives. CIIE was
set-up by IIM Ahmedabad in association with the Government of India and the Gujarat Government to provide
seeding and incubation support with a focus on technology and mass impact areas. Since 2007, CIIE has accelerated
over 500 startups across various sectors. CIIE's journey so far has had enormous contributions from IIMA alumni
who have come forward and supported the cause in multiple ways.
With the aim of having CIIE as the top name associated with entrepreneurship, we continuously strive to deliver
disproportionate impact to entrepreneurship in India by backing purpose-driven entrepreneurs harnessing the
power of technology to solve some of India's toughest problems using business models that are specific to India.
We know that it takes more than just early stage risk-capital to get a company off the ground - we enable most of
what may be required by entrepreneurs through seed-funding, incubation, mentoring, training, knowledge
dissemination and best practice research. Through all these interventions, CIIE helps entrepreneurs turn ideas into
viable businesses. In partnership with our mentors, corporates, development agencies, IIMA community and
investors, CIIE cultivates a rare breed of entrepreneurs that have an unmatched ability to bring about disruptive
change in India.

Bharat Inclusion Initiative gives technology purpose. Technological progress, in its current form, is not equitably
distributed. Technology could impact a lot of hard problems that billions of underserved people face everyday, but
it finds itself serving the needs of the few instead.
Bharat Inclusion Initiative will provide ambitious entrepreneurs the domain knowledge, training, financial support,
mentorship & market access they need to bring inclusive, for-profit businesses to life. We support businesses
serving the Indian mass market through programs, fellowships & funding where possible.
Startup Oasis is a Jaipur based technology and business incubation centre that is developing an active ecosystem
in Rajasthan to inspire, support and mentor students, aspiring entrepreneurs and start-ups to solve persistent
problems, develop breakthrough innovations and create world-class innovations driven enterprises. Startup Oasis
is the joint initiative of RIICO, Rajasthan’s premier industrial promotion organization, and Centre for
Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE)
Incubators
The IIMAvericks program provides mentoring & financial support to graduating students to take the road less
travelled and start-up. The program helps the entrepreneur sustain during the initial period of the venture, and
help them focus more on the business. The most critical period for any entrepreneur is the first two years of
business. It is during this time that most businesses fail due to operational and budgetary constraints. The
IIMAvericks program provides prototyping grants, stipends, acceleration support and training workshops to the
start-ups. The program has also been extended to recent alumni in the form of an Entrepreneurship in Residence
grant.
The program is offered to graduating IIMA students & recent alumni who are starting up or already have a
functional start-up anywhere in India. CIIE follows a virtual incubation model & it is not necessary for the start-up
to be stationed in Ahmedabad. Over the last 5 years, CIIE has supported around 60 alums with a fellowship and
another 35 students with an idea validation summer internship.

About CIIE IIM Ahmedabad's Centre for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) is one of India's leading centres catalyzing the entrepreneurship ecosystem in the country through its various interventions and initiatives. CIIE was set-up by IIM Ahmedabad in association with the Government of India and the Gujarat Government to provide seeding and incubation support with a focus on technology and mass impact areas.
